Jordan Effing Spieth

Before all the SJW crap made its way to PGA broadcasts, I watched every tournament, all 4 rounds. Golf Channel was on my TV if LHN wasn't. That's all been ruined for me.

I only watch Tiger to hopefully see him fail, but that's a whole other thread. A lot of the young guns are very exciting to watch. IMHO.

But, you have to really love PGA golf to feel that way, and I get totally that most people don't.
I grew tired of much the media and fanbase falling over themselves for Tiger because he was black.
I am told not to see color. In addition I did not like his arrogance. However, the man was one hell of a golfer. And since his fall he seems to be much more humble. I am ok with him.

I watch golf when Spieth is playing. I play the game and consider it to be one of the few class sporting events left in the world. And as far as I am concerned, Spieth personifies the class of the profession. And make no doubt about it, he will win many more times because there are shots he can only make. He is the real deal.

Tiger is multiracial.

I personally didn't care what color he was, I watched because he was a machine not phased by pretty much anything nor any challenge. In the world of golf which is so mental he seemed to have the focus of super man and I found that very interesting because no one else can perform on a course like that. Then he got married. The end.

I may consider pulling fro Tiger if Golf Channel didn't literally spend 95% of the time talking about him. And, for the casual fan who may tune in on the weekend to see him in a tournament, wall to wall coverage of Tiger the rest of the week just probably makes people like me not watch.

Any of the casual fans here tune in to Golf Channel to hear Rich Lerner have almost on-air orgasms talking about Tiger?

Tiger is multiracial.
You are being naive. There is no multiracial. If you have black genes you are black. It’s a big deal and pays well. One of my best friends is married to a Thai woman. I ask him if Tiger was Thai or black. He was quick to set me straight.

I am ok with that. Black is popular and much of the media and others fawn over them. Have you been watching TV? Everybody in the commercials are going black.
I love all of my friends, some of which are black, and I don’t care. But don’t send me subliminal messaging.

I dunno man. According to Wikipedia,

"Earl was a retired U.S. Army officer, and Vietnam War veteran who reported African American, Chinese, and Native American descent. Kultida (née Punsawad) is originally from Thailand, where Earl had met her when he was on a tour of duty there in 1968. She is of mixed Thai, Chinese, and Dutch ancestry. Tiger has described his ethnic make-up as "Cablinasian" (a syllabic abbreviation he coined from Caucasian, Black, American Indian, and Asian)."

If all that can be reduced to Black, okey dokey.

Yep. He has been billed as a black golfer.
The End

This is a stupid discussion, but Tiger is portrayed, marketed, whatever you want to call it, as a black man. Period. Plain and simple. Anyone who thinks the general public sees Tiger as Asian is probably not being honest.

Tiger is biracial. We all agree. I think @Chinstrap is talking about the perception of the average dolt out there as to what tiger's racial makeup is at first glance.

He looked more Asian when he was younger IMO, but not so much now IMO.

Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, Tiger Woods, Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Booker T Washington, Frederick Douglass, Sade, Drake, Bob Marley, Derek Jeter—-these people are all 50% or less of African descent. They are almost always referred to as black or African American.
Same with almost every 1/2 black person who is not famous.

There could be a lot of different explanations for this, but it is a clear pattern.

Jordan should never have bought that first house in Preston Hollow. That house carries a jinx. Look at the previous owners. Glad he sold it and moved, but he held it too long.

Hope the jinx is gone and he's off and running on a restored career.

Great young man; great golfer

I thought science was important but once again emotions rules the day when it's favorable for a desired outcome.
I suspect that very few, except perhaps “23 and Me,” or “Ancestry.com” are interested in the details of Tiger’s ethnicity. He is referred to as an African American, a black man, whenever the subject is discussed, and I have never seen the matter questioned or disputed until this thread. Seems like much ado about nothing to me, and probably to Tiger as well.

Interesting perspective. I always thought it was because he ate the wedding cake. I have seen wedding cake ruin many young men.

Spieth was never the same after the 12th hole at Augusta in 2018. He has pressed too hard since. Glad to see him going back to his old ways in many ways. It's making is brain work better.

I remember when Tiger came up with the Cablinasian term he upset a lot of people who wanted a Black champion in golf, so I'm not sure what Tiger thinks. He didn't exactly embrace his Blackness to peoples liking. There are plenty of amazing Black athletes but its literally not scientifically accurate to say Tiger, or Mahomes or even Obama are simply "Black." Biracial is literally a real thing but for political brownie points or simple tribalism people like to claim one part of their genetic background because they think it elevates them socially. Anyway.

There is a two part series on HBO Max about Tiger. It talks about how he became a mental machine. Really good show.

Tiger Woods is one-fourth black, one-fourth Thai, one-fourth Chinese, one-eighth white and one-eighth American Indian. Which explains why he looks more Asian than anything.

Which is why only calling him Black and ignoring the rest is just intellectually lazy or intentionally misleading. There's a lot of political equity being Black, especially these days. That's all. Don't want this getting political.

This matter has been questioned or disputed his entire career, including Tiger himself.

If someone tells me what race he belongs to and the facts back it up, I'd feel awfully arrogant to label him something different.

As usual, the point has been missed by some here. None of us said he’s black. We said many people look at him and think he’s black.

What’s so hard to understand about that and move the hell on back to Jordan Spieth?

The Census:

OMB requires that race data be collected for a minimum of five groups: White, Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, and Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander. OMB permits the CensusBureau to also use a sixth category - Some Other Race. Respondents may report more than one race.

So, how would Tiger self-identify?

One last thing...does Tiger Woods' life "matter"?

Just kidding! Back to Spieth; hope he wins.
