Kavanaugh's SC Confirmation Hearings

Well, what I have seen so far, they certainly haven't discredited her enough to put doubt into most people's mind.

I can see that some details of a traumatic event could be forgotten but to forget where it was, how she got there, how she got home ( if she had been driven who drove her, why hasn't anyone come forward)

Her little poor innocent me act is thin.
 
So everything I've seen from reports is playing out pretty much like we all figured: GOP trying to be sensitive and not making any headway whatsoever other than pointing out the discrepancies that no one on the left will care about. Dems fundraising off this like there's no tomorrow. Completely lost in the shuffle is that there are still no corroborating witnesses, and in fact the witnesses we have all deny this happened or can't confirm it.

So the outcome: enough GOP will peel off that they won't have the numbers to confirm. McConnell will see this, and announce that the GOP is concerned about these allegations, and believes that its best course is to withdraw its support and not hold a vote.

Trump will likely tweet a bunch of stuff, because he can't NOT do that. Kavenaugh won't be confirmed. The base will be livid. Blue wave will ensue because GOP voters aren't going to think it matters anymore. GOP loses the house, and possibly the senate.

Only way this doesn't become a complete train wreck is if the Senate holds on through midterms. They will then go through this exercise again (I am really doubtful they'll be able to get another nominee through the process when they couldn't do it this time.) And we'll see this same circus all over again.

We'll lose the House, but POSSIBLY gain Amy Barrett Brown on SCOTUS.

My best guess at what that was getting at was that if they can later show some big Dem donor paid for it, then they can cast her as an Dem activist, an idea apparently supported by her Facebook postings which were scrubbed before that original article came out.

They way Mitchell asked the Q was whether her attorneys told her that. Which they argued touched on privileged communication.

The problem was the form of the question. I dont know if she screwed up or was just trying to slip that in. She could have just as easily asked it a way not subject to such an objection.

But Trump could then argue A/C Privilege no longer exists in any form!

It doesn't matter to the layman whether or not she put forth anything to strengthen her accusations.
Political voters will not be swayed with this show today and politicians have already decided how they were going to vote, except for maybe three of the Senators. Those three will have a viable excuse to NOT vote for him now unlike before.

I tend to agree. Mitch will make the call to punt if he is sure he doesnt have 50 votes. And if they do punt, then R-voters wont like it. Rs want their people to fight. When they dont, as they usually dont, it's depressing. Enough depression for suppression (that was my best Jesse Jackson)? Probably. Enough to lose the Senate? Probably not.

We already know Collins is a warbler. And Flake is a flake. But do we know where Murkowski stands?
 
So, who will Trump nominate to replace Kavanaugh?
He is not getting confirmed no matter how his testimony plays out.
 
Senator Graham pretty much spoke 100% truth after her testimony which is that Ford and Kavanaugh have been used politically.
 
Let's not jump to conclusions. He could still be confirmed. Just need the Rhinos to get on board.

I agree that the Repubs hired gun wasn't all that impressive. Alan Dershowitz said yesterday that Mitchell didn't have the right kind of experience for this particular line of questioning.
 
I love the "this doesn't seem partisan" comments. As if they expected Ford to come in and express her deep fear of Kavenaugh's stance on Roe v. Wade and her belief that his appointment would destroy our country - I'm pretty sure she was told to say absolutely nothing partisan.

I think she was there via John Kyl who replaced McCain and who was already intimately involved with the Kavanaugh nomination
 
GOP wanted to be nice to her before voting Kav out of committee. GOP still has cards to play.
 
Wow. Angry/indignant Kavanaugh is on alert.
He is doing his best Clarence Thomas.
Even if he still goes down, I like him better now for this.
I wish my party had more fighters
 
So I was too busy drinking beer at 10,000 feet (at the Zugspitze) and chillin with Deez, Jr. to have watched this hearing. However, I'm almost not sure how it's possible to have NOT made her look bad given her half-assed story. Mitchell must have really sucked.

I will say this. Hiring a sex crimes prosecutor made little sense for two reasons. First, as a prosecutor her job isn't to discredit accusers. It's to make them seem believable. Trying to do the reverse isn't going to be her forte. Could I make a jury disbelieve someone's injuries? I guess, but I wouldn't be at the top of my game. Second a prosecutor is still a government employee. They make a living whether they're good or mediocre. I don't care how hard you want to win, you'll never be as good as someone who has to win to put food on the table or at least to attract clients. That's why Marcia Clark sleepwalked through the OJ trial while Johnny Cochrane treated it like it was the trial of his life. I may not have liked the result of his work or how he did it, but he put his whole heart and soul into it. That's what the GOP needed here, which is why a high-powered criminal defense lawyer would have made more sense.
 
This was very emotional and difficult for him> He was fighting tears much of the time . He was very sincere and wow his calendar while not proof was pretty compelling> He started keeping a calendar/ diary because his father did. This caused him to tear up but it explains why he keeps his own.
DiFi brought the other 2 accusers into it even though Grassley said today was ONLY about Dr Ford.

I really like his passion and conviction. I like him more now watching himself PROVE and defend himself. I think Trump whispered to him to throw politics out and speak your mind. To me you come across more open and honest.
 
It is good for him to go last. His daughters prayed for the accuser.
But I know the MSM will edit it to benefit the accuser.
 
Why the hell are the republicans allowing the prosecutor to use their time? Good grief, no wonder most view these people as incompetent idiots. Let the democrats prosecute him, not your surrogate.
