I'm happy for Kevin Garnett

When Garnett came out and he was 18 years old I was pretty skeptical of him and to be honest some of my reasons were based on stereotype. Since he's been in the league he's done nothing but work his *** off and I think he plays with a really awesome edge. He really busts his *** on the defensive end of the floor and has one of the more consistent games in the league. He's never really bitched a whole lot about Minn and how awful a franchise that is.

When he got traded to Bos, he immediately went to Fenway and threw out the 1st pitch. Whether someone told him to or not he knew that was one way to win over the city's support. I'm glad he won a title and I think he's a pretty awesome talent. Congrats to him for being a champ.

Congrats on the title, but history is not going to look favorably on KG. His finals performance outside of the first half of game 1 and the blowout last night did a ton of damage to his legacy. Before, he was always a great player who couldn't win because he had ****** teammates. Now, he's great player who needed better players (than him) around him to get him over the top. He's going to go down as Paul Pierce's second banana and a frontrunner. And make no mistake, Pierce was by far and away the C's best player.

The notion that if he and Duncan switched franchises, then he would be the one with rings seems pretty laughable now. The reason he couldn't advance in the playoffs with Minny had more to do with his own shortcomings (lack of clutch play, settling for jumpshots and fadeaways and not getting to the FT line) than his teammates. KG couldn't carry them -- he needed someone to carry him. Still, he's a great player and an unbelievable sidekick, but he's never going to be considered one of the all-time greats.

I have always liked the guy, but his post game interview reminded me why pro sports is so ******. He acted as if God had just graced the world by giving him a championship. And the yelling at the camera "what?" over and over again was pretty lame.

We create these spoiled athletes who act like they have a permanent chip on their shoulder, as if life is hard for them. Its the old "I will make every team who passed me in the draft pay" type of attitude and KG's post game interview sure felt similar.

I'm not even talking about the stats.... KG continually came up short at the biggest moments in this series. He shrank in the clutch and only played well when his team was ahead. Fortunately for him, it didn't matter because Pierce carried them. You guys must've watched a different series than I did. Pierce was incredible. He was far and away the Celtics best player. He's been their best player all season. And you want to talk defense? Did you see the job Pierce did on Kobe?

And I'm not saying that Garnett isn't a great player, he is. But he's never going to be remembered in the same way as the all-time greats because he's not the best player on a championship team -- the workhorse who the whole team rides to a ring. In short, he's a Pippen and not a Jordan. There's nothing wrong with that. Pippen was awesome, too.

You're right...uncalled for on my part.

Still, "by far and away the Celtics best player" is a huge stretch. He averaged a whopping 3.5 points more per game, since you seem to think points are all that matter. He didn't even shoot much better from the field, and I know for sure there was at least one game where KG was hitting clutch buckets down the stretch.

You need to look at the big picture. This team won because of their team defense...nobody will argue that. I said on another post that this was the most collective effort I've seen to win a championship...it makes no sense to single guy out as much better than the others.

Thinking that Pierce shut down Kobe on his own is crazy. He didn't even spend most of the time guarding him. Without the help behind him, Kobe does to Pierce what he does to everyone else. Nothing you say will convince me otherwise.

Best player and "far and away the best player" are two different things. Pierce and Allen and Garnett all did a great job on defense. Pierce was the best on offense of the three, so sure, he was the best overall, but it was close. Heck, in three home games, Rondo was right up there with the Big Three in terms of how well he was playing.

His post-game interview was redonkulous. He clearly has a hard time keeping his cool, which is probably the biggest difference between he and Duncan (and why Duncan could really carry a team and why Garnett never could).

First of all, you cannot even say that Pierce is better than Garnett because they are two different players with two different styles and play different positions. No doubt that Pierce is the leader of the team, but Garnett is just as good as Pierce in his own way. Also Garnett has won an MVP trophy which Pierce hasn't and probably will not achieve in his career. Also you say that he would'nt go down as an all-time great if he didn't have a ring????? You could've compared him to another 4 man(not saying he is as good but comparable) who has not won an NBA championship who is definitely an all-time great and has been on more talented teams than Garnett has in Boston......Karl Malone

The giant number of people who talk out their *** on this site is the reason I rarely post any more. KG's legacy tarnished by winning the Finals? Jesus Christ some of you people are morons.

I was waiting for more of your nuclear nonsense.

Take KG off the team, and they lose to the Hawks also. Nice try though.

KG plays defense, Dirk doesn't. Defense won the Celtics this championship, and he was the anchor.

How is Pierce's 21 and 6 so much better than 18 and 13?

FYI, KG scored more points and had more rebounds than Pierce over the entire playoffs. You should quit trying to make it sound like Pierce carried them all the way. What the hell would you bring up Dirk for anyway? Still bitter about the media? Let it go.

How can anyone slight KG? He was the galvanizing force behind the Celtics this year. Yes, he did have two very bad games in this series, but he had 2 pretty good games and two great games. Heck, even Pierce had a horrible game during the series. I would even venture to say that the Celtics nor the Lakers had that great of games with exception of Game 6. This was not that great of a series basketball-wise.

Furthermore, KG is a very intense guy and it was unfair to him to try and interview him so quickly. intense guys like that have trouble ratcheting it down. KG has been a good teammate and team guy his whole career. He had to be talked into leaving a team that was going nowhere. He is ultra competitive wants to win so this is the crown of his life. I am happy for him.

To say this series tarnished his legacy is ridiculous.

I liked KG until his celebration last night. Give me a break! The dude looked like he had never won anything in his whole life.

Oh wait. That's probably because he never has.

You would never have seen Tim Duncan, Shaquille O'Neal, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and on and on...act like he did.

I now officially despise the Celtics. It looked like a 10th grade "rap" party going on. Have some class, Celtics!

I completely agree with the above poster. I mean, I cannot believe those guys celebrated. Over a championship? Classless. Take the thug party somewhere else Celtics!

They should have taken a cue from Duncan, Shaq, Larry, Johnson...simply smile, walk off the court, refrain from being happy. Geez!

Celebrating over achieving a lifetime goal which you've worked so hard for is now considered poor form?
