Hudson Card

Ewers is going to be a special player. Hope he heals up soon.

Card showed some real guts and deserves our respect. Also hope he heals up soon.

Wright and Murphy need to get a lot of practice reps these next few weeks. They may need to play.

Murphy will not play this year. He is recovering from an injury. I predict that he will see the transfer portal before he sees playing time at Texas.
Quinn Ewers injury: Texas' star QB out multiple weeks after exiting Alabama game, per reports

from 6 hours ago:

"Depth behind Card
Card began last season as the Texas starting quarterback before ceding the job to Casey Thompson, who transferred to Nebraska for the 2022 season. But should Card's ankle become a lingering issue, or the Longhorns need to go beyond him for any reason, they would be relying on inexperienced options. Wright was a three-star prospect in the Class of 2021 who appeared briefly in the Longhorns' 70-35 win over Texas Tech last year during his redshirt season. The Longhorns also have four-star true freshman Maalik Murphy available as a fourth scholarship option. Murphy finished the 2022 recruiting cycle ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 9 quarterback in the class, according to 247Sports."

College Football World Reacts To Significant Quinn Ewers Injury News
Freshman Maalik Murphy was a four-star prospect but is inexperienced, and redshirt freshman Charles Wright has appeared in only one game in his career.

Reading high ankle sprain which is not good. So you either roll with an immobile Card, you burn Malik's redshirt, you take your chances with Charles Wright, or you roll out the K State gameplan and run the Wild-Roschon.

He can play in up to 4 games before losing his shirt.

Yesterday I watch and began thinking that Hudson Card is this decade's Chase McCoy. Not an insult to either. He's a kid that wants it, and is willing to work to get it. He is more than a "serviceable" QB, and we are damn lucky to have someone that came in yesterday and didn't give the game away.

That said, WHO ON HERE HAS ANY POKE SALAD INT THEIR FEEZER? We will arrange delivery to Austin tomorrow and payment from CDC. If you are a true fan, you can live on Romaine until season.

I may have yelled "get rid of it" a few times as well. But considering the opponent and situation, Card did pretty damn well. I was not at the game but something that was concerning on the limited TV shots...as Card came to the sideline there were few if any teammates rallying around him. Every time he came off, maybe a pat on the helmet but it stood out to me. Again, only limited visibility but it made me wonder if the guys are with him at all.

That's a reach. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary and certainly didn't think the players were treating him differently than they would any other QB. I think at this point we're just looking for things to worry about.

I was petrified when Card trotted in as I had an Arkansas flashback, but boy did he impress - especially since he had visible leg injury. Seems the year on the bench and backup time this season paid off. Hope he gets healthy fast with Quinn out for a month give or take.

Card reportedly has the dreaded “high ankle sprain”. That would sideline a running back or DB for 3-4 weeks. As an immobile Qb, I dunno. He’ll be a sitting duck if he plays.

I also heard Murphy is still recouping and won’t play. That leaves Wright, Roschon, and beyond that, who knows.

I guess our jinx isn’t over yet. Especially when it comes to getting incompetent Big XII officials.

Well, we supposedly have the Hypesman frontrunner with an OL that can allow a hobbled QB to play and hand the ball off 50 times and gain 450 rushing yards.

Card has been in an interesting situation and not necessarily one that allows for growth. He had a short leash last year then played sporadically with his reintroduction at ISU, which is not a great place to get comfortable.

The Arkansas game has not been considered overly objectively in my opinion. We did not run it well. We dropped a few passes. The blocking wasn’t particularly good. There were two offensive drives killed when penalties were ignored by Big 12 refs. One of those was a drive following a TD drive. We ran it on 4th to no avail but that’s not the QB. For a freshman to get pulled after two games and in which the team played poorly is a short leash. Then he played sporadically after that and started to show some comfort versus WVU. Then boom he’s hurt and done again.

I don’t know Cards upside, but his situation hasn’t been ideal for development. Reps generally improves most guys performance and probably more so at QB. Game reps are better than practice reps. Developing a repoire with your pass catchers also is important. Being able to work through failures and build on successes is important for development. To date, he really hasn’t been afforded the opportunity to do either.

I hope he plays and obviously does well. If you can flash, and he has on a few plays, it’s then about repeating those successes. That’s key for anyone.

Somebody get Poke Salad Annie to Austin ASAP!!

Biggest problem for Card last year was the oline couldn't stop the speed rush to save their lives. Looks like that problem has been largely solved. He looks so much better with time to throw.

He still doesn’t anticipate when the line is collapsing and he needs to get rid of the ball.

I'll have to go back and watch again, but on a couple of the Alabama rushes, they hit so fast I don't know that there was a lot he could do. The last sack at the end was an absolute jailbreak, and if he throws it away it's grounding. Sometimes the other team just makes plays.

I noticed twice he turned the wrong way on the fake during a play action.

I would have fallen down when I was hiked the ball.

I noticed that too Pickle. Was quite curious to me because the ‘fake’ handoff was so glaringly off but since I am a big critic on the lousy fakes I generally see all the time I took it as just another issue about which I clinch my teeth.
