Manchester United 2007-2008 Season Thread

After a very rough start (2 draws and 1 win), United has three straight 1-0 wins over Spurs, Sunderland and Everton.

United has played like **** thus far but level with Chelsea and Liverpool, although Liverpool has a game in hand, is a position I will take considering the absences of Ronaldo and Rooney and Saha.

All to play for. Incredible that Chelsea have conceeded 6 in 6 and United have only scored 4 in 6.

Derby looks to challenge for worst PL team ever.

United is going to be fine. Saha, Rooney, and Ronaldo back now, it'll only be a matter of time. Tevez, IMO, played great Saturday.

1-0 win at Sporting in the CL opener.

Ronaldo and VDS almost singlehandedly won this one for United.

Ugly performance but you can't overstate the value of a road win in the CL. Out of 16 games, United and Valencia were the only road teams to come away with all 3 points.

Big game on Sunday. 1-0 United?

You can never trust Chelsea but Drogba and Lampard are both supposedly out.

United really needs a win in this fixture.

I just read that Agger and Alonso are each out for 6 weeks with broken metatarsals. At least you have some depth in those positions though.

Honestly, does it really matter? The one competition you don't mind crashing out of in the first game, plus some of the youngsters got a run out.

I wish Worthington was still the sponsor for this "competition" so that the nickname would remain the "Worthless Cup".

IMO, some teams would prefer to lose than go far in this, unless they went far with their entire reserves squad.

I still haven't gotten over our loss at the same stage last year to Southend.

Our reserves aren't quality enough to get to the final of this competition like Arsenal's are. T/F our young guys would get maybe two more games in this competition before we would replace them with senior players for the semis and final. I prefer the rest to meaningless fixtures.

Pathetic performance by several players who are on their way out of the club but it is called the Careless Cup for a reason.

The CC is a pretty useless competition and in the later rounds can pile up the fixtures. I hope we either take a youth/reserves lineup the whole way or lose after a couple more games.

But it's nice to see fringe players and/or guys in the pipeline b/c you don't often get to see them get a game.

IHS - you should value the CC; might be Spurs only chance for silverware this year.

I like how Rafa uses the Carling Cup to bleed in unknown youngsters like Jamie Carragher and Fernando Torres.

Now those guys will be more prepared to compete in the league if some of the big guns go down.

Carrick only played b/c United went behind and Evans went out injured. He played a half hour.

O'Shite is a backup in every sense of the word. He hadn't played for us since September 1 when he played the last 5 minutes.

Nani is our third choice winger who needs games after not featuring in Portugal's international games or for United on the weekend. Before the Coventry match had played less than a game and a half since September 1.

It's not really comparable. Gerrard and his toe even got into the Liverpool game.

So the Prawn Sandwich Brigade finally wakes up. Enough goals today in the second half for 4 wins. Tevez looked great. Rooney and Ronaldo were really flowing. Hopefully this will continue, since The Glass Man will likely be out for awhile.

Midfield is a bit streched now with Hargreaves, Carrick, and O'Shea out. Anderson did well today as a creative influence.

Vidic wanted to stay on, but the United staff were wise to show caution. Simpson and Pique didn't have much to do, but every game gives them more confidence.

A great win today. I love the early kickoffs as now I can watch Gameday and get ready for the UT victory.

Great performance on Saturday.

The attack of Giggs, Tevez, Ronaldo and Rooney was in full form and full flight for the first time this season and Titus Bramble and Co. weren't up to it.

For me though, the most impressive aspect of the performance was the play of Anderson. He was winning balls all over the park and efficiently shfited the team from defense to all out attack. He played some excellent passes and was instrumental in the build up for several of the goals.

Simpson and Pique were also very solid and have futures in the side. Simpson gives us the attacking option at right back we miss with Neville's absence.

Hopefully a sign of things to come after the break.

Rooney's in possibly the best form of his career. He and Tevez are just a load to handle as they work very well together.

Impressive win over a scrappy Villa team without Ronaldo. At this point the Scum have to be odds-on favorite for the title.
