Kobe is clutch

Basing evaluation blindly on stats without watching the actual game play leads to poor evaluation. This is true in every sport. Do you disagree? Do you have a take on the game in question?

That was a nice game winner.

He was also very good down the stretch in a close game last night. (Artest missed the game winner at the buzzer.)

Wow. Saw the highlight on that 3 last night. He actually hit a 3 with about a minute to go and many other clutch shots down the stretch. Then he finishes it off with a 3 in the last 4-5 seconds to give the Lakers the win by 1.

He is the best finisher in the league today and damned clutch as well.

Oh and this on his 1st game back after being out for 3 weeks due to injury.

No mention of Kobe's last second miss today? Or the one two weeks ago? That is surprising. I would have thought naphan or hornpharmd would have popped up to mention it.

To hornpharmd and naphan in advance, no need to say I disappear for long periods of time just to come on when Kobe misses. Both of you also don't post for weeks until Kobe makes another one.

I will say this year Kobe has been better in clutch situations than in the past. He has raised his career percentage a little bit, bringing him a little bit closer to average statistics wise.

Dude this is not a thread intended to be updated every time the guy makes or misses a clutch shot. And even the definition of what a clutch shot is has been debated a bit on this thread.

You though seem to pop up anytime he misses such a shot. Such a shot that any basketball fan with any IQ would realize that he is not going to make every single one of them. But the large # he has amassed already this season only goes to back-up the statement I made earlier that he is "clutch".

Now stop digging up old threads in which your opinion has been burried by many other posters and in which you failed to respond to back then. Seriously you failed to contribute to this thread from 1/28 to 2/24. You have something meaningful to say you should have said it back then.

You didn't say anything from 2/01 to 2/24, both times updating the thread when he made a game winning shot. If you can post every time he makes it, I can post when he misses it.

I agree, and have said so many times, no one needs to make it every time to be called clutch. His career percentage speaks for itself. This year he is doing better, pretty impressive actually, but still misses a good amount. The coverage of his misses and lack of mention here reinforces my point that his misses are forgotten while his makes are celebrated.

The sheer amount of last second/game winning shots he takes also backs up my point that he jacks up tons so is bound to make some.

Meh, he missed one. Got a good look, took a good shot and it didn't drop. Kobe went 2/3 in the final 30 seconds and almost brought them back...but I guess this is the best argument you can come up with at this point.

I think what hornpharmd's annoyed about is that you go MIA everytime someone makes a point you can't answer, and you only show up to make the "kobe missed one" posts.

Tonight's game winning shot brings Kobe's total to 7/11 on game winning oportunities for the season.

...but he's not very clutch.

He definitely has an impressive run going. This year he has definitely been clutch. Time will tell if this is a new trend or just an anomaly.

The opposing team has to know he is going to shoot, but I haven't seen them alter their defensive strategy much. If I was the coach against the Lakers I would have my team double team him on the last possession and then maybe even triple team him inside of 3-4 seconds to go. It is dumb that they keep playing him straight up knowing he is going to shoot. And this would apply regardless of his percentage. Because you know he will shoot, you put extra guys on him, which will lower his percentage.

Dude, seriously...I agree that teams should double Kobe in those situations, but you don't double/triple team someone at the end of regulation just because they're going to chuck up a shot. You do it because they're good at making those shots.

And for the record, Toronto ran a double at Kobe but it didn't help so much.

(btw...typo above...he's 7/10 on game winners this year, not 7/11.)

Dude it seems like Kobe read this thread and decided to stick it to who ever started arguing with the OP.

The OP is 1000000% right. Kobe Bryant IS the guy you want taking the shot to win. He has 7-8 game winners at the buzzer this year... Thats simply amazing.
