If Mack does the right thing ... and I bet he does ... this could totally **** up the season.

******* shame ... what a dumb *** move.

I blame the students on this one.

Somebody should have seen him and drove him home.

C'mon guys it takes a village!!

Where was Ken Rucker. It's his JOB to make sure this doesn't happen.
Come on now you can only do so much. The ultimate responsablity falls with the player. His actions hurt the team and he will be held responsable for it with the team and the law.

Was he not here last year? Does he have selective amnesia, or did he contract a dose of Agicitis? This is inconceiveable.

We don't need more of this kind of trouble.

Now, I don't know much about this young man other'n that he at least had the good sense to leave ONT (Old North Texas) and come down to be with us (he IS the one from "Colorado", ain't he?) but I don't believe I've seen his name a whole lot in connection with dishonorable circumstances up until now. What I'm gettin' at here is that I believe he oughta get a shot at redemption.

I know that Mack runs a family, not a business - leastways, that's what I read and just lookin' in his eyes when he's talkin' about it, I tend to believe it's so.

And it bein' so, I'd think that unless Lamarr has already screwed the pooch a number of times and shown he ain't worth savin', why, Mack oughta do what he can to bring the proper lessons home to him. Serious reflection on what he's done, in connection with service to others in a form that furthers that reflection, would be what is called for, in my opinion, which you already know has nothin' in common with humble. How to implement that, o' course, is up to Mack.

Out here where I live, there's a place called High Frontier, which is a sorta last shot at salvation for teenagers who ain't just screwed the pooch of their future life but raped it and slashed its throat and left it by the side of the road to die a cold and lonely death - and what happens there seems to work out pretty damn good. From what I see, it looks like most of them kids manage to turn things around and aggregate their feces - and it seems like the major factor is learning to take responsibility for their own selves first and foremost, and not blamin' others when things go wrong and not takin' all the credit when things go right. I think as a general rule, we pretty much all oughta be able to get next to that idea without a lotta help, as long as we ain't up to our asses in mind-fukken drugs.

So... unless he's just somethin' that needs to be throwed in the trash barrel and burnt up, why, we ought to be thinkin' more along the lines of what we can do to help this young man help his own self. The first lesson that needs to be learned is how to look at your self in the mirror and say to your self, "I ****** THAT up... now, what do I need to do to make it right?" 'steada cussin' about that damn cop who gave you that DWI...

The penalty most def. needs to be stiffer and harsher than it has been for others. It should be that way on a progressive path leading up to eventual discharge from the team if players persist, even for a first offense. That would be a ways off but things have to get dicier for them.

Make the team do some unpleasant things as well all in his name. Let them know he is responsible for them having to watch films and meet victims of DWI accidents, even if they have had to do some of this before. Make them do more. Have them get really angry with this jackass to where he takes **** from them.

Let Maddog have his way with him more than normal. Make him do more, way more Community Service than he normally would. Maybe put the Defense on a curfew for two weeks thanks to Mr. Houston. Threaten a team wide curfew after that.

Somebody needs to write a letter to the Daily Texan chastising the student body for encouraging this in our athletes. Partying with them is fun, it is cool but for goodness sake, give the guy a ride or share a cab with him if he is drinking. Come together as a village as somebody said above. Maybe don't do shots with a player if that stuff is going on. Something.

Longtex makes the best point so far and we have to remember he didn't kill, or rob or beat anyone to a pulp...he made a bad decision...we all do it.

100p - you're telling me you've never driven drunk or even a little tipsy before...You've never talked on the cell phone instead of watching what your doing while driving...

Come on...it's evident he screwed up...

I was 15 when I drove maybe a little over the limit. A friend went into convulsions at a party we were at and there were no phones nearby as it was a party in the mountains. I am guilty. I don't have so much as one drink in an entire night when I go out if I am driving. There are a few who will back this up, I think. So no, I don't. And that defense is stupid. Because if people do it, they are stupid.

No, I don't talk on my cell phone while driving if there is so much as another car around or street lights. If I take a call it is to quickly tell them I can pull over if it is important. I see way too many accidents happen due to cell phones and text messaging. I see even more near misses every single day, all day long.

in response to some replies of "We all do it", no I have never recieved a DWI and I, like Lamaar, is a 21 year old college student.

I know that if I was the athlete Lamaar is, I could find other things to do with my Saturday nights knowing I may be playing on Sundays in a few years. Blows my mind everytime.

There is a difference between driving while inebriated or at least a little tipsy and no I have never received a DWI. Until one has gotten a DWI all people can say that but it doesn't mean they have a perfect sober driving record.

You guys realize he could have gone out to eat and had a couple of beers and still been arrested for DUI right ? How many of you leaving the game last night had been drinking ?

The APD is on a mission to make as many DUI/DWI arrests as possible. They set up a mobile booking unit by Threadgills downtown almost every night. You do not have to be falling down drunk to be taken in. If they stop you and you have had even one beer you are going to jail. I have seen it happen to several people I know already. They were not drunk.

I am all for getting dangerous people off of the street but the way they are doing it is not the answer.

I would not be too quick to judge him.
He is of drinking age by the way.
