Was #2 on the field during Malik’s time at QB? Don’t recall hearing Craig call his number.
I would imagine they hook up often in practice. Against the 1’s no doubt.
Hmmmmnnnnnn

Worster,

Unfortunately Saturday will be the Mormons coming to town. They remain. as they have for 50+ years one of the dirtiest teams in D-1. If Ewers is questionable, do you run the risk of losing him the rest of the season or risk losing Malik, thereby wasting Arch's shirt?

let's not worry about Arch's shirt. we got good qbs coming in, in '24 and '25.

we all wish him him well, unfortunately, based on his passing in the UH game, looks like we may have to run the wildcat with Red.

You mean his 1 for 2 horrific performance? WTF are you people smoking? How can y'all (I'm lumping in everyone criticizing Malik) say he's going to fail next week based off two throws? The drama queen mentality on this board is crazy.

Arch can play in up to four games and keep his redshirt and hasn't played in any yet, so if he needs to be used the next two weeks in any kind of role in game there is no consequence for his redshirt.

I have no problem with starting Malik. I like his attitude. He has a strong arm and the receivers need to adjust to the velocity of his passes. BYU will load the box and make him pass, which will be a mistake as he will make the throws.

I am not at all confident about Murphy. I will be surprised if he has a good game this coming Saturday.
call me cynical.
If his objective is the set a new record on the velocity of a football, I'm sure he'll have success. If his objective is to complete passes, I'm not so sure either.

I don't base what I am saying on his two throws in the Houston game but on his whole history, or lack thereof, and other things.

I think the Sark offense of RPO and short passing fits Maliks style.
Run Brooks, Run Baxter, hitches and slants with a 15+ yard pass used only on 2nd and 3 or less.
Not 1st and 10!

And TAKE THE FG. Every time!
Get Quinn and others healthy by controlling the clock.

I'll be happy if Sark goes against his nature and installs some more RPO for Maalik. Sark doesn't usually like designed runs for his QBs, but with that big body Maalik poses a real problem for defenses if they think he could run at any time.

The announcers kept saying that Malik was banged up during practice last week and Arch took most of the snaps with the twos.
Sark didn't exactly give Malik a ringing endorsement during the post game press conference.
It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Arch start the BYU game.
That is if Quinn can't go.

What I see in Malik other than his high velocity throws is his confidence. He’s got it by the truckload and that is so very important as it carries over to his teammates. No doubt he’ll make mistakes but I’m a fan.

I have a good feeling Maalik will unleash the Krakan. No knock on Quinn, but Maalik operates the offense much quicker with confidence and everything seems to click in the running game. With our talent, we should scoring in the 60’s not the dang 30’s.
Our receivers need to expect the ball at them quickly however, he throws rockets.

Why give Arch most of the snaps with the 2’s and then, when needed, play Murphy?

He stayed out of the portal with Quin in front of him and Arch coming in behind him. The young man wants to be here. He deserves his shot so let's see some data before we rush to judgement. How many others in his shoes would have bailed?

With regard to Malik, there is absolutely no sample size upon which to make any reasonable assessment. So, to assume he will fail or that he is a liability, is premature.

Duke,
Reasonable statements, QB depth especially , like this are unbecoming of any Longhorn Fan and further comment using common sense should be considered for a week long banishment.

(Bud, I trust you understand this is not directed at you)

Ok, he's 4 for 8 this year.

I refuse to predict outcomes based on mop up duty. When he has an actual game plan designed for him and given a chance to get rolling he might just be fine. He has zero history to be judgemental.

Didn't Sark say after Oklahoma that he should have played Jontay more? Didn't see much of him yesterday.
