Herman Needs to Go

Back in the early 2000's I was a confirmed sunshine pumper, in my 5 decades of connection with the University of Texas which include being a young Texas fan, then Texas student getting both an undergrad and grad degree, and then as a lifetime Texas Ex/alum with 25 years as a season ticket holder, I have supported every coach at Texas, many of them long past the time other fans gave up on them. But this coach is different, he lost me when he allowed his team to decide that they would disrespect the school, disrespect the fans and disrespect all the alumni that came before them by walking off the field without joining the fans at the end to sing the Eyes of Texas. The singing of that song connects us as fans to each other and to the team in a way that is so intensely important its hard to even find words to describe it. For me personally I cannot accept a coach who is willing to divorce himself and his team from that connection and this coach made that choice and continues to make that choice whether he stood with his horns up yesterday or not at the end of the game.

Herman must go for this reason and this reason alone in my mind!

The thing that ties my stomach up in knots is the idea that we will look back on this day and think "wow, $20 million spent back then would have been an incredible bargain".

The entire Tom Herman tenure symbolized in 1 tweet

social-media-reacts-to-female-longhorn-fan-flipping-off-cameras-after-texas-loses-to-oklahoma-video-tweets

I hate hate hate seeing women do this....it THEIR symbol of THEIR generation....does not sit well with me....

I thought the most telling line was when one of the announcers said something like..."OU is in an obvious rebuilding year, Texas has a Sr QB and many returning players.....If not this year....when?" I think that was spot on with regard to TH as a coach. OU has shown that they are at a low point. We should have been at a high point. And yet we needed a miraculous effort to even climb back into the game in the 4th quarter.

I could not agree more with your post. When the o/u QB who is a redshirt freshman was hurt their 2nd team QB scored on us. It was like plug and play for o/u against us. We did not pressure him enough to put a scare into his soul. Instead he gained confidence the more he played. Bad coaching on our part.

His gesture is not all that bad. He's just connecting with his players. Watch him interact with the players. Sometimes he has to look for an opportunity to relate to his players. My advice to you is "lighten up Francis".
with all due respect....that is NOT something someone that is a HEAD COACH of TEXAS should EVER be seen doing....in the locker room AFTER the game....maybe....NOT on the sideline in front of a TV audience....EVER!!!

you have seen the coaches dancing with their players after the game in the locker room??? that is how I see the BEST place for this kind of behavior....

I agree with a lot of your comments, but I just think this was childish on his part.

I think it's just something he chose to do at this moment to relate to his players and it's neither right or wrong. Now shooting his middle fingers at the camera is entirely immature and reckless!

my guess is that you are much, much, much younger than I....

It was embarrassing, too, when Mack Brown told people he listened to 50 cents or whatever the hell the guy's name is.

Remember when players tried to impress the coach and not the other way around?

"Gosh, I'll play for you now and do my job since I can see you can relate to me."

Uh.....

Exactly! Chances are if the coaches are impressed at this level means that coaches at the NFL level may be as well.

This leads to another point- how many TH coached players are doing their craft on Sundays?

They are both too immature and reckless for a coach at ANY major University. Name the successful coach at a major program that does such things. I can't think of any.

Yes he does but he is not pandering to the players which is my point.
Is there any other Power 5 coach who has made public statements like Herman's?
