is Arkansas 2008 really a threat?

I remember in 2003 many people (including several people on this board) saying we would mudhole them...We took them lightly and they proceeded to bitchslap us.

To answer the OP's question: Yes. They are a threat. This will be their Super Bowl.
 
Bobby Petrino has no ties to Arkansas, Texas, or even the SWC. It's a non-conference game. No matter what Arkansas fans think, Petrino won't emphasize the game the way Houston Nutt did, as Nutt played both football and basketball for Arkansas (and Oklahoma State as well).
 
It's hard to say just yet if they'll be a threat. They shouldn't be but it is in that hog pen in arkansas. Also, the DC that couldn't stop Missouri will be gone to aggy. So, they could be better on defense, or not, depending on their next DC. The ones that remember the SWC days know they'll be breathing fire when they see the Burnt Orange.

For the next two or three years there shouldn't be any threat to UT during the regular season (if there is a coordinator change) other than ou.
 
wasn't the arkie cotton bowl the one where major got hurt and went on to lose his starting job the next year? yeah, that game sucked and I was hung over as ****.

and yes, they will bring it when we play them and I don't think we will just be able to "out talent" them. Hopefully we'll have a new defensive "philosophy" by then.

Did anyone see the Petrino interview during the Cotton Bowl? He came right out and said the thing that many posters have alluded to: for Arkansas to be successful, they have to successfully recruit Texas. By scheduling the Longhorns, Arkansas increases its profile in Texas. Petrino stated openly that Arkansas will continue to try to schedule as many Texas teams as possible in order to better position themselves to recruit Texas athletes.

Easier said than done, perhaps, but surely there are competitive teams other than Arkansas that we can schedule as non-conference opponents. We used to play Auburn occassionally. We did a home and home with Virginia. Have we ever played Georgia Tech? Wisconsin? Michigan State? There are a lot of schools that are more likely than not to have a winning season should we play them (thereby helping with BCS points) and that would not view the game as their Super Bowl and as an opportunity to invest significant time and resources into recruiting the state of Texas.
 
Yes, unfortuantely one of the 2 bowl victories with 12 bowel losses (pun intended) in the last 14 bowl games by piggie took place over UT in the dreadful 2000 CB. I believe the final score was 27-6. hawgs played like it was for a MNC and Nutt did the Horns down for the camera. Horns played terrible that day, like they didn't want to be there, Kawame, Humphrey and someone else were suspended from the game. Major injured his knee and the next season was the Simms / Major merry-go-round.
 
I enjoy Arkansas losing...

I used to work with one of the DE's from the NC team. He said going to Arkansas was a bad experience. He said something along the lines of battery field marshmellows being thrown at them... Must have been thought up by the Pig Sooey Engineering Dept.

I think it's time UT fans stop asking if team X is a threat or saying we'll beat team X or fill in aggy logic "this is why we win" statements.

Yeah that was kind of a dumb statement by me. It's setting things up for disappointment because any week there can be a Stanford-USC, AppSt.-UM, or another aggy-UT fiasco. I was just thinking that a lot of the parts, with the exception of one, are there for this to be a good team for a couple years. But then they have to play the games so I don't take any of them for granted as it seemed in that statement.
 
Jesus, all of you who are pissing and moaning about scheduling the Hogs, hand in your Texas Man Cards now. What a bunch of chickenshit whining.

I enjoy playing Arkansas and I hope we continue to schedule them and beat the crap out of them, because we should. The notion that our team can't 'get up' for this game is loser talk. They damn well should get up for this game, as they should for Aggy and OU and ever other damn game on the schedule.

Where is your bloodlust? Recruiting exposure, my ***. That's crap. Beat them like we should and they'll be plenty 'exposed'. Winning is what ultimately brings recruits.
 
As of 2007, Texas has one of the worst pass defenses in the country.

Pig will have one of the best passing coaches in the country.

We made Stephen McGee look like Dan Marino.

Without substantial changes on D, I look for those ******** to light us up. Hell yes they are a threat, and unless we get our **** together fast, everyone else that throws the ball is a huge threat to Texas next year.

I'm amazed how some of you guys can get "beaten" by a game that hasn't even been played.

We will not lose to Arkansas next year. There are much bigger threats out there on our schedule.
 
I am with Super. We are Texas. When did we start worrying about Arkie taking what we want? If we are playing and behaving like Texas, we won't have to worry so much about whether we will win against unranked visitors to DKR and whether someone else gets too much incidental exposure by getting @$$whipped on TV by the 'Horns.

Of course the pigs are a threat to upset us. If we come out and give our best game, though, they will leave questioning the wisdom of having scheduled us. That needs to be our attitude.
 
It's going to be a NEW season, NEW coaching changes, NEW Mack, etc... Some of y'all need to wake up and realize the changes that have ALREADY been made. Do you really think that Mack wants to lose? I look forward to significant changes made. Mack has already stated that he isn't redshirting anyone and will play whoever will help the team to win. So on that note.... yeah... they may be a threat, but I have confidence in Mack to pull out the W!
