How to Beat OU?

BJones expected to play. Herman's quote --

“.... on track, meeting with doctors as we speak. Everything is pointing to a return to play around Weds, maybe Thurs at the latest and that’s barring any setbacks.”

Rest of the team has its dings, but nothing that will keep anyone from playing

If Texas brings the offense that scored less than 30 against isu and ku the Horns can not win.

It's like the minimum score on the SAT for just writing your name on the test, Texas scores 30 just by being there. OU is incapable of stopping any offense so it's more up to if we can stop theirs.

In all honestly I think % passes defended would be a better metric.

The ou defense is really bad, no question. But its hard for me to believe that ku's is better. Ou's defense scores so quickly, their defense gets no rest. They have some athletes on D.

I think its more a matter of how well our offense plays. We'll need to score a lot, even if our D plays great.

Our offense played a great three quarters in the first ou game. Sam was really accurate, and the play calling kept ou off balance. I think scoring anything over 40 will be enough to win. Holding ou under 40 will be a defensive win for us.
Sam and the receivers should be healthy enough to make it happen. :hookem2:

We do better against bigger opponents. I think we will see an "all in" Offense. The Defense has the ability to be dominant and will be focused. Texas wins.

We have nothing to lose. To win, play that way.

Go for it on fourth down every time. 4th and 2 on our own 29? Go for it. Ou can just as easily score from their 29 as our 29.
We need to controlthe clock and score. If we pick up first downs on three out of four tries, we win the game. Throw the dice.

If the players don't realize it on their own, I hope the coaches can instill added motivation by pointing out the spoiler role Texas can play by definitely keeping ou out of the CFP. Also, winning the Big XII and keeping ou from winning a 4th consecutive.

If that doesn't fire a team up to think that ou has won as many Big XII titles in the last 3 years as Texas has won, period, then I don't know what will.

11 titles for ou. Makes me sick.

So my true Longhorn fanatic orangeblood friend here at work told me that when Sam tried to talk to Kyler after the Red River Shootout that Kyler said, "Get out of my face" and Sam apparently then called Kyler a P*ssy."

Do y'all know if this is true? That might account for the no comment.

If kyler has that much of a problem losing games, MLB is going to be a very rough, discouraging life....Assuming he makes it to the bigs and that's not a given

Either we squeak another one out or they blow us out. For some odd reason I think we win Saturday.

Linc Riley has petitioned the Big 12 office to see if Horns down is a flag-worthy event

OU football: Lincoln Riley 'working on clarification' for Horns down penalty

It doesn't bother me if they do it but maybe that's because I'm a t-shirt fan and don't grasp how sacred the horns sign really is to true Longhorn alumni. But I think taunting in general is a judgment call anyway. The bottom line is not to provoke the other team (as opposed to be disrespectful in some way). We're not SNOWFLAKES right? But at the same time, it is a taunt and celebrations are regulated aren't they? A celebration is normal after a great play; anyone who's played sports understands the euphoria. Is it disrespectful to dance and gyrate? But doesn't that draw a flag?

So why exempt horns down then? Maybe they think it's a special rule just for Texas and that's why they think it shouldn't be flagged.

Lincoln wants the clarification because he knows his players can't control themselves, so he's out to "dicriminalize it."

I love it when teams do it. We're the relevant college football powerhouse. They're bringing their "A" game to bring us down. It's like a popularity contest that we already won, so they do the Horns Down in a vain attempt to make us feel bad. It's petty and jealous and makes me feel good.

When Nutt and Bielema did it, it shows how much real estate we take up in their tiny heads. Even schools like TCU and Tech who already have their own hand signs do it... just makes sense to hate us. They hate us 'cuz they ain't us.

Because it's not a celebration. It's a taunt. Taunting is, I'm told, something that gets penalized. If they're OK with letting our team taunt their fans and cheerleaders after a score, then that's fine. I just don't like that for some reason the "Horns Down" is lumped in as simply celebrating a great play. It's not.

BTW... did anyone happen to see some of the WV fans flashing the Horns Down sign during the OU game? I think they genuinely might be confused as to what that is...

Agreed.

Yes, I pointed it out during that game thread. Crazy hillbillies. Lots of moonshine flowing.

Yup, saw that during that game - thought it was quite odd but maybe something catching on throughout the conference... you know the sense of belonging with other teams that hate on UT.

Let 'em hate us more than they love their own team - just like aggy do!

Kansas D is ranked 81st. OU is ranked 111th. So yes, their defense is better. The problem is we are 63rd so as I said before we better tighten up with a good defensive plan then hold on for the late barrage of points.
