Crazy. Thats why it's important to keep trees trimmed near power lines. Some is the responsibility of home owner, other times (can't speak for all utilizes) have tree trimming contractors where limbs have grown too close to the lines.

Looks like the Austin area really caught the brunt of the storm. Not quite so much here in DFW Metroplex, and we're getting a good thaw today.

Don Lemon told me yesterday he isn’t surprised Texas is having problems with their known neglect of infrastructure.

30k in Round Rock areas? Round Rock only has 100k residents. That doesn't sound right at all.

What doesn't sound right about it? 30% of Round Rock out of power at some point seems pretty believable to me.

Very important to keep trees trimmed, especially near power lines.

Trying telling that to Austin Energy. Or, to be fair, to all the condos, apt complexs, enviro orgs, community groups, and homeowners associations who moan and complain whenever they actually do get around to trying to get the branches out of the wires, both screwing themselves and tons of other people who had no choice in the matter over in the process.

The comment was at a specific point in time not "at some point". At the time, I was hearing things from Round Rock and Austin. Sounded like Austin was having a much worse go of it that Round Rock. As time went on up until Thursday morning Round Rock had more issues. I think 30% over the whole weather event being effected for some time is believable. I was without power 6-9am on Thursday morning due to falling limbs. Austin residents who lost power were without it for a much longer time on average than residents of Round Rock.

Austin Energy has a Vegetation Management group. Are ya'll saying they do a poor job, or don't implement? Shame on them if thats true. You're asking for a disaster if you don't trim your trees.

I don't think they emphasize it enough because of the "it probably won't happen" effect, but they also run into a lot of opposition in trying to do it.
