Liverpool 07/08 Season Thread

I wouldn't bet on Jose. (1) I don't know if he can take an EPL job for a few years. (2) I don't see the American owners as being likely to want to deal with a guy like Jose.

Absolutely F'ing repulsive effort today. There is NO WAY a League 1 team who is in a relegation fight should be able to hold us to a draw. AND WE WERE LUCKY TO GET THE REPLAY!!!! Luton soundly outplayed us for long stretches of the match.

Something is seriously wrong. Not just tactically (however, when was the last time we played with ANY width?), but emotionally. Watching Liverpool is a bit like watching the Longhorns this year. The other side always seems to want it more and we don't try to "switch it on" until the last 15 minutes.

Sick and Disgusted.

This team has looked uninspired the past two months

Hicks should have fired Rafa's *** about 4 weeks ago.

And NO, I don't "understand the culture of Anfield", I just know that there is a ton of money going into that team and they are playing like crap.

The problem is that firing Rafa could lead to the exodus of the Spanish talent away from Anfield. Without Alonso, Torres, Reina and Arbeloa (all Spaniards) and Mascherano (Spanish speaker), Liverpool is no better than the other UEFA Cup candidates.

Sure, selling those players would raise some cash for other transfers in, but that level of instability is dangerous. Gerrard and Carragher are also getting towards the back ends of their respective primes and they may want to go elsewhere for the end of their careers if Liverpool is in crisis.

Hicks should have never opened his mouth and let Rafa hang himself. This poor run of form coupled with the likely exit to Inter in the CL would have been enough for most of the Liverpool supporters to give someone else a shot.

If I were Hicks, I would have sealed up Mascherano, never publicly discussed Rafa or his future, got the refi and stadium deal locked up and waited to see how Rafa performed during the second half of the season. I would then fire Rafa and hire Jose.

Everyone interested has an opinion about Rafa's rotation policy.

He's been a successful manager ....but certainly not on the scale or level of a Ferguson or Wenger.

While Liverpool supporters are firmly in Benitez's corner, it's quite telling that ALL other team supporters are quite pleased to have Rafa stay in Liverpool as manager. The same was certainly not true with Mourinho.

Champions League titles and FA Cup titles are fantastic hardware.

Liverpool is desperate to reclaim a top spot in the Premiereship. 18 years and counting. That's the one that is sorely missing.

Mourinho has been the thorn in Ferguson and Wenger's sides ...not so much Rafa. You do have a valid point in that there is currently no one better available to manage this club, particularly given it's Spanish and foreign influence. Mourinho is not going to go to Liverpool either.

As for Rafa, he just needs to tend to his business. He is on much better footing today than in the past 12 months. From the club press release today......

Has Liverpool decided to completely mail in their EPL season?

!!!MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A few minutes ago I was going to write that after this game, Liverpool was going to have more draws than wins. Then they gave up a 90th minute penalty. So they are still even at 10 a piece in the W & D columns, but they continue to slide down the table. Wow. I'm sure Hicks wishes he had pulled the trigger on the Spaniard in December when he still had Klinsmann under contract. (No link, simply privileged info.

The Reds need a new manager and fast!!!

Ugh. This season started so bright and is now so depressing. Oh well. Rafa is not making a good case for himself, no matter how much the supporters hate Hicks and Gillette

Maybe there's an article in the New York Post or The Sun that you could post. That would be nearly as helpful.

Seriously - state your allegiance or quit shitting on our thread. I know you're not really a Liverpool fan so quit trying to pretend you are because Hicks is suddenly the owner. Seriously, that is the lamest reason ever.

Oh, and maybe you can choose a new team yet again, as it's looking more and more like DIC are buying out the two clueless owners.

I was up at 3:30 this morning to get tickets for the West Ham match on March 5th.

Couldn't believe I got two tickets on the Kop

Didn't go back to sleep - dragin' now

Over the phone from the Liverpool ticket office. They went on general sale on Friday morning. It's a rearranged mid -week game. A lot of out of towners won't be able to make it, so there are still tickets available. It'll be one of the few league games that might not sell out.

I'm going to be in Dublin that week and flights over from Ireland only cost about $50. I'm then going to the Ireland/Wales rugby in Dublin on that Saturday. It's going to be a great sports week!!
