Kyler Murray wants $15 million to commit to baseball

In other words, the A's did not want to pay me more money.
AND...after he fails miserably in the NFL, he won't see that sort of money AGAIN from the A's. His bone-headed decision has ensured that he lacks any meaningful leverage for salary negotiations going forward...

I'm not even sure he could get hired to sell cars in Norman after this debacle...

But he’ll probably get big guaranteed money in the NFL draft that I expect will exceed what we A’s would have given him.

While I could be wrong, I suspect not. I would not want to be an 25 year old, looking back at what could have been. In my estimation, that will be Kyler. But to be fair, VY somewhat squandered his opportunity as well although with a caring HC that understood the psyche of his young QB, VY could have had a good career. Further, there were no size issues with VY.

I just believe that Murray’s physical limitations will prevent him from prospering, except as a kick/punt returner and a specialty back. But he just seems extremely fragile to me. Like a rag doll.

The A’s should never have allowed him to play football for OU. Make him make a hard choice last August. #MoneyBall or #BlewThatFirstRoundPick

I also don't get it but will defer to more astute knowers of football on this board. I've heard cannon arm but to me that ball floats a bit too much at times.....Todd Marinovich come to mind? He's fast and he'll lead the league in getting calls for someone hitting him in the head when he ducks to knee cap level....Also will add Matt Leinart on arm strength for comparison....but.....he'll have a chance just like Manziel....

Size is the issue. That’s it. If he’s 5’11”, I’ll eat my hat. He’s closer to 5’8”. I cannot image how someone that height challenged can succeed as a QB in the NFL. Brees is a rare exception, but he’s taller. Wilson is short but he’s tough and can run. Murray is shorter than either, and I don’t think he can take a hit.

In the end, it was his best choice. He will get about the same or more guaranteed money in the nfl. Plus, I don't think he had the constitution to work his way up to the big leagues, much less the talent. He can be on a roster in the nfl for 3 years is my guess. That should set him for life.

I'm glad Kyler is going to the NFL. The league will be more interesting. His combination of speed, quickness and throwing skills is unique in today's NFL. (Historically we've seen it embodied in Michael Vick.)

He signed with the same agent as Kliff Kingsbury -- Erik Burkhardt of SSG
And guess who has the #1 pick?
But the connection has to stop there. I just cant see it -- you cant risk the #1 on a 5'4 QB (no offense)

I can think of 3 teams that are dumb enough to make that pick. Arizona, Dallas, Oakland. Nothing they do surprises me anymore.

Dallas hasn't made a dumb pick in several years.

The A's should wash their hands of this kid and thank the baseball gods for the bullet they dodged.

I am willing to admit he has a great arm, better than many starting QBs (imo). He can make all the throws. And baseball-player-QBs are popular now in the NFL with all their side-armed, under-armed throws. Plus there have been so many rule changes to protect QBs.

Still, its a huge risk with someone that size. Because at some point, in some game, some humongous dude is going to annihilate him from the blindside. Or maybe it will be a safety coming straight at him at 40mph from the perfect angle. And who knows then? -- Kyler might end up in a wheelchair. It's a big calculation for any GM considering using a high pick on him. I just cant see the Cards risking the overall #1 on that. There is no way. Right?

If he is taken in the first, which now seems likely, I think he will be the first ever person taken in the first round of both the MLB and NFL drafts
And you know what that means
Another championship banner for Kyle Field

Hey guys. If you're going to hate, don't be inaccurate. We can't keep an aggy thread going full of guffawing and chuckles and pull things out of our collective arses. If he get's drafted in the Top Half of the 1st Round, he's going to make at least $15m, $8m of that in signing bonus...

He'll make better money failing doing the sport he loves, than doing the sport he's less likely to succeed in and likes less. WORST CASE

Now, if you want to argue that he won't succeed/will succeed...go for it. But if he can go in the 1st round, he can fail and still try for MLB at 25 years old, with millions of dollars IN HAND. It's the right move.

Yes, there was an article I posted somewhere above where Baseball America did the financial breakdown from the 1st pick to the last pick of the NFL first round. The summary was, as long as he goes in the first, the decision for him is easy, purely in terms of money.

However, the perspective from that of an NFL GM is different. Who will be willing to take the risk? There are supposed to be 4 teams looking for a QB in the 1st - NYG, Denver, Miami, Redskins. Other possibles are Ariz and NE. Will be interesting to see how this all unfolds.

God, I hope Arizona doesn't take him! Were moving to AZ in June and I thought I might go to a couple of Cardinal games, but if the Herve Villechaize clone is drafted by them, no deal!

I'm no fan of Jerrah... me thinks he or Steven Jones are smart enough to not waste a pick on Murray if he was still around when Dallas picks.... not saying much, but he did ignore Manziel.

As I recall, Jerrah was chomping at the bit to take JFF. His son practically had to sit on him to keep from taking him. Am I remembering wrong?

You got it right. Stephen and a couple of scouts or coaches talked him out of Johnny M. The o line was the priority at the time. Now that priority is mostly taken care of, cowboy fans may want to brace themselves. Midget ball could be a possibility here.

One thing to keep in mind was kingsbury last month saying he'd take midget with the first pick. Did he really mean it or is he and the front office head faking the jets and Denver.... IOW, trying to reach for leverage with Kyler being the greatest thing since Joe Namath, have suckers bite, then trading down and bringing in a haul of draft picks and serviceable talent.

Not a bad plan if you could pull it off. Step one, find a team with a to 7th or 8th pick that wants to trade up to the top pick. Get a 1rst round this year, and next years draft. Step 2, watch Elway, the jets , or jerrah bid for that 7th pick in the draft. Then collect a quality lineman and yet more draft picks for swapping that 7th pick for Dallas or Jacksonville or nyjets or denver's first round pick. Is anyone dumb enough to take that bait? Doesn't hurt to try

All this hullabaloo about a qb that won't be a franchise qb or even close to it. Funny stuff

Jerry is still a loose cannon, but he does not have a pick until late in the second round so another will make what appears to be the foolish move to take Murray. Of course, Jerry could gain a first round pick at the expense of the future.

Stephen needs to hide the bottle of Blue on day one.

Played 1 year of college football throwing to wide open receivers in the most prolific offense in D1 history.
Bolted on aggy, could easily bolt to baseball if his feelings got hurt..

Sounds like a top 10 pick to me. :brickwall:
