Its Sarah Palin

She is a heartbeat away from the Presidency if elected.

She was chosen purely from internal polling data in the hope of peeling some of the Clinton women's vote. her main qualification?

no penis.

She will however shore up the far religious right base, but what does this do to McCain's independent vote? Will her very conservative views sway independents one way or the other?

Does this highlight McCain's age?

Interesting choice, it will be interesting to see how she comes out of the gate. I think the McCain camp saw the writing on the wal in that even after tossing everything at Obama he hasn't been able to do much in the polls rather than come to even. She's nice to look at and if she can talk and kick *** early she might be of some help. HOWEVER I think this really makes it difficult for McCain to focus on Obama's lack of experience. I guess the play is that the internal polling data showed no other choice.

WHen comapred to joe Biden she's a lightweight. HOWEVER that may be the plan to make expectations so low for her that as long as she doesn't crater she wins by not getting hammered even if she loses.

how ******* hilarious is it people mention Obamabots yet repubs are on here talking like this is game...set...match all over McCain picking a total unknown whose views on abortion are not going to be endearing to the Hillary people

This totally takes McCain's experience and judgment off the table as the guy just used his biggest decision outside of the presidency to pick a total unknown with no experience to be one heartbeat from being POTUS

Roma- I think you are completely dead *** wrong.

I don't think any GOP ers on here are near as lockstep as the Obamaites. There is all sorts of bitching and moaning about all sorts of things done by the republicans.

I know if he would have nominated Hutchison, Leiberman, Romney I would not have been happy (b/c Romney would have been disingenuous, not bad as a choice- I hate that).

I know little to nothing about this woman other than the wiki bio that got posted. She seems like a remarkable woman.

It is an interesting pick. It's a risky pick. I question whether she is really the most qualified GOP VP choice out there, however.

It couldn't be a brilliant move to WIN the election, but a disasterous one if McCain doesn't make it through a first term.

Wow, so many unknowns on this one, I have NO idea how this is going to play out.

and also i look forward to at least looking into more of what she's about rather than slamming her (obama people) and championing her (mccain people).

This was a good move, will take some air out of the sails of that highly produced spectacle Obama read through last night.

I think people are really overestimating the pro-life/pro-choice impact among women. The most important issues to women are always: the economy, health care, education, and national defense. Abortion almost never breaks single digits, much less 5%. It's important to those far to the left and right, but I think it's naive to think undecided women will be frightened away by a pro-life woman who, at least for now, is very intriguing.

hahaha love it...

My scorecard on her:

(+)
Energy policy
Govt reform

(-)
Experience (particularly foreign policy)

(neither + nor -)
Female, pro lifer

McCain significantly covers her weaknesses and she complements the maverick/reform govt image. Good pick.

To those concerned about her being next in line for the presidency? To that I would remind all that Nancy Pelosi is two bullets away. Nancy. Pelosi.

I can't decide if McCain is desperate or throwing in the towel with this decison. If it's to steal Obama's thunder from last night, that'll work for about a 24 hour news cycle and then the wad has been shot. Frankly, as an Obama supporter, I'm relieved it's not Romney.

GM - how many times in the history of the country has the speaker become president? how many times has the VP become president?

not to mention that pelosi is 2 heartbeats away no matter who we elect...so that's a non-starter.

[sarcasm]Brillant pick.[sarcasm]

I have thought all along he would pick a woman. I just never thought about this woman. The unfortunate thing is that this election is going to probably be based more on race and sex than policy.

I still give Obama 3 chances in 5 to win. THERE ARE JUST TOO MANY DUMB ASSES WHO WILL VOTE FOR SOMEONE WHO LOOKS LIKE THEM. (AND IT DOESN'T HURT THAT SHE'S HOT) IDIOTS!

McCain just secured a large chunk of undecided women, any sportsmen (and women) that were not already McCain backers, and every single NASCAR fan in AMERICA.

I will give McCain credit for one thing. He just stole many of the headlines from Obama! The day after the Dem convention. Very good tactitian!!!!!!!!!

HOWEVER, SHE SHOULD NOT BE ON THE LIST OF THE TOP 500 PEOPLE WHO ARE QUALIFIED TO BE POTUS OR VPOTUS.

The most important consideration when choosing a VP is their readiness to be POTUS....He may as well of chosen Laura Miller. This is hilarious, thank you John

Huck-

Just what she read. Loved the family side with a kid in the military and a down syndrome baby that she said was perfect. That really spoke to her about her character and she said something about rubber meeting road etc and so forth.

Knows no more about her than any non-alaskan does I would venture but loves the symbolic nature of it and loves the family backstory.
