is Arkansas 2008 really a threat?

now that McFadden appears to be gone, is there any aspect of their taem which impresses you enough to believe they will beat Texas? There is no equivalent of Matt Jones, they don't have a great defense (do they?), they can't really stop the pass or the run (see 250+yards by 1 guy). How did they beat LSU? hmm.. maybe tOSU will win..
No McFadden , nothing close to him or Trevor Cobb (??) either.

any fresh upstarts which may give Texas trouble?

I am not worring about 2008 like so many of you are.

If McFadden leaves (which I expect him to), Texas should be fine. I would keep an eye on Arkansas RB Felix Jones, though. He's led the nation in yards per carry this year, IIRC.

It's an old rivalry. Despite the drop-off in talent, you better believe they will show up motivated to play us. They always do.

If we show up and maintain focusness (thanks Bill in Sinton!), we should be fine. If not, see Aggy and K-State 2006 and 2007.

as much of a threat as Arkie state, UCF, KSU, a&m, nebraska, etc.

i don't worry about other teams on our schedule. i worry about us. if we play up to our potential, the above teams don't get within 25 of us.

No. Neither was K-state or A&M the last two years. You can't believe how bad Arkansas still hates us.

In one word....

No.

Bobby Petrino is simply a mercenary. He's Arkansas version of Bill Callahan. He doesn't have the outright passion that Houston Nutt and Matt Jones carried against Texas. Nor will he have a stud running back like McFadden.

Texas should win that game. Now the game you really ought to be worried about is Missouri. You don't get that pass defense fixed, you'll lose that game.

Yes, I think they are a threat as they always are. That rivalry seems to mean more to their fans, coaches and players than it does to ours. It got the teams attention when they came in and whipped our butts and ripped out or endzone turf in our own stadium. The team focused and went up there and won a close game.

So depending on the mentality of this team, the fire and tenacity of all concerned, yes, they are a threat. At this time we don't have a leader or personality close to that which VY brought to the table for the players to rally behind. Who knows, we may by then and players will realize the hatred that is on the other side of the ball.

But I don't take this game lightly. I don't know there is a team or fanbase that hates us more than arky. We have a more equal dislike/rivalry with ou but I don't know that ou hates us the way that arky does. Shoot, they just hate the entire state of Texas.

Focus on who their coach IS, not who it WAS. Houston Nutt played at Arkansas under Broyles. He understood that he had to win the Texas game as an Arkansas player and coach, that the old Arkansas fans still treat Texas as if they were still in the Southwest Conference.

I'm telling you, Petrino has never been in Arkansas as a coach, and as far as I know has no ties to how their program operates. He is a mercenary who will not understand the magnitude of the Texas game to the old Arkansas fans.

Interesting and good point. I am sure that the frothing at the mouth and boncing around on the sidelines had a lot to do with Houston Nutt displaying the Horns down among other douchey things as a douche does.

No, Arkansas is not a threat. But seeing how Mack tells his players the week leading up to the game how close the game is going to be, it's going to be a 4th quarter game, Their coach is a hell of a coach, blah blah blah, it prolly will be close. He needs to have the attitude he did going into the bowl game, and that is, we are going to kick your *** and there's nothing you can do about it.

This is an old and bitter rivalry - especially to the hawgs and their fans. I would prefer they were not on the UT schedule as the Hogs approach the game as their superbowl while the Horns just don't get all that fired up to play. Despite the loss of some talent, trust me arky will come to Austin to play and play hard next fall. Horns cannot take this game lightly.

I didn't think Arkie was a serious threat to us when they came into Austin and rolled out about 3 different game plans en route to mudholing us. They played that game like they'd been preparing for it all summer.... and they probably did.

We should never take piggy lightly.. they want to beat us as bad if not worse than aggy.

I honestly don't know why we schedule them. We have far more to lose than gain by playing those guys.

I call ******** on the belief that Arkansas was the only school that would give Texas a home and home.

Every other big name school plays big name teams out of conference. Do you mean to tell me that they just simply refuse to play Texas?

Bobby Petrino, regardless of character flaws, has regularly fielded some of the top pass offenses in the nation. For the last two years, we've fielded one of the worst pass defenses in the nation.

Arkansas hate for Texas transcends their coaching staff. It is everywhere in that state and they will be motivated regardless of what their coaches rhetoric is because they are Arkansas and we are Texas.

Count on a team that will try to punch us in the mouth, twist ankles in the pile, attack our weak points, and key our cars in the parking lot.

ESPN just pointed out a lovely stat on Arky - they are 2-12 in their last 14 bowl games. That my friends is clearly living in the ND and aggy bowl worthlessness neighborhood

Those inbreds have not forgotten our win over them nearly 40 years ago. They still hate us, and it doesn't matter which douchebag is their current HC. We had better be ready because as long as we have morons putting them on the schedule, we will have our hands full. That's jmo but if you disagree, I suggest you get a clue.
