Or don't trust Michael...

Maybe Ben is telling Michael to tell them to not trust the captain because the captain is NOT lying!

Michael would do ANYTHING to save Walt (who I think is being held by Ben) including lying to Sayid and Desmond.

Year of the Dragon = 2000..definite flashback

My greatest hope is that Michael got brought back into the story so Sayid can torture him. Keeping my fingers crossed...

And I think it's premature to say that Ben orchestrated the fake crash site. We dont' know that, and in fact, the captain never actually SAID that's what happened. I think he implied it, but didn't actually say Ben was the one who did it. (At least I don't think he said it.)

I think it's pretty obvious if you read between the lines here Prodigal and have followed the show this far.

Heheh well that's the thing - the obvious sometimes isn't obvious. I'm not saying he DIDN'T do it, just saying I wouldn't be totally sure about it just yet.

I want to know how you get your hands on a spare jetliner, drop it into the ocean, and have 300+ spare bodies that are identified as people who are really alive elsewhere.

OK, am going with an assumption of Aaaron being the 6th - thanks stay off my farm (I'll do my best).

Also, doesn't one of the flash forwards show Sayid killing for Ben?

If Walt is captured somewhere why does he miscellaneously pop up from time to time. Maybe Michael doesn't understand what's happened to Walt and Ben is using that against him.

OK, I'll just keep watching.

I thought the captain's talk was direct and reasonable sounding. If it was all a lie, it was a very convincing one. Widmore is the only other character who would have the same resources to pull it off but cant see the motivation. He had too many unknowns remaining to make such a bold move.

Okay, so Locke or Ben or Locke and Ben make a deal with the Jate splinter that they can leave but cant disclose the location of the island or even its existence. Otherwise, Locke/Ben will gas em all.

On last week's LOST thread everyone was saying that Ben was somehow the spy on the boat as well. guess they missed the headline that Michael was on the boat like I did.

Yeah, Michael being revealed as Ben's "man on the boat" was the most anticlimactic revelation in TV history.

I think Widmore could have reason to stage the crash - he could be trying to divert attention away from the island as he wants it and its secrets all to itself. Ben said that Widmore wants to find the island because he wants to exploit it, but we know Ben is never truthful for the sake of being truthful. He is a manipulative bastard who tells people what they want to hear while working towards some ulterior motive.

I'm making the assumption that whoever planted the plane and is hiding the island is the same group with which the Oceanic Six made their deal. They get off in exchange for telling this story and not revealing anything about the island. It could be Ben's group, but considering that Ben was dead set on keeping people on, I'm thinking it's not him. he then goes to Sayid and makes the side deal, apparently by telling Sayid that the survivors were still in danger.

My count is:

Jack
Kate
Sayid
Hurley
Sun
Michael

Why is everyone not considering Michael? My wife and I spent the last month getting caught up from Season 1, so what am I missing?

heres a thought charles whidmore is the one the survivors make the deal with...desmond is not one of the "6" so penny doesnt speak to her dad and then its whidmore's funeral that jack goes to in LA that nobody is at. Now they would have no ties to him and try and get back to the island or speak out

So is Desmond really okay now? Or is he still the Desmond from the past who's just accepting his predicament because he talked to Penny?

How can the staged wreckage retain its legitimacy once the Oceanic 6 return? I mean how can all 345(?) passengers be confirmend dead and then 6 are amazingly resurrected without the scandal being revealed?
Makes me wonder whether the freighter crew is being honest with the losties about wreckage being found in the first place...

JJ, that's the most important point to me. Sayid's work for Ben tells me that, in the end, Ben is the one trying to help them.

As far as the fake crash, I would also think Widmore did it. He would do so to allow himself to search for the island/crash without any interference from other searches. We already know he bought the Black Rock journal, so he clearly has an interest in the island.
