Jamal Charles not getting enough respect

At one point pretty late in the season, McFadden had more fumbles per carry than Charles did, and not by a small margin. Most of those were recovered by Arkansas, though. I don't know how things turned out in the end.

if jamaal holds onto the ball as well as he did in college, he may not make a roster in the NFL, they don't put up with fumbles in the NFL.

Jamaal had what, 4 fumbles lost last season? I mean, sure he had problems at times, but he seemed to recover nicely the rest of the season. His fumbles were memorable last season, but given his carries, 4 fumbles isn't that bad.

Jamal's fumbles are only remembered more than Selvin's fumbles when reading posts about him being under-estimated and insinuating he should be a top draft choice. Selvin was not even drafted, probably partly because of his fumble problems that you mention. I think your point actually supports the argument that Jamal may not be as hot an NFL prospect as he, and all of us Orangebloods hope he is.

As far as the poster who mentioned his quickness, I don't agree as I think he is not only fast, but pretty quick too. I think he has some deficiencies, but I don't think that is one of them.

RE: "Don’t get your hopes up for a 4.29, that is borderline ridiculous. "

Yea, Im intersted to see what he runs at the combine if indeed he does. A year or two ago Wisconsin's RB was the Big Ten 100M sprint champ and ran like a 4.6 or something. I wouldnt be shock to see Charles run 4.40+.

being that i'm a longhorns fan, i will be ecstatic if in a few years i'm on here talking about what a stud jamaal is in the nfl. i hope that is the case. i don't htink it will be, but i hope so.

Yeah, and I guess Shaq fell in the draft because he couldn't hit free throws (I know he went #1). That may not be the best analogy, but as the poster above said, fumbles are correctable with coaching. And he did not have a ton of fumbles last year in relation to other top backs. He'll get drafted high because he has blazing speed, very good moves in traffic, can catch the ball out of the backfield, and is a game breaker. Wait til you see what he does in an offense that takes advantages of his skill set. That was certainly not the case at Texas.

John McClain said on 610 today that the most respected scout in the business has Jamaal ranked right behind McFadden. He says Jamaal will have a lot of momentum after the combine and could solidify himself as a first round pick. He thinks he is no worse than a 2nd round pick right now and will not fall unless he falls apart at the combine.

PS. Some combine threads on other sites have Jamaal Charles combine measured height and weight at 5'11" and 200 lbs. I can't find NFL.com or other links to back that up.

To the SUPERFAN:
Before I destroy the following quote, I'd like to say IMO, Mike Hart is a better prospect than both DMac and JC. And, that I am a JC fan and hope he does go high in the draft. Also, I can't believe I am arguing against him, but I did learn something while getting this info.
In reply to:

oh, and FTR, if JC gets the same # of carries as McFadden (258 for JC, 325 for DMac, a difference of 67 carries) he's over 2K yds. Hell even if JC's YPC went down to to 5.75 for those carries he'd be over.

Mike Hart over Darren McFadden or Jamaal Charles?

Uhhh . . . no. I like Hart, and admired the way he ran in college, but I don't see him being very effective in the pros.

Don, maybe you missed it, but I've already stated that I think DMAC is better... it's just that the same arguments that apply to JC apply to DMAC...

PS, I also addressed the fact that his YPC might have dropped. He could lose nearly .5 YPC on those 67 carries and still have gotten to 2K.

If his YPC went down to 5.5 on those extra 67 carries he'd be at 1987 yds for the season, and methinks Mack would have done everything to get him those extra 13 yds.
