LSU wants game at Reliant and against AM or UT

We should either do a home and home, or a Houston-New Orleans trade off. If you don't this would help them with recruiting, you are out of your mind. There is a big difference between telling the parents of a Houston kid that doesn't have much money that they can drive to LSU for games versus we will play once a year in Houston and you just have to drive/take the bus across town. Look what happened to Arkansas when they left the SWC. Their ability to recruit in Texas plummeted. A&M is stupid to play them because it will directly eat into the east Texas recruits the ags depend on. Playing LSU also allows them have Houston recruits on their sideline during the games. It makes sense as a home and home or a Houston/New Orleans setting. Otherwise, it is just stupid. Not only the ags recruit Houston. I seem to recall a certain quarterback from there recently that was pretty good. I can't remember his name though.

One thing aggy and us can agree on...neither has much to benefit by scheduling LSU in Houston, while LSU can pick up huge recruiting benefits by such a game.

I'm as much in favor of us scheduling a BCS-type school once in OOC every year as the rest of this board, but not against neighboring state schools who want to grab some prime Texas talent. Let's talk about playing Big or Pac Ten teams, or if an SEC team, make sure it's a state or two removed from Louisiana and Arkansas.

Here's hoping Dodds passes on this deal, and if $Bill is smart, he'll decline too.

for '2010 season:
UNT (Floyd Casey Stadium)
Rice (Reliant Stadium)
UCLA (Sun Devil Stadium)
LSU (Superdome)
vs. Oklahoma (Dallas)
at Nebraska (Arrowhead)
IOWA STATE (Gaylord Memorial)
BAYLOR (Wildcat Stadium, Temple TX)
at Kansas State (Boone Pickens)
OKLAHOMA STATE (Fouts Field, Denton)
at Texas Tech (San Angelo Stadium)
TEXAS A&M (Buffalo Stadium, Giddings)

As coolhorn mentioned (even though he mispelled Aggie), either school playing LSU in Houston is dumb because LSU benefits more than the Texas school would. That said, I think that LSU's presence in a neutral game there would hurt A&M's recruiting more than UT's. So you might end up seeing Texas Tech (the only other viable Texas option) play LSU @ Reliant to increase their Houston exposure & hurt A&M.

That is one of the reasons we agreed to the Arkansas series in Jerryworld. We get more exposure in an area where we've been practically left for dead recruiting-wise. If we pull a recruit or two from that area, it helps us & potentially hurts our rivals. Ditto for Arkansas - they will be recruiting more against OU/Tech/UT than they will against us in that area during the contract term of this series.

PS - One thing that might derail a Tech-LSU series in Houston would be a neutral site game between OSU & Tech @ Jerryworld (which is more likely in my opinion). It's likely that the Red River Rivalry will eventually move to that facility as well. More seats in a billion dollar facility + Jerry Jones aggressively marketing the stadium makes it inevitible in my opinion.

I heard that the next Rice game in Houston will not be at Reliant, but rather at Rice Stadium. great move, in my mind....I don't like a half-full Reliant....plus Rice Stadium is awesome (and serves beer, too!)

4 times as many???

Reliant has 200 suites.

Memorial has 52 suites on the east side alone with 42 in Belmont and another 44 in the NEZ. So not quite 4 times as many.

Call me a bad fan, but i'm not so concerned with the recruiting or the $$ to school as i am with how ******* awesome of a game this would be. It would be kick ***. Plus, i live in Houston

I must be missing something -- why would this cost us a home game? Why not back out of some crap road game like UTEP (2008) or Rice (2010), pay the opponent whatever we're required to pay them for bailing, and schedule this game instead?

Every contract has a buyout provision. It's not like the country would think we were scared, aka the Hawaii debacle a while ago.

No. Once again no. LSU can see the OU roster and they want the same set up at our expense. A home and home is fine, bring it on.
The game would be a blast, but the long term ramifications would definitly hurt Texas win or loss, and there's no way we win every year.

LSU has 8 home games every year, so it would have to be a pretty sweet deal for them to give up a home game in Baton Rouge.

We already have a neutral site game, so give them aggy if they want the game.

**** aggy.

I hope they agree... but don't think LSU would agree to giving us a single game series in Houston. There are a lot of LSU fans in Houston, but I think the crowd would be overwhelmingly Texas. That said, if I am the Texas Ath. Department, I ask for a 3 game series - with 1 neutral (in Houston, of course--heck we can give them "half" of the tickets). Then do a home and home. I'm not sure about the timing, but I think this seems fair. I'm really not at all worried about the recruiting - it hurts A&M more than anyone really. We will hold our own regardless.

If they divided up the tickets like the RRS, I have no doubt that LSU would fill up their side of Reliant in Houston. There are a TON of LSU fans in Htown, and it's not that far to Louisiana from Houston, for the road-trippers.

You would not share in concessions or suite sales. You would make the tickets out of the suites but not the $90 bottles of jack or $60 order of chicken tenders.

Reliant doesn't work that way.
