Mack Brown to UNC

You mean NCar didn’t offer the job to Charley Strong? He would have accepted the job in a heartbeat. Didn’t NCar know how much better Strong was than Mac?
A power five school should have known better.

I opine Mac will do great at NCar. I would love to see him bring in Kingsbury as his OC and Chizik as his DC.

In all seriousness, the Chizik chatter seems at least plausible but what basis is there beyond a reporter's speculation that Kingsbury would even be in the mix? There's no obvious history / connection between he and Mack and coach bro will almost certainly have his pick of opportunities including in the NFL.

So now we've doubled-down on hiding behind an emogi. You have a problem with my position be man enough to tell me why.
Mack is one of my favorite coaches but that’s nostalgia. He is a great recruiter and with good young coordinators he should be a force in the ACC. His age is the Elephant in the room. As long as he’s healthy, let the man coach. Time will tell. He won everywhere he coached!

Maybe it's not necessary to have a relationship/connection. Mack needs someone he can just hand the offense and defense to as he's a CEO. At least that's my recollection. If I were him I'd call Kliff up because they can hit the ground running TODAY.

My predictions for Mack at UNC:
1. Players will get cookies.
2. Clapping, and lots of it.
3. Many things that other teams can do will scare Mack to death.

My definition of success is higher than 1 conference championship in 11 years. Would you consider the same record for Herman a success?
no. to your original reply about UNC being ranked once in the last 21 years irrelevant, i don't consider UNC and Texas on the same level. i consider success relative to the school. UNC might have said to Mack...just get us back to regular Top 25 status for the next 4-6 years and we'll call it a day.

One thing that Mack will most certainly do is having UNC's BMDs eating out of his hand. That is one area where he is among the very best.

Mack's 67 and will be 68 when the season starts. He's inheriting a team that hasn't won more than it has lost since 2016....I sense disaster....56 wins away from 300, maybe that's the goal? BUT the main point I want to make that ALL of you are missing is.......what about Greg Davis as his OC? Kicked it in the behind while he was with Mack for all of those years! C'mon everybody who is with me on this? :-)

I’m happy for Mack and expect for him to do well. In fact, had he had an opportunity to return to the Texas program — a huge hypothetical — after a hiatus, I believe he would have returned a better coach, having had the time to recharge his batteries and reassess his approach.

His challenge at UNC will be restocking the cupboard. The recruiting opportunities there are not like Texas, and competing for the Florida kids won’t be easy. Additionally, ND, Penn State and other area programs will be formidable recruiting opponents.

But success in 2-3 years would not surprise me at all and he may be able to give Dabo a run for his money sooner than we think.

I had that thought as well. Bring in GD. Wouldn't surprise me a bit. It will be good to see someone running the east-west coast offense again.

I think this is a mistake on MBs part. You can't go home again is right, and it's usually because now you are a lot older than you were then. MB was coach at UNC 20 years ago. Maybe it will work since Florida State is on their *** this time around. IDK but I would like to see Tech own up to their mistake and hire Mike Leach back.

I totally agree! What’s puzzling is his motivation. He has a cushy well-paid gig at ESPN and a permanent seat at the UT “big boy” table. He’s still a rock star here. What’s the upside at UNC?...I just don’t see one. Seems UT would close the door to him now as a competitor. This would be sort of like David Lee Roth going back to Van Halen again....how did that work out last tIme?!? Well, maybe that’s a bad example!!:headbang:

If Mack doesn't bring Greg Davis on in some capacity, I feel their friendship could be broken forever.....I'll be flabbergasted.....it took an act of congress to get Mack to remove GD in the first place...

If Mack gets the job, UNC will improve but not overcome Clemson. I for one will pull for Carolina football as long as they are not playing Texas. Good luck Coach Brown. Thanks for what you did for Texas.:hookem:

And for all those content to poop my post with no explanation why: grow a pair.

Allow me to explain why I pooped on this. Because poop is funny. teehee

I love Mack but I have to wonder about how this will go for him.
For a guy whose strength was recruiting, recruiting had gone to shite his last few years. With a few exceptions of guys like Jordan Hicks, there were a lot of busts, never-was-s, no bigs, and there was just no discernable team identity to the athletes he was recruiting.
I think his recruiting strategy became to troll the lake in his boat, and take whatever fish happened to jump in his lap. They got an extra star or two out of being committed to Texas and Mack could go back to his "casita" and chill knowing he had another top 15 class. Have to wonder if he has the energy to really evaluate and recruit to an identity.

I am rooting for him to do well. I worry that, at his age, he may not have the stamina for it, so I hope he hires a great (young) staff.

And they will play their guts out. ;)

And give lots of credit to the other team. And then give credit to their own team. And then give credit to the fans, and the high school football coaches.

I do feel like we're all still adjusting to the poop. I kinda feel like we're not all sending the same message with it. Kinda like the monkey house.
