If you love to eat, what city would do it for you?

Have to agree with Brussels on the previously referenced list; they really take their food seriously in that city. Not sure that Buenos Aires makes the list overall, but their steak is on a level all its own.

On a related note, Cincinnati has the worst food of any place I have lived. Lot's of good things about the area, but not the food...and the chili is unspeakable.

"Houston blows Dallas away in Italian, seafood & high-end "continental" menus."

According to the Mobil Travel Guide, Houston has one four star restaurant - Quattro. Dallas has four four star restaurants - Abacus, Nana, Stephan Pyles and The French Room. Neither city has a five star restaurant.

Rex, I'm glad to know that you are more authoritative than the Mobil Travel Guide on rating fine dining establishments. I'm sure Mark's and Tony's have your rating prominently displayed.

"Abacus is the epitome of a place that I hate about Dallas."

You can have your opinion, but a long-respected rating such as Mobil with no Dallas / Houston bias is more authoritiative than the opinion of someone with anti-Dallas axe to grind. Dallas has more nationally-recognized high end restaurants than Houston.

Orange Chipper: I agree. Pound for pound, New Orleans wins this going away. Some of the meals I have had there have been the best I've ever had.

well the real list only goes up to 3 stars.

If I would choose and money was no object it would be:

London
NYC
Paris

If money does matter it would be

NYC
London
Paris

At the high end London is better than Paris and New York. French food has not progressed lately and London has many great French chef's anyway. London has a much greater diversity of fare as well. London has very few 'middle restaurants' where 2 can eat for 150 or so, New York has loads. London wins at the low end with pub and gastropub food but New York competes.

The Fat Duck London is the best I believe I've eaten at other than the Chevre D'or in Eze. Chevre D'or is only 2 star but still I had a geat meal. Gordon Ramsey is sublime too.

The Robuchon in Macau is also up there.

I had a fantastic meal at Per Se recently in New York.

Houston as a choice for best in worls is ho ho ho laughable although they have good food.

Tokyo is amazing too but with less variety.

A great place to try in Beijing is "the Source" - not too expensive either.

Hong Kong has it's wonderful delights too but mostly local cuisine dominates so it can't get to the top - Try Man Wah for the Peking Duck then try the China club for it's version.

Note I am not dissing San Fran I just haven't eaten there much (every time has been great though)
