Is Kobe really better than Jordan?

You could probably save yourself a lot of time by just referencing your above posts since they pretty much say the exact same thing. Especially since your pleas don't seem to be swaying anyone.

I think looking at only stats can sometimes be misleading. For instance, I don't care what the numbers say, Kobe is more than "1%" better at shooting the 3. I'd far and away trust what Phil Jackson has to say before I just looked at a bunch of numbers and came up with a conclusion.

Jordan was hyped up on defense just as much as Kobe is...people are just so in love with him that they choose to ignore it. Let's be honest, they both get/got away with a lot of ****.

That said, I'm not here to say Kobe is better than Jordan or anything, but I think he's better than what a lot of haters around here give him credit for.

eflow, if you'll reread my post, you'll see that I stated several times that MJ is the far superior player. I agree he is the greatest basketball player of all time.

I simply have the opinion that Kobe's basketball skills are better than Jordan's. And when I say "outside shooting," I mean from 18 feet out. Outside shooting has nothing to do with overall FG% and Jordan's fadeaway jumper.

Kobe's career 3-pt percentage is 34.0 and MJ's is 32.7, but 3s are a big part of Kobe's game and Jordan was only an occasional 3-pt. shooter. (Kobe takes almost 2 more 3-pt attempts per game than Jordan did). Jordan was known as a poor 3-point shooter, which is why his 6 3-pt game against Portland in the finals got so much attention. He looked over and shrugged at Magic because HE WAS NORMALLY A TERRIBLE THREE POINT SHOOTER.

But I'm not trying to say Kobe's a better player, never did. I said I'd love to watch a 1-on-1 game between the two at the peak of their powers, because I think Kobe is MJ's equal on pure basketball skills. THat's all.

I know this is my first post, so my opinion may be taken lightly. I’ll start by saying Jordan is easily the best. He’s so good that I usually spend one night every couple of months drinking and watching Come Fly With Me, Air Time, and Jordan to the Max. I’m not a Kobe fan, although I don’t think I hate him as much as most.

That said, both can score at will any given night. I think they both had a season where they actually tried to do just that. Jordan came away with a 37.1 ppg average, and Kobe posted a 35.4 ppg average. Neither is too shabby.

I do think Kobe has a better outside shot. Drew, I like your 18 foot mark. Kobe is better outside of 18, both are good from 12 to 18, and Jordan is way better from 12 and in. I don’t think field goal percentage is a real good measuring stick for who can shoot better. Shaq’s career number is somewhere around 58%, and he couldn’t hit a thing from outside 7 feet. Players that play closer to the basket have a higher field goal percentage. When Jordan was young he would take it to the hoop and dunk on anything that moved. When he came back from his break, he had one of the best post games ever (not just gaurds, ever. Something Kobe lacks). I think that accounts for the better shooting percentage and is also the reason he’s just plan better on O.

Kobe has phenomenal skills, he’s just mental. Can anyone imagine Jordan taking no shots (or one, or however few it was) in the second half of a game seven just to prove a point. Kobe would rather lose a game seven to prove a bitchy little point than win. Unheard of with Jordan. I never thought the Bulls would lose a game seven when Jordan took the court.

Defensively, Kobe can play outside D with the best of them when he wants to, but so should most players that are that athletic, it’s a matter of heart. Jordan never let down. Kobe can’t muscle up with guys like Jordan could, and he certainly couldn’t block shots or board like Jordan. Round two, Jordan.

Sorry for the length of this post, but I figured I’d get that all out in my first. Oh yeah, Jordan's the best and OU still sucks.

Anyone that thinks Kobe is better is ... [multiple choice]
A. A sexual deviant.
B. A Lakers fan.
C. Blind in one eye and can't see out of the other.
D. All of the above.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....

Oh wait, someone was serious when they said Kobe was better than His Airness. Well they have medication for that. I hope that poor sould can get the help he or she needs.

let me say that when I started this thread it was because numerous sportscasters and analysts were saying Kobe had reached "jordan's level". In fact, van gundy said before game 1 on the finals that kobe was better.

With that bein said, van gundy is a ******* idiot and is totally wrong. Kobe just got done proving on the biggest stage in the sport that he is NOT as good nor will he ever be as good as Jordan. **** all the stats comparisons, to me it's about the other qualities jordan brought. Kobe doesn't come close on any of the intangibles, no matter how much the media wishes that he did. I don't hate kobe as a player. He is a very good player. I hate the fact that fans and media think he is in the same level as jordan. I agree that it's unfair to kobe, but it's also unfair to MJ. He was and is the greatest to ever play. Let's not lower that level of greatness by comparing him to a guy with half the championships (and all those coming while playing along side the most dominant post player of all time) no finals mvp's and only one regular season mvp....

After the announcement today, Kobe is now one of my favorite players until after the Olympics!!

Now if he doesn't help bring home the gold then I will be very upset.

Remember the "Jordan rules" defense?

How freaking revolutionary that was?

How could you forget, that is all the announcers talked about every night.

Guess what, Kobe faces a much more advanced version of that nightly against more skilled players.

Yes I did, I realize that he is the "best ever"....but I am only discussing individual skills with the ball...I believe that Kobe has surpassed even the great MJ in that regard.

IMO if he would have brought this type of game into the NBA twenty years ago and Micheal was doing it now, peoples opinions would be reversed.

Again, just basketball skills, not "will to win" or "great citizen (which MJ doesn't hold up to much scrutiny there either) or anything with in the team concept....just what the guy can do with the ball.
