Indiana vs. Texas

Unfortunately, there just isn’t the offense of the last two years to make up for errors and less than stellar pitching. Todays pitching wasn’t bad overall and usually only giving up four runs on a Sunday when you are facing the other teams third pitcher should be a recipe for a win but this year that may not always be the case. Horns had to win this series and they did but sweep sure would have been nice. Next four with LSU and the Fullerton on the road will be very tough and 2-2 or better needs to be goal.

Fielding will get better, so will hitting and pitching. A little improvement in all 3 goes a long way. 3-1 for the last 4 games. We will be tough to beat by tourney time.

Hopefully some of the batters who are in an early season slump can break out of it soon: O’Dowd, Flores, Thomas. If the poor hitting keeps up we might see something like:

C. Guilliamette
1st Belyeu or Powell
2nd Daly
SS Young DuPlantier
3rd Carlson
LF Brown
CF Kennedy
RF Campbell
DH Belyeu or Powell

It’s still early, and I think those guys can break out of their slumps. But if you’re not batting around 0.250 or better come conference play, expect to be replaced in the lineup.

On a bright note, Daly is batting like he did 2 years ago. Kennedy is not disappointing. Guilliamette is a big boost to our lineup. And Brown is hitting like an all-star. Campbell isn’t bashing it out of the park, but he’s getting on base and making sac flies and bunts.

Hurley looked good.

Aside from his first pitch, Stewart looked pretty good.

Sthele looked good, but Coach kept him out there too long.

With young teams everything is contagious on offense - strikeouts, groundouts, pop up’s, but on the flip side, so are hits and homers. Your team is working thru the group offensive slump in February, not April/May…that’s a good thing.

Hurley was impressive. Sthele was very good for 5 innings and then not. Should have been pulled about two batters sooner in my opinion. All runs scored with two outs so I guess they were hoping he could get that final out. All the outs on the base paths are momentum killers and very frustrating. Could be in a big hole after the Fullerton series

Have to stop the base running brainfarts.

Everyone mentioning the base running brain farts, those could be on the coach for sending them, not the players.

Kudos to Stehle, Stuart and Hurley, I was able to watch the game today, they performed well and pitches looked good to me. Tole is still allowing too many hits and he was pulled early as a result.

Defense was fine, J Thomas will learn from that one but I have seen many wide throws to first. Pitchers need to get their errors under control, way too many from that group.

Lots of work to do and thankfully it's a long season. On to LSU. :hookem:

I'm quite pleased with the performance of our pitching staff thus far in the year.

The bats need to get a lot hotter--especially the bottom half of the lineup (and esp. the infield corners + 2B). I think those guys have it in them, they've just been slumping. If it continues too much longer, it may be time to try out some of the other players.

We knew we wouldn't have the ridiculous offense we had last year. But I at least want an average offense. With this pitching staff, just an average offense would put us in contention for the conference title and a regional host.
