Kudos to Texas Anti-Abortion Protests

I have to give a big shout-out to all the Texas women and men - Democrats and Republicans - that have strongly protested the anti-abortion bill in Austin. It's having a national impact, much like long ago in 1968 when UT students protested against one of it's own - LBJ - and the Viet Nam War. Ultimately this was one of the reasons he did not run for re-election. Of course, one can debate whether having Nixon replace him was better for the country - but the Viet Nam War was ended as a result.

Hook'em!!!

I used to be pro-choice in my views, but now I must admit that I can see valid arguments from both sides. I'm a big believer in personal freedom when it doesn't infringe upon others, but at the same time I can't condone taking a life and that is precisely what a late term abortion is.

It's what an early term abortion is too. Once you have that unique genetic code you have a separate (though dependent) life on your hands, and cannot ethically, morally, spiritually treat it as less than human.

I am against abortion in any case that does not involve rape, incest or the life of the mother being threatened by giving birth.

Sadly, 99% of abortions probably dont fit into those categories.

And why the hell would anyone wait 20 weeks to have the abortion anyway? Its sick. And to see so many people supporting it. I just dont get it.

I wonder of the people who cheered Wendy Davis trying to keep abortions legal at 26 weeks know how developed a baby is at 26 weeks?

I wonder if the people who send kudos to the protestors know?
here is an interesting op on the issue by Kirsten Powers. If offers some insight into a 26 week baby's development and also to the same claim made when Penns forced abortion clinics to up grade their facilities

two salient quotes from Powers link:
1."According to the Parents Connect website, if you are in the 25th week of your pregnancy, “Get ready for pat-a-cake! Baby’s hands are now fully developed and he spends most of his awake time groping around in the darkness of your uterus. Brain and nerve endings are developed enough now so that your baby can feel the sensation of touch.” Let’s be clear: Davis has been called a hero for trying to block a bill that would make aborting this baby illegal.
2.'. The New York Times warned that the Texas bill “could lead to the closing of most of Texas’s 42 abortion clinics.” That sounds familiar. In 2011, the Pennsylvania ACLU claimed a post-Gosnell bill “would effectively close most and maybe all of the independent abortion clinics in Pennsylvania.” Last month, a Pennsylvania news site reported that “several” abortion clinics have closed, which isn’t quite the Armageddon the abortion-rights movement predicted."The Link

Things like don't ask dont tell are exactly the type of incrementalism that I'm talking about. It was a slightly left compromise position that opened the door for gays to openly serve in the military. If the dems had gone for the hail mary from the beginning, the door would have been slammed in their face. Now we have gays openly serving and it happened without much of a fight.

But their true expertise shows in creating small programs with a limited scope then eventually blowing them up into gigantic monstrosities. Carter started a small little agency with a 12 billion dollar budget that was to take over education related duties that we housed in other departments. It is now our 100 billion a year department of education. Even when a department is started by a Rep like the EPA, the dems will take it over and blow the budget up over a period of decades. These changes didnt happen overnight. It was the constant pressure over decades that led to these changes.

Well, the GOP is the party of limited government so it is a bit hard to judge them by the standard of ever expanding federal bureaucracy.

Yeah, let's give a big shout out to the pro-baby killers!

Maybe we can get a Philadelphia-style clinic here too! One of those where they just snip the spinal cord if they baby is still kicking. Hip Hip Hooray!

Wendy Davis for governor! Sandra Fluke for Lt. Gov. Yeah, let's do this thing.

I think that's reasonable, but I don't think it's absolute. If a woman decided to abort a fetus late in the pregnancy, I'm still not convinced she should be jailed.

I don't know that many women who know they are pregnant choose to abort later than the first trimester. It seems most women decide pretty quickly after they learn they are pregnant.

Do you think women should be jailed for abortions?

RV, I am pro-choice. However, I can't see a reason why someone would kill a viable life. At 5 months, the baby starts to kick and women are aware of its presence. The baby at this point begins to dream and in many cases can survive outside the womb. Its murder of a baby and its hard for me to see the difference between this and killing a baby outside the womb. Can you explain to me the difference?

I'm honestly not sure about the woman assuming she went to a doctor to have it done. However, I would have no problem with a doctor being jailed for performing an abortion on a healthy 9 month old fetus. That type of abortion is the same thing that Gosnell did, just a few inches inside the woman instead of a few inches outside. Where that limit should start, I have no idea.

I believe abortions should be safe, legal and rare. A fetus viable or borderline viable outside the womb deserves protection.

Admittedly, this is not a "hot button" issue for me. However, I see these Republican laws and how they are perceived by smart, media-savvy women 19-29 in my circle of friends and family. That energy, projected over a lifetime of politics, bodes ill for the political progeny of Perry, Dewhurst and company.

NO. The provisions aimed undercutting Planned Parenthood and pretty much any other organization that is passionate about honoring a woman's power to choose, is ham handed. I think they are intentionally creating a Constitutional challenge bound to fail. Certainly I see reasons to compromise recognizing earlier fetus viability, but the GOP leadership in this state doesn't. So they will push the pendulum far to the right and accellerate their fall from power. In 2020 Wendy Davis will be a helluva lot more politically relevant than Rick Perry and Ted Cruz will either reinvent himself or go by the wayside by 2024.

The Left embraces incremental progress because it is an explicit philosophy of political change called Fabianism. There is actually a Fabian Society in England with the stated purpose of gradual change toward the goal of Socialism, as opposed to revolution.

Do the posters giving ' kudos" to the porotestors give extra kudos for shouting " Hail Satan"

and kudos to all the protestors who emailed a female legislator who is a Doc and for this bill, who emailed that they hoped she would be raped or her daughter raped?
or who emailed or went on FB of other supporters of the bill with hopes the supporter dies>

Of course it wasn't every protestor but the numbers who did this appear surprisingly large.
