LSU @ Texas 2/16/25

WTH with the schedule this year… we have a bye but then rather than playing Sunday we play Monday. So our final three games will be played over 7 days with two on the road.

Watch this total BS call on Rori.

ESPN has it as a highlight for a great LSU moment

I couldn’t wait to get home and watch the replay. Not a word uttered by the announcers that maybe there was no foul on Rori. I thought maybe I just blinked and missed it as did my friend next to me. But the replay showed all daylight between them.

I hated it for the team that the LSU fans were so loud during some of the Horns offensive possessions. I sit in the section directly across from the Texas bench and we had our share of Tiger fans around us too! We got up a nice chant of L-S-Who? when the game ended.

We play home & home with LSU next season, so they’ll be back…

Need Texas fans to buy those tix and get to the Moody

We have to remember Justice is not that far removed from a knee injury. She’s just scratching the surface and she’ll get a chance during the offseason to do some body transformation and work on her game. We know she can score and she definitely has great instincts on defense. She’s gonna be a great player!

This foul is very indicative of my biggest frustration with SEC basketball. Every announcer on both the men's and women's side talks ad nauseum about how physical it is in the SEC. They use that as an excuse when driving into the paint and being thrown to the ground or when someone is rebounding on your back. That's fine, we can play physical. But way too often, I see when we play defense we're consistently getting called for these phantom touches, petty hand checks and brushes up against driving players. That ain't physical sweethearts....that's ticky and tack bs and not one of the announcers calls it as such.

Yeah, who in the heck can foul when their hands are on their chest?
I was at the game and didn't realize how bogus it was until I saw that video. A lot of hands and arms tangling with each other as it was pretty frenetic. I thought the Kim-Mulkey effect on the refs was so obvious in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

In the post game pressers, Mulkey questions why our two bigs don’t play at the same time and then Vic suggests he is planning just that at some point. How does a team scout you during the tournament when you could come out with 4 guards or you could come out with two bigs? The thought of that is thrilling.

The video shows Harmon didn’t foul with the body or Kate in the shooting motion….and my first reaction to the call was…..that’s crazy. Now go back and look very early in the LSU player’s “gathering to go up and shoot”…..Harmon reaches and hits the right elbow. I think it was a good call.

If only they would call that when Taylor and Kyla shoot …
Hornview…..I’m with you on that. Jones is punished but non-calls against Oldacre are almost criminal. One play against Carlton where she got hammered on the entire arm was a non-call. Her shot was blocked clean at the end but hammered early. They showed it plainly on replay. It was a war inside and hard to referee the level of athleticism and physicality we saw Sunday. Overall, I thought the refereeing was pretty good. When Horns have the two dominant power players on the court, then I’m always gonna whine for more interior calls. Remember the SC game where it was called so tight in first half that both coaches said “let em play”. I would rather it be called like LSU game than the first half of SC game. I love the refs. Hook ‘Em.

Watched it a dozen times. Still say there is no contact. I can see the moment you reference, but watch again when they repeat it… she doesn’t appear to make contact further evidenced by zero reaction from Johnson. Rori usually doesn’t react when she knows what she’s done. Was listening to the radio broadcast and the announcers went nuts over how bad it was…, and we all know Craig… he’s extremely level headed  But it is what it is. The ref had a better view I am sure and clearly agrees with your take. :beertoast:

Perhaps I’ve got a huge bias….since I was a referee…..and trying to justify a fellow referee’s call. As typical of all referees…..I’ve got real poor eyesight….and your view is well taken.

I’m not seeing the elbow touch either it looked more like an unsuccessful poke at the ball but I’d like to see it in slow-mo. Luckily our refs are outfitted with bionic vision and can see this stuff even without replays that us naked eye fans cannot.

Also didn’t seem like her shooting motion was interrupted one bit by Rori it was as smooth as butter and oh yea, it went in

If the foul on the elbow was when it was, why blow the whistle when they did? Why not when the foul occurred? A difference between resetting with 20 seconds or shooting 2. [granted I don't know the bonus situation at this time]

Really agree with all your points!
Well said. :bevo:

Ok, now go watch Bryanna's layup to take the lead and explain why it wasn't an "and one" then. Because Poa initially raises up both arms then drags one down to clip her before she shot as well. If you're going to call Rori's foul then you have to call the Poa foul as well.

Agreed

Good gawd. How about a warning next time?

Live I thought she might have touched her (barely), but not enough for a foul. After reviewing it many times Rori never even touched her. I'll just have to agree to disagree with anyone that says it was a foul.

Rori hit her elbow. Rori's " hand caught in the cookie jar reaction is the universal guilty sign.

Saw at least 3 of these calls on Saturday both in the mens and womens games.
I guess when your out in the open floor in front of a ref expect to get called on it.
LIke others, its frustrating seeing a ticky tack foul like this called while muggings under the basket aren't called. But its been that way forever. In college and NBA
