Karen Aston news conference

Funny you compared Carey to Ethridge. I was wondering where Kamie Ethridge was coaching after she left KSU two years ago, and if she could be a candidate to replace Travis.

But, searching the web I see that she is the head coach at Northern Colorado:

Kamie was Deb Patterson's assistant when they were both at K-State. Kamie and Deb are social as well as coaching partners. When Deb was let go at K-State, they both took jobs at NCU. They decided to flip the script and now Kamie is HC and Deb is her assistant. I think they are a package deal and doubt they would be showing up at Texas any time soon.

Shane is excellent to me on the sidelines. I've watched him coach last year and this year. Understand the spacing and the defense out there. I think he would fill multiple voids.
While I don't doubt you one bit, having seen that he was at Rice and a few other smaller D1 stops I still think I would want someone who's had success at an institution with the size and expectations of what we're trying to create here.

The assumption here with GW and Tina's limited experience is that whoever comes in will also double as Associate HC. Hard to imagine that person not coming in from an elite D1 program and a proven track record of success.

The more I think about it, the less idea I have as to who will actually be hired to fill Travis' position. There's always a chance that it ends up being someone that has not yet been mentioned on this board . . .

I'll tell you what I think... I think Karen knows EXACTLY what she's doing. I have faith that she'll get just the person we need - whomever that may be. Remember, had she not convinced Mulkey to hire Damien McKinney, Baylor may not have been able to ink Griner, Sims, and others out of the DFW Elite AAU program.

standout basketball player for the University of Texas from 2002-05, has been named an assistant coach with the Longhorns women's basketball program, head coach Karen Aston announced on Thursday.

Carey was a member of UT's 2003 NCAA Final Four team and also played four years in the WNBA. She has top-caliber experience at every level, including four years at USA Basketball as the assistant women's national team director. She returns to her alma mater after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Colorado.

Will never forget her clutch shot to beat KSU in 2003. Think I still have the last 2 mins or so of that game on a video somewhere on my backup hdd.
