JerryWorld progress

I don't really understand that reasoning.

I went to the Breeders Cup at Lone Star Park a couple of years ago. There were more helicopters taking the super-rich into and out of that place than I have ever seen at a Super Bowl. But I don't think any of those corporate titans thought "hey, I really want to do business in Grand Prairie now." From the looks of how fast they got back in their helicopters, I suspect they were thinking "I wish Grand Prairie weren't so damn far from the airport."

Everything that Jerry does is for the greater benefit of Jerry's ego and Jerry's pocketbook. If it has a negative effect on Arlington, Jerry really doesn't care. If it has a positive effect, Jerry doesn't care (though he'll undoubtedly take credit for it).

I really don't want to reopen this tired debate with you, Andrew. We disagree on this issue. And one day in ten years perhaps we can sit down and have a beer and discuss who was right and who was wrong. But suffice it to say that Jerry's pricing structure is greed for it's own sake, and not for the greater good of Arlington or its chamber of commerce. And I'm hard pressed to think of how pricing out all but the limousine crowd could be good city's economy.

Thanks for the updates LL. Please keep 'em coming. IMO there is NO WAY JJ will sell out the new stadium with the PSL's and ticket prices as high as they are. I didn't know that he was going to require PSL's on every seat in the house. Wow! Hopefully the public sends him a message loud and clear and boycotts his extortion attempt and he has to back his prices down. WAY down!

It is funny, MM--it was the solid first five minutes of the Channel 8 10:00 news last night, with a teaser to be the first five minutes of tonight's news as well. I don't know why the Belo Empire has decided to declare war on Jerry, but it looks to have done so.

Oh, and mercifully Brett Shipp decided to take the BlueTooth out of his ear to interview the Cowboys' hapless marketing guy.

I live in Houston and I'm a HUGE Cowboys fan, but unfortunately I don't get this kind of news down here. Glad channel 8 up there is educating the public on where things stand in reality, and not the fluff that JJ spews out.

I was astonished when I first heard the prices Jerry was wanting to get for the PSLs and tickets, but my first thought was, and remains, that market forces will ultimately drive the final ticket prices. I originally had a hard time believing he could get THAT much money for THAT many seats, and my doubts have, at least to this point, been proven correct.

Jerry will ultimately sell the seats for whatever he can get for them to achieve 80-90% or better advance sales. I don't see any reason why he's going ultimately get much more than any of the other NFL teams get for comparable sales.

As a Cowboys fan, I would love to see the prices get down to a level that I can afford - if tickets can be easily scalped at or below current face prices at Texas Stadium, I find it hard to believe I won't be able to attend Cowboys' games in Arlington - at least after the initial 'wow factor' of the stadium wears off - for prices not much higher than they are now.

As a taxpayer, to personally witness what the stadium has replaced and the planned and projected development around the stadium, I am more convinced now that I was when I voted in favor of the project that we did the right thing. I estimate my family's monthly cost of helping fund the stadium construction runs around $5-7.50 per month - more than worth it to me.

I recently toured the stadium. It's going to be fantastic. Too bad (for me) it's in Arlington.

Couple of things:
-LL, there are a lot of $16,000 PSLs between the goal lines. Your 32,000 minimum is incorrect.

-Believe it or not, I think they're going to sell out the $150,000 PSLs pretty easily.

-Ship's sales total was wrong according to what I'm hearing. They were ahead of their sales goal as of the end of January. Given that it's been just a little over 2 months since they announced the prices, I think sales are going okay; however, since this is the period during which existing ticketholders have exclusive rights to buy and they haven't sold that many, I'd be worried as it indicates many longtime ticketholders aren't buying. We'll see what happens when they open up club sales to new buyers in the next few days. They still don't play there for another 1.5 years.

-I'm glad Ship admitted the second night (since I don't think he did the first) that WFAA bought a lot of PSLs.

-The first level of the stadium is pretty flat, meaning those seats aren't going to be as close to the action as at Texas Stadium. Then again it's hard to gain perspective before it's finished.

-The suites are just amazing.

-I'm not trying to convince anyone this is a great deal for the fans.

I agree that the suites are the key from the owners' perspective. But I don't see how the $150,000 PSLs are cannibalizing suite sales since all of the best suites are long gone. In my opinion, the suites are the best deal out there if you have the money. Ship only mentioned what "our sales department" bought (just watched the video again). I will bet that did not include all of Belo.

here's an article that paints a much different picture of how sales are going:The Link

Also, as I suspected, it states that the 12 seat options referenced by Shipp referred only to WFAA; the article states Belo bought more on top of that.

I'll do you one better, AFF--the Observer reports that suite sales are going so well that Jerry is considering the possibility of ripping out a bunch of seats and adding 25% more suites (an additional 100 suites on top of the 400 already in the plan). Personally, I don't know why he doesn't just cut to the chase and make an all-suite stadium.

Hey, I have no personal gripe with Jerry. If he has rightly measured the market, then good for him. He obviously thinks there are more dumbasses with too much money and more corporations with not enough shareholder oversight than I do. And he's the only one of us that has put his money on the line based on his market analysis.

But I do think this illustrates once again why this would be a ****** stadium for a college game and why Texas-OU should never consider moving to JerryWorld. Outside of that issue, my interest is purely academic, since I'll never step foot in the joint to watch a Cowboys game.

Instead, I'll be jetting off to New York to watch the defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants in their home stadium. And I'll probably be doing it for roughly the same price as a trip to Arlington to watch a team that hasn't won a playoff game in half a generation.

LL, I'm struggling with how a flatter lower bowl is better for suite sight lines but harms the views of the club seats, which are in front of the suites on each level and thus closer to the field. I understand suites are a little higher, but isn't that offset to a large degree by being farther away? When I toured the stadium it seemed to me that club seats had better views than the suites. Or are you talking about the non-club seats? I'm not trying to be obtuse here, just trying to figure it out.

It was actually Unfair Park (love that site) that turned me on to the Star Telegram article. I'm trying to figure out where the truth really lies in terms of sales since we have such conflicting stories.

No--you're right. I think the club seats will be fine. But there are only a handful of those. The lower bowl is going to suck because of the shallow incline, and the upper deck appears to be above the scoreboard, which is advertised as being 10 stories above the playing surface.

It's difficult to piece together the truth, as you say. But putting together the Channel 8 report that nobody's buying those club seats with the Unfair Park report that the suites are going fast and furious, it sounds as though Jerry may be tinkering with the idea of ripping out a bunch of the club seats in favor of another row of suites. Of course, that's just conjecture on my part.

LL, I can't imagine how much a ticket/suite/club will cost in the new Jets/Giants stadium. It's freaking New York for crying out loud. Better hurry and get your roadie in within the next two or three years before the new joint in NY opens up.

The NFL is pricing itself out of the average fan's budget. What's scary is J. Jones is possibly starting a trend that could filter down to other teams as well. Scary.

not what FANS want, but rather what the corporates and those who can afford it want. This doesn't necessarily mean fans.

My family has had seats at Texas Stadium since the inception. A couple of my family members went out to the sales office to check it out and sent me a prospectus.

A couple of points on the pitch:

• My understanding is you are personally liable for the 30 year note on the PSL, that is if you do not pay cash and agree to finance at 8%. Plus, you are certain to get a raise in the PSL at the end of the term.
• The $340 dollar price for the tickets is extreme. Today, we have a hard time getting above face for 45 yardline tickets except for marquee games (Green Bay, NE, which ever NE East team is hot). So the remaining seven games (counting pre-season) you cannot get value on the resell market. At $340 – that is $1400 dollars for us with parking to see Seattle, Phoenix or Tampa Bay.
• There is no guarantee (that I could see on the contract) that stated that tickets prices could not rise at will. So my minimum is $340 a seat and going north from there.
• By my calculation – for four seats our family was on the hook for over $1,000,000 over 30 years ($150,000 for 45 yardline ($600K for four), $340 a ticket of ten weeks ($13,000+ a year) for 30 years. I have better things to do with $1million bucks than watch Jerry in his 30,000 sq. ft. box.

So:
• We will likely pass – as I would rather throw in with Texas, the DKR experience, Texas/OU, and the ease of going to away games.
• We will catch the Cowboys on the secondary market where there will be PLENTY of opportunities to pick-up quality seats.

One final note, be thankful for Texas/OU at the Cotton Bowl – where you are on top of the action, every seat has good sight lines (except the low endzone), and it is all about the game. Those experiences are becoming few and far between.

And, acccording to Channel 8, Jerry's 30,000 sq.ft. suite has a personal elevator that goes directly down to . . .

Wait for it . . .

THE FIELD!
