For the past 10 years or so, they've had a better shot at winning a national title than Tenn. Mulkey built that, and her legacy there. Why leave your own legacy to just follow someone else? You think she could ever do enough at Tenn to have the court named in her honor? Maybe a street? A statue even? Probably not!! She's well on the way to having all of that in Waco. Just don't see why on earth anyone would leave that ESPECIALLY since she's pulling in top 5-10 recruiting classes every single year and racking up league title after league title and a final four every 3 years or so? We've all seen and commented on her persona and demeanor, does she strike you as someone willing to live in a shadow? Not to mention that her and Holly have a well documented and deep friendship, not sure she would take kindly to her firing let alone willing to validate it by succeeding her.

My thoughts exactly! Mulkey won't leave what she has created. The Baylor program is ALL HER. Whether one likes her or not, she took a cellar dweller and made it the modern-day La Tech... I knew when they hired her it was going to happen. I predicted it on message boards and got laughed at. I may not agree with everything KM does, but she's ALWAYS been gracious, engaging, and personable towards me and mine. You can't deny what she's accomplished at a school that never even DREAMED of competing for league titles, much less two National Championships. Why would anyone walk away from that legacy?

Btw, Michelle Voepel just tweeted that Goestenkors is stepping away from coaching (she was on the Fever staff) to become tv analyst full time. I'm not sure I see her ever going back to the grind of D1 basketball coaching.

The "backwoods" sure did teach her how to coach, how to develop players, and how to win national championships. I just think someone with her talents deserves better than Baylor.

I'm really betting Warlick will not be at Tennessee next season. I know that I disagree with what some others have posted here, but Tennessee will take a long, hard look at Mulkey, and that if offered on her terms Mulkey will accept.

This is the equivalent to building your own start up business, turning it into a fortune 100 company and leaving to become the COO of a slightly larger company. Makes no sense to me.

Did anyone watch the pressers Holly did after the game, she was almost in tears, looked like she was fighting hard to not break down...then Diamond and Basharra were the in the player presser, Diamond basically said that despite her turnovers the coaches should have left her in the game. She usually leads the team in turnovers, she actually had a pretty good shooting night yesterday and maybe she was right that they should have left her in the game but a lot times she turns the ball over too many times and shoots about 10%. I'm sure y'all heard about the tweets Diamond's dad sent last week directly at Holly, eventhough Holly said everything was good it is clearly not.

I had not heard about the tweets. I don't agree with parents doing that. Look, this is Diamond's second stop. She/they made the choice and need to live with it and be a team player as long as you're on it in my opinion.

Holly must surely be in the hottest seat in D1 WBB currently.

yea that's really rough because they're truly stuck together. I did like his backhanded apology though.

Tough to see their program struggle like it has, but it will make returning to the top of the mountain (if they ever do) that much sweeter.

I totally agree. I can't see her leaving a powerhouse that SHE built to rebuild one someone else built. It's not like she's having issues attracting top talent. Besides, why would she leave a court that will inevitably bear her name to coach on a court with someone else's name on it?

And put this thread on ice. The Lady Vols are in the Sweet Sixteen after beating ASU on the Sun Devil's home court. Tennessee played well, but I've always felt ASU was not as great as the powers that be have lauded them to be this year.

Great win for the Vols, and Warlick. They've now won 5 of their last six, including upsets of the Ags, ASU and GA.Honestly, that's four consecutive Sweet 16's for Warlick in her four seasons as HC, with two of those being Elite 8 appearances. And if they win vs. Ohio State, that will be thee Elite 8's and one Sweet 16 in four years as HC. Not quite what fans who are used to competing for national championships are used to, but not all that bad considering the transition, and who she followed; replacing a legend in never an easy thing. And even Summitt had droughts without a title; I recall more than a few fans getting restless during that stretch from 1998-2007, and half of those years the Vols didn't even make the FF. Then Candace Parker showed up and all was right again. I just don't see a program replacing a coach who has a 106-33 overall record in four years, and a 50-14 conference record, including conference titles two of those four years, and having finished second another year. And remember it was just last season that the Vols hit 30 wins, won the SEC and made the Elite 8. One down year isn't going to result in a change, IMO. And even during that so-called down year, the Vols are now at 21 wins, and in the Sweet 16. In particular with Deshields, Russell and Nared only sophs this year, and Cooper a freshman, they're not going to do anything to rock that boat. That's four of the Vols top 5 scoers due back for at least two more years, and their next five scorers will all be back also. They need to do better with recruiting, so there will be others ready once the current crop is gone, but they have a solid group of 10 returning. Now if there is attrition things could change fast, given the lack on incoming recruits, but for now I think Warlick can count on these next few seasons with the Deshields/Russell/Nared class to get the job done. And perhaps then things will be evaluated, once that group is gone.
