Knebel Has Been Suspended

"it just may be who's been recruited to play."

Agree, but the coaching staff is responsible for recruiting players that can excel against D1 competition.

We're talking of hitting improvement as we sit in last place. Have we ever been in last place this late in the season. This conference sucks this year. The first place team has lost 33% of conference games and the second place team 40%. So we suck even in a down year.
We've really shown WVa how tough the B12 is

Bottom line is this program is in shambles. That is on Augie. LIke Denmark pointed out TX is in last place in a conference that is not good at all. It would be bad enough to be in last place in the SEC or ACC, but in the Big XII this year is inexcusable. So far Texas has lost every series in conference. Has this every happened? Time for a regime change.

"And Dodds won't fire him. Or Barnes. Or Mack."

Solution: fire Dodds and hire someone who will fire all 3 so that TX can actually get back to the main purpose of fielding those sports - to WIN.

Well thanks for authorizing me to have an opinion

I guess I just have higher standards than you. Miss the NCAA tournament last year and in LAST PLACE IN THE BIG XII this year and on pace to lose every conference series. The team in disarray with suspensions and expulsions. This is Augie's responsibility and he has failed. The program is a mess. If anyone's opinion is wrong I think is the opinion that think Augie needs to stay. Expectation of excellence favors my opinion.

Well, Augie is 74 years old after all. He's probably forgotten more about baseball than any of us know. Perhaps therein lies the problem.

There is no doubt in my mind that Augie has forgotten more baseball than I will ever know and he has been a tremendous coach at TX. However, as stated above he is 74, and he does not care to recruit and it shows. The program is in trouble and I believe a change is needed.

Augie began the process to solve the problem with recruiting when he got rid of an assistant he should have jettisoned years back.

NBHorn7 began pointing out the former assistant's ineffectiveness several years ago.

Now, with an energetic and smart 33-year old instead of a 60-something doing the recruiting, Texas will inevitably improve on the talent that it had been bringing to the 40 acres the last several years.

Many insiders knew that the former assistant wasn't making as many trips around the state (or out of state) that last several years that he had made in years past. Using highlight videos in his office at the Disch as his primary recruiting tool, he made some sub-optimal recruiting decisions -- and they have shown up the last several years.

Hell, when I played four years of high school baseball, in my senior year I could have put together 20 plays in the field and 20 at-bats that would have impressed a guy in Austin.

It's now up to a much younger and much more energetic assistant in Nicholson to actually go watch kids play -- and not base lots of recruiting decisions on highlight films.

It will get better, but it will probably take a couple of years before UT baseball fans see major offensive improvements.

Augie said in his post-game interview on Sunday that he was going to change his bat vendor (probably in jest), but he may be planning to change the vehicles that swing the bats as well. Most freshmen don't usually make much impact, but I imagine there will be lots of freshmen on next year's team -- taking up the spots of a bunch of transfers from this year's squad.

Longhorns pitcher Corey Knebel was suspended Friday because he willingly substituted his urine sample to protect a teammate from failing a drug test, a source with knowledge of the situation told the American-Statesman.
