Hudson Card

Hook'em
We owe Hudson our respect and appreciation.
He didn't whine sulk or run to portal when he wasn't named starter. He instead practiced and did what Sark asked.
Yesterday while in pain and not knowing what damage he was doing to his ankle he played his heart out for the team and Texas.
His post game interview was pure class
Instead of us saying he should not be the starter
We should say thank you for being a Longhorn.

Completely agree. But I can’t say that I wasn’t yelling at the TV, because I was.

He HAS to develop a clock in his head, and he has to understand that when the starter goes down and in essence he’s “it,” he has to play smart. His injury could probably have been avoided. On that play, he avoided the rush and broke free for a small gain. But instead of sliding or going down, he tried to push through about three defenders on one of the best defenses in the country. He didn’t understand the circumstances and he got hurt.

I want to see the young man succeed. We “need” to have him succeed. But again, he has to play smart and develop that clock in his head.

For any doubters... yesterday made it clear why Ewers was named starter.
Dude looks like will quickly develop into the real deal. Card has more serious limitations but I was proud of his effort...made some bad plays but some good ones too....and he gave it his all. Will be supporting him and rooting for him the next few weeks while anxiously, impatiently, expectantly, hopefully, desperately and prayerfully awaiting QE1s return.

Tip your hat to Card. He played very well with what looked like a more conservative play calling. Pretty sure everyone agrees if Ewers had not gone down, UT wins that one pretty easily(just like when Colt went down in 2009). Texas has got to find a way to keep the QB's healthy. Proud of how the OL played against what I expected to be a monster D. Not sure why either there D is not what I expected or if we just played lights out. Either way it was a great game that we lost on a last second FG. Hookem. Lets hope both QB recover quickly because UTSA is not a gimme game this year. Just ask ND, Nebraska and the gaggies.

By the way, for the first time in memory, the pass blocking was adequate against a really good D front and blitzing LBs.

On the other hand, our run blocking mostly couldn’t move their big bodied D front.

Kudos to Card, he did great considering. Hopeful for a speedy recovery, there is always improvement, i'm pretty sure you know what it is, keep your head up and work hard on improving every day!

Do you think the Oline is improving ?

Obviously.

…not sure if your Q was sarcasm…?
Seems a reasonable question to me....
Trajectory good, depth improved, development looks to be occuring....but still plenty raw and not markedly improved on run blocking especially.
Very poor vs Bama but more disconcerting not very good vs ULM.
Pass blocking improvement a little more noticable.
Nothing crazy, so I personally dont see why any particular answer to 6721's question should be assumed. A fair question in my view...but one I expect to see answered by latter half of season and in a positive fashion.
Ewers ability to for the subtleties within the pocket should not be underestimated.
The line will look worse (pass blocking Im talking) with Card at QB
Just my 2cents...

Card just needs to develope timing with his receivers instead of waiting for them to get open, throw them open , anticipate the cut and throw it.
Whitt. looked good for the most part. I want to see what Hall and b Thompson can do. I would like to see some deep throws to the speedy Thompson. That should scare some DCs. Forget that he is young let him break out.

The problem why Card holds on too long is because an OL or RB blows their block or the WR gets waylaid or pushed off his route. He then looks for another option - sometimes he gets out of the pocket successfully and sometimes not. He needs to stop going for the 10% chance that he can make good on a bad play and just dump it at first sign of trouble.

I agree mc and also think Card may not recognize the defensive alignments quickly enough to pick up coverage and where the open spot is going to be in advance. Maybe he waits a tad too long after optimal to throw the ball because he’s waiting on too good an opening. Just a speculation.

Sark needs to show Card the Seinfeld show where George does everything 180 degree opposite.

Card is still operating in Windows 7 when the defense is on Windows 11. He has to learn to process information much faster or, as others have said, ditch the play.

Card is a class act. He did a great job considering who we played,Offense line play and being injured. It is easy to be critical when those defensive linemen aint runnin at you.

Card doesn’t have to be great. Just get the job done. Do the film study and prepare for the next opponent. Have more confidence and stop pressing.
Oh yeah, stop holding onto the ball too long and fire it into the first row when need be.

Our OL play has been so crummy for so long. Last year we went from atrocious to average. Keeping what may be the nation’s top pass rush in check looks like a clear further improvement to me. Flood looks like he’s getting things done. It’s not there yet, but it’s looking much better.

Yep. Well said. And we’ve got some great players to run safety valve routes in the flats and shallow—both Robinsons, J Whitt, Roschon, etc.

Wait a minute…
You mean most of you folks have upgraded from Windows 7?

Then question is IF Card is ready and can play can he react faster?
If the Oline gives him another second can he use it to find someone and make the throw?
