I have grown a spider named Larry

And if he (or she?) lives till the game we will beat OU.

Larry started out as a small web weaving spider faithfully guarding my tomato plants this summer and since I've noticed him I've been feeding him earwigs and stink bugs and he's gotten BIG (like Larry Dibbles).

Since I've been feeding him I've noticed a few things:

1) Every three days or so Larry tears down his web and rebuilds it so it doesn't look like an Arkansas trailer park.

2) He cuts out the bug carcasses after they are sucked dry and drops them so his web is neat and clean.

3) He ******* hates OU.

Whenever I feed him a bug Ill stick the bug in his web and he'll back up a bit (he used to run into the tomato plant but he knows the drill when the big shadow comes = food now after so many feedings.) and pounce on them like a loose football, they never have a chance.

Then he holds perfectly still while he moves his front legs like Larry does his free hand before the snap then BOOM he jump on the bug and annihilates him.

Sometimes if the bug is big he will stare at it for upwards of 30 minutes before he kills it. I named him Larry because when he makes his move it's like a big 'ol DT jumping on a running back trying to come through a nonexistant hole (and because he ******* hates OU)

As the summer draws to a close I realize I'm going to miss Larry after he's gone and I wonder, do spiders die because it gets cold or because they get old?

Because if it's the former I'm going to toss him in a big jug and keep him alive till Oct 9th.

Any ideas? Will taking him inside keep him alive?

We need to beat OU. Then I think Larry can die happy.

I'll post a picture of him when I get home.

Long Live Larry !!!!!

Spiders die because they get eaten alive by their own young, or their mate.

Also in some breeds the female is larger.

You may have yourself a Laura, not a Larry...

dude I was going to put him in a big fishtank and feed him bugs.

What if it freezes before the game and he dies?

WHAT THEN?

The ND car roach thread reminded me of this but there was a time when I thought cold would kill a certain resident spider.

One winter when I lived amongst the tics and critters in NC, I stepped outside in the morning rain to get to my car. I felt a raindrop hit my head as I shut my front door but oddly before I was actually in the rain. 10 minutes later I'm accelerating down the entrance ramp onto the highway and for some reason swept the top of my head. Something rolled under my fingers and landed on my shoulder. As I'm gaining critical speed and looking to merge, I glance down at my shoulder and am looking eye to eye with one of those hairy predatory ground dwelling spiders that don't make webs. The ones that can jump. It looked huge. It was a miracle I didn't roll my vehicle off the ramp as I tried to knock it off.

The thing was loose in my car after that. I was hypervigilant for a couple of weeks. Then it got down in the low 20's for several days. I figured that killed him. Weeks later as I looked in my rear view mirror to change lanes, I spied him dangling in mid air behind me. I was so relieved to find him, and considering the guy was a survivor, I pulled over and just flicked him out.

Hard to say when Larry might pack his bags.

This post scares the **** out of me. No, it's not that I'm afraid of spiders, it's just the sheer coincidence of events that has taken place. This summer I also happened to grow a golden orb weaver in a rose bush. I named him Larry. This is really ******* me up.

Put larry in AP's sock a couple of days before the RRS...nasty spiderbite, AP can't put pressure on his swollen foot, Larry goes to spider heaven for a good cause.

txzen,

Is your fish an hhhhhhalibut?

And did you pick him out of thousands? And were the others all too flat?

Listen he could easily be a she, I dunno.

On a sidenote I just fed him a millipede and he mereley webbed it up, didnt even poison it because he had such a big meal yesterday.

So like the real Larry he's concerned about being at his true fighting weight,

I'm pretty sure he will be having a snack later tonight, I named the millipede Adrian.

It's actually quite balmy tonite so i'm less worried about him freezing to death.

I took some pictures but the flash completely hides him. I'll take some pictures tomorrow after work when we can see him.

Great story.

washparkhorn, great job as well -- the "OU Sucks" is so prominent I at first overlooked Larry's new Longhorn markings.

I checked him this morning and Adrian is a dead shrivled husk and Larry is in fine form.

I get no love for the Stoops head? haha I should see if soonerfans.com will add it to their smilies. The one they have of Mack is hilarious.
