Knebel Has Been Suspended

According to some sources Knebel has been suspended and sent back to Austin.

That would explain his not appearing so far in situations he has always done so in the past.

This should come out publicly soon I would think as it's showing up on other Longhorn forums like OrangeBloods.

Anybody with a subscription might want to check it out.
I don't have one.

Inside Texas hasn't said anything about it. They focus heavily on football, though.

I wonder what Knebel did. Hopefully not another drug or alcohol related incident.

He probably is frustrated with how we are playing. All the boy seems to want to do is win.

It's too bad he'll be gone after june.

Doesn't really matter as this is more evidence of a systemic problem with the program. The program is in shambles and Augie is responsible. Last place in the mediocre Big XII, enough is enough. He needs to be sent packing.

You're right up, let's fire the coach that will go into the history books as possibly the best college baseball coach ever. A coach that has won 2 NC's here and has won a NC in each of the last 5 decades.

Damn he sucks. What the hell were we thinking hiring him?

The problem is that a student is stuck there for three years once he signs. I don't think I would work in my job for three years if my boss and I had a disagreement about my role. Or if you fired my manager in an effort to make yourself look good.

The school bent over backwards to accomodate issues with Tim Moss, Justin Simmons, and the guy who the valet turned the lights off on his boxster causing him to get pulled over.

Then later on (when the team is not winning) Jordan Etier, Ricky Jacquez and now possibly Knebel are on the losing end of things.

I don't want Augie fired, I want the ship righted and Texas to play the caliber of baseball they are capable of.

Gosh I don't remember saying that he should have never been hired. However, when the team/program has progressively gotten worse and now sits in LAST FREAKING PLACE in the Big XII, then his time has come to move on. Don't forget TX missed the NCAA tournament last year and now is worse this year. 1 down year is understandable, but to come back and be worse, that ain't acceptable. 2005 was 8 seasons ago, so keep living in the past while programs like Oregon who did not even start playing baseball again until 2009 has surged to the top, while SC, FL, LSU, NC, CSF, UV, AR, Oregon St. and Vandy continue to be competitive. This is directly related to better coaching. You guys who believe this performance is acceptable sure have low standards.

Witth respect to Augie's early years, he was working with Gus' players and culture, so he deserved time to get his staff, culture and players in place. That ain't the case now. This team cannot hit and hasn't been for several years. That is directly on Augie and his staff. Presumably they recruited position players that could hit on the HS level and they projected to be able to hit on the D1 level. So they either missed on almost every player when they offered or they have done a terrible job of transitioning the hitters to better pitching. Either way it is again on Augie.

As we say in Denmark...Vind elle forsvind...Win or get lost.

The competition to get the right athletes is much stiffer than it ever has been. You have to get the winners and get them to produce, not necessarily the players with the most stars.

Our coaches in the 3 biggest sports, just aren't getting it done period! They are getting big money and not doing their jobs good enough.bv

We outhit Kansas in each of the games that we lost and have been getting double digits in hits lately. The hitting is coming around and is currently better than last year. When something is better, usually that is thought of as an improvement.

The pitching has been very good, but inconsistent. It is frustrating going to the games and watching this team because they really seem on the verge of breaking out.

And I'm not living anywhere near the past, unless you feel that being in Omaha the year before last is too far in the past. Augie saw a problem after a down year last year and made a move to correct it. Currently, we are hitting better as a team so far this year(compared to last year) and the hitting has been slowly improving. I was expecting 2/3 in the last series, but we continue to lose (and win a few) one run games.

So, personally, I think it would be complete idiocy to fire the winningest coach in college baseball.

Orangeblood, I understand what you are saying. I think that part of the frustration that some have, including me, is that sometimes there seems to be no serious post season evaluation of each program and the coaches by the athletic department.

Now I may be 100% wrong. Maybe there is an evaluation each year. I certainly hope so. It is a standard business practice to evaluate employees each year. I believe that this should apply to every sports program that we have.

I am also talking about evaluations that are solid and serious, ones that are based upon standards and expectations. Problems should be identified and coaches made responsible for solutions. Things that are good should be rewarded.

Just my thoughts.

It is so easy to say right the ship, fire the coach - I was always taught that in addition to the "complaint" you also have to offer a solution. I haven't seen a solution offered in this posts. Who would you hire?

"We outhit Kansas in each of the games that we lost and have been getting double digits in hits lately."

Out hitting KU is not anything to brag about. Is that the standard now?

TT, who is tied with TX for last place in the Big XII, but owns the tie braker with 2/1 series win, pitching dominated TX batters. However, TT has been bashed ever since.

"And I'm not living anywhere near the past, unless you feel that being in Omaha the year before last is too far in the past."

Not too far, but that team had no chance and was 2 and Que. However, since then the team has been gotten progressively worse. Similar to the FB team playing for a NC, then going 5-7. If Mack had gone 3-9 the next year he would have been gone. Instead he made some slight improvement. The same cannot be said for Augie. This is a trend, not a 1 year blip.

Another anecdotal comment. My son is HS JR pitcher in OK. He is a D1 prospect and is over 6'3" and throws in the mid 80s. We went to the TX pitching clinic for 14-18 yr olds in January. Augie was nowhere to be found. Skip was there, but did very little other than watch the bull pen sessions and make a few comments. No instruction from Skip and left the drills up the players. At a minimum Augie should have been there to thank the parents and introduce the staff. A week later we went to the OSU pitching clinic. Head Coach Matt Holliday and his entire staff were present and each spoke to the parents. The pitching coach Walton took all the players through 2 hours of drills and mechanics and Holliday was present and assisting throughout. Then they threw bull pens with Walton observing and teaching. The difference could not have been greater. It left an impression on me on the level of engagement by the coaching staffs.

My solution is to go after Horton with big $$ (yeah I know Phil Knight is an Oregon alum and big $ backer). If no luck, then go after the Oregon St coach. If TX cannot get either one, then go after Dave Serrano at Tenn (former Irvine coach).

Agree 100% that every team believes it is a big deal to take 2 of 3 from TX based on the historical success of the TX program, and OU will always celebrate beating TX in anything as will TCU, BU and TT. But OSU, KSU and KU along with everyone else will just expect it if this trend is not stopped.

I'd rather see Andy Lopez from Arizona as head coach ahead of any of the others listed above, save except maybe the Irvine coach.

I say this not based on what he did last year with Arizona, I've liked him since back when he was with Pepperdine.

With respect to Lopez, he is a good coach obviously. However, I have heard that he does some things with his players that I don't really respect (as do other coaches Galloway, Van Horn).

"Then let's don't assume it can't be by those we have in place. It's a chronic fallacy to assume that a change at the top will always fix a downward trend."

I agree that there is a risk the replacement staff will not perform better. However, with proven coaches the risk is mitigated and the TX program is as pretty stinking low. I guess the question is how long do you wait for Augie to right the ship, 1 more year, 2 years?

"Goestenkors was a fix, right?" Goestenkors appeared to be a good pick and the WBB program needed a change. However, the hiring committee failed to appreciate the recruiting challenges that TX faces as opposed to recruiting to Duke. TX is way behind the 8 ball recruiting against BU, A&M, OU and possibly even TT. The TX program has fallen significantly in prestige. However, Duke can pick and choose b/c their academic reputation brings a broader appeal. So Goestenkors recruiting deficiencies were covered up and when she got to TX she was not up to par with her competition in securing players.

I like Augie and he has forgot more baseball this morning than I will ever know. However, this program is in trouble and needs an overhaul in my humble opinion.
