LOL. If we can beat Bama, I'd be more than happy to "endure" this hollow criticism.If we look good or even win against AL, then we are back to same old Texas playing down to their competition.
Any other uplifting opinions?We are in a bad spot. If we look good or even win against AL, then we are back to same old Texas playing down to their competition. If we get killed, then this team is nowhere near as good as we were led to believe. Either one is not a good look.
While the pass to Mitchell was short, it was a classic PI. The defender never looked back and ran into Mitchell. However, big 12 officials rarely call PI for Texas. That play should be put in Wikipedia as an example of a PI.Now, several hours after the game, what I feel is mostly being underwhelmed. True, the defense looked very good, so there’s that. But my enthusiasm on that side of the ball is tempered a bit by the fact that this was Rice, and that they basically have no receivers.
On offense, with elite players and an entire OL that returned — not counting Campbell who replaced a returning starter — we sputtered until the third quarter. Ewers is not mobile, and his inability to hit the long pass has become chronic. Some have said that interference should’ve been called on a couple of plays. I’m not sure. What I saw was a throw to Mitchell that was probably three yards short, and another to Worthy that landed out of bounds. Not one of those passes could have easily been caught.
If this offense doesn’t make a significant leap from week one to week two, it won’t be pretty in Tuscaloosa.
You’re right. But to me, the bigger issue is that QE seems unable to throw an accurate long pass with any regularity. He didn’t have any today.While the pass to Mitchell was short, it was a classic PI. The defender never looked back and ran into Mitchell. However, big 12 officials rarely call PI for Texas. I agree with chunk pass attempts, however, the OL should share in the blame. QE rarely had time to set his feet or get comfortable. I am sure he was pressing because it looked like last year’s OL play again. Look at the highlights of USC’s game. Their QB had all kinds of time.I’m just going to thank my lucky stars that my Texas Longhorns are 1-0 and not 0-1.
Take care of whatever bumps and bruises there are. Watch video and correct what needs fixing. Have positive practices, implement the game plan, and GATA next Saturday!
Hook ‘Em!!
Give the haters time. The season is young.I just read 11 pages of game thread with not a single bitching post about Coach PK’s defense.
Alternatively if the D line is really good and tackles specifically are spectacular, and there are veteran players like Ford at LB and you have talent and experience at DB, it’s really hard for a coach to screw it up.Give the haters time. The season is young.
You're damn right they'll use it, as well as the of the teams Texas plays as long as Sark doesn't adjust. It looked like the flyover Bailor and TCU used last year. The way to beat it are the intermediate passes but those aren't in Sark's playbook.So I was listening to Bobby Burton's post game show. Very interesting analysis by Rod Babers what Rice D was doing to confuse and have sucess vs UT OL today AND get pressure on Ewers.
He called it an amoeba or ghost defense. Said Rice DC may have been influenced by our Bailor game last year. Also stated Bama will pick up on it and use it next Sat.
Check it out.
A D at best. True Saek wasn't going to show Alabama anything so yes the game was more of a scrimmage, However, Ewers did not show any improvement in his downfield passing game.QB - B+ Ewers didn't have good touch on the long balls. Otherwise good. Score and stats would have been better if not for some drops on ready catches.
Really?but those aren't in Sark's playbook.
Welp... expectations are a b*tch. I had them. Pregame, I told my wife I wanted to see a 45-0 score.
Statistically, Quinn had a good game. No picks. Ran for some nice first downs. Three TD's. Endured breakdowns up front. I'm willing to give him a break if he needs one. It's just a feeling we have about him. Something seems missing. He's had a full season now and the off-season. So... that makes him a sophomore, right? What is the expectation for a sophomore after game one? Maybe it was a good game in the proper context. I was hard on him last year.
As I said, the offensive line had breakdowns. We saw it. The commentators high-lighted it. They said we had all five starters back for the first time in a long time. They had the off season. So what was the problem?
Xavier looked amazing. So fast. Another level fast. Baxter looked great on the run. Then the injury. Holding my breath. Blue looked good.
The D looked great. Yeah, it was Rice but that's what we wanted to see. Domination. That what we saw.
Coaching? Well, coach, what about the line?
Back to Quinn. Those two long throws that should have resulted in pass interference (absolute abomination of non-calls) would have made the scoreboard that much better (assuming we didn't score on those drives anyway. I didn't make a note of that). It's easy to be paranoid about officiating when we're leaving the conference. OU would probably have the same suspicions. It's just amazing that they didn't throw the flags.
All in all a Meh game. I went for a nap in the fourth quarter. I'll stay awake for next weeks game.
Use 2 TE’s, throw intermediate passes to JWhitt and Worthy and run the ball or pass to RB. Score 24 points and hope defense holds on.I agree Ewers could have put more on those deep balls to put on a better showing, but I agree with two missed PIs and a dropped TD pass to Brooks that would have dramatically changed the score.
Oline makes some fixes .. let’s beat Bama
yes, but all I see is bitching about the long passes. I have not seen any comments on the facts that QE was:You’re right. But to me, the bigger issue is that QE seems unable to throw an accurate long pass with any regularity. He didn’t have any today.
However, Ewers did not show any improvement in his downfield passing game.
Still not enough of it and still wasting down throwing long to Worthy. One was even thrown out of bounds. I guess our QB doesn't realize that doesn't count.Really?
Could have swore I saw JT Sanders, Worthy, Whittington and Mitchell all catching intermediate passes.
And let's note that on that zero interception stat, there weren't even any throws that "should have been" picked off, nor even any in danger of being picked off.yes, but all I see is bitching about the long passes. I have not seen any comments on the facts that QE was:
* 19-30 for 260 yards.
* 0 (zero) interceptions.
* Ran for 2 (two) big 1st downs on 3rd and long.
* 3 (three) TD passes
* 1 (one) TD run.
without any credit for the above, One poster stated that he personalty watch 15 BETTER QB's yesterday.
Unless QE had been 30-30, many posters seemed ready to trash QE.
For us, when Big12 refs are on the field, this is probably true.And forget about throwing it short to get a PI penalty. The DB could tackle the WR and it still won't happen.
