Liverpool 07/08 Season Thread

Wow, are we rolling now. 21 goals in 5 games (all wins). Rafa finally gives us what many of us have been clammering for: a Torres - Crouch partnership and we put Bolton to the sword.

13 days until the Scum come to Anfield. We'll find out then if we're really contenders.

Liverpool roll through Marseille and get to the champions league knockout stages 4-0

How good is Torres? There are few strikers in the world as in-form as he is. His pace, dribbling, strength, and finishing ability are second-to-none. He's the complete package and a remarkable player at the age of 23. His goal today was absolutely world-class.

Glad we didn't leave it late. The game was ours from the kick-off and Marseille looked absolutely useless. Kewell has been such a great addition to the squad and links up with Torres so well.

Glad to get some momentum back before the huge game this weekend. Reading was a road bump, but all things considered I'm not too concerned about it. They were a potential banana peel before the season started and we weren't going to go undefeated in the Prem.

Three points is crucial to our title chances this year. A draw wouldn't be the worst result in the world, but three points on the Scum would be huge. I doubt Agger will be thrown into the fire against the Mancs, so here's my lineup:

---------------Pepe----------------
Finnan------Carra----Hyypia-----Arbeloa
Stevie G------Masch----Lucas------Yossi
-----------Kuyt-----Torres----------

I like Yossi and Arbs linking up on the flank. Yossi can switch up with Gerrard, who may be given some responsibility of neutralizing Ronaldo. Huge match and starting Lucas might be a bit risky, but he'll be there to deputize with Masch, who'll have his hands full with his Argentine compatriot Carlitos.

Lucas can pull the strings from deep, and this allows Stevie complete freedom. Kuyt opens the game up so much for Torres, and hopefully Stevie and Yossi will be playing throughballs to El Nino all day.

Totally winnable. We're due after that ******** John O'Shite winner from last year.

That was pretty close to our team today. Maybe slot Finnan in and get Agger back into central defense , but that is it. We have enough cover at almost ever position.

Oh and kick eight bells outta Ronaldo. And if Anderson pips up kick the **** outta him as well.

It's our ****'in perch Mr Ferguson!!

Amazing that we so completely dominated them in their own building with everything on the line. I must say, it was a bit of an anti-climax. Did anyone find out what happened to Stevie at the kickoff? It looked like he must have gotten a tooth knocked out or something. How did we lose to Besitkas and Marseille, and then turn around and beat them 12-0 on the return leg????

Yes, Torres' goal was absolute quality. The boy is on fire. 10 goals out of 11 games for Captain Fantastic doesn't suck either.

Who do we want in the round of 16? Since we can't play Porto or another English side, our choices are currently Sevilla, Inter, AC Milan, Real, Barca. I'd have to opt for AC, solely based on their current form. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, anybody but Inter!

As for the M62 Derby this weekend, I'm already getting keyed up. I hope I don't end up regretting it, but I invited a friend of mine who is a Manc fan over to the house for the match (he doesn't have Setanta). I actually liked the lineup from Marseille. Normally, I prefer Crouch to Kuyt, but I think Crouch is unlikely to get much aerial joy from Rio and Vidic. I would start Finnan (if fit) and move AA to the left (leave Riise out, although his form is improving). Notice how Babel is turning into supersub? I think he's now scored 4 in his last 5, and his pace and energy really cause a problem for tiring defenders.

COME ON YOU REDS - GET STUCK IN!!!

That was a dominating victory yesterday. Nice to see all of the summer signings paying off, especially el nino. Can't believe Maschareno was able to stay in after Hyppia accidentally smashed his ankle.

No doubt, that looked very bad (studs right on the front of Masch's ankle). I'd be very surprised if he's moving very well today. Let's hope he can go on Sunday.

I remember that fixture. Arse celebrated like they won the league after a last gasp goal to earn a draw at home.

Liverpool just lacks quality at the wide positions. Gerrard is getting some criticism but he had to track back all game long to slow down Anderson. Did well at that, but couldn't get forward. Torres got no service and is not to blame. It is interesting that they are getting hammered when Liverpool's problem was actually everyone else in their squad.

Liverpool really created almost nothing despite having so much possession. Their best chances came from idiotic decisions from Van de Sar where the United defenders had the situation under control until he bowled them over.

Anderson, Hargreaves and Tevez were all immense. Hargreaves was bought for games like this. Tevez and Anderson could be fixtures in the United side for years. Anderson continues to play incredibly well. What a revelation he has been.

It will be tough to Liverpool to get back in the title race considering their road fixtures in the second half.

Say what you will about the celebration after that Arsenal-Man. United draw, but as close as this race is, saving the 2 points when they were all but lost may be huge at the end of the season. On the other hand, Arsenal beating Man. United twice in the season last year didn't mean a damned thing.

Sorry Scousers for sullying your thread.
