Herman is the problem

I would say it has a lot to do on Defense with 8 underclassmen being on the field for a lot of plays. Tyler Owens sure got schooled about his positioning. It will get better.

The OL collapse is a mystery but perhaps we should be rotating in more players? They seem like they are exhausted at this point in the season.

Firing coaches mid season is a pathetically ineffective response. Herman and every other HC does his review post season.

I would say that Herman may be a little too intense and strident in his exhortations. Maybe it is time to inject a little joy of playing the game back into the two week practice sessions.
Kansas' Les Miles says ,"HELLO !!!"...Fired his OC mid-season and nearly beat Texas at DKR then beat Tech.....

HIC. Your reply makes no ******* sense whatsoever to what I said
No reason to get so ****** in your reply, but that's your general MO.

You were talking about what Clemson fans thought should happen to Dabo after 3 years. I tongue-in-cheek made a joke about that saying I didn't realize Texas fans should follow what Clemson fans do. What the **** don't you get about that?

So, tell me, Professor, why doesn't it make any sense whatsoever?

I think he meant that Clemson, which actually is kind of on top these days, had to have patience through some growing pains while their coach was in his 3rd/4th years, but it paid off.

Clemson promoted a known solid assistant coach (Herman), gave him room to improve, stuck with him through losing 3 of 4 bowl games his first 4, and now he's putting up Bobby Bowden type numbers and can cherry pick recruits. In fact he replaced Tommy Bowden. Dabo was 6-6 his THIRD year, lost a Meineke bowl game to South Florida to finish 6-7. After that year, it's been 10 wins ever since, 3-0 in bowl games, and 5-2 in the CFP, winning two natty's and finishing 2nd once and 4th once. Herman's still got the (what I call) the "Texas straight jacket", which puts some unknown element ahead of winning football games (I've griped about this before). I think next year and the year after (4 & 5) will be a true indicator of where Texas is headed. Herman's got the pedigree but this year has been ridiculous with injuries. One or two guys sure but almost everyone on defense? In the Big 12 track meet? There's some on the board that just want to shout at the moon and eventually I'll just let y'all but damn, people, can you breathe until we get demolished by K-State? I mean, I know THAT game is already over....NOT!!!!! Hook 'Em!

Zuck, it’s hard to argue with your big picture perspective. And actually 5-3, while certainly a huge disappointment, is not a catastrophe. But I believe that in this case, the 40,000 foot view misses very troubling signs, the biggest one being on the defensive side of the ball.

Since at least the beginning of last year if not before, a very disturbing trend has emerged. The defense frequently cannot hold a lead and cannot make a critical stop. As a result, we have seen a high percentage of late game collapses.

We all want and need to see progress, and on that side of the ball, we are not seeing it. I tend to somewhat discount the injuries this year because last year, with more upperclassmen and some real stars sprinkled in, we saw the same type of collapses in many games, including OU, OSU and WVA.

Our HC has not been able to address this issue and for that reason many, including me, have begun to wonder if Herman is capable of doing so. (His predecessor was not.) If he isn’t, his tenure at Texas will be shortened considerably.

We can all agree the defense is trending down since 2017. They seem to regress through the season and late in games. We also seem to struggle with injuries and depth. Is tgat simply coaching and scheme or is it the first 3 year malaise. Mack had that malaise too, year 4 is when he broke through the 10 win barrier. So, I think TH still has learning and adjustments to figure out. Perhaps the fall training regimen could be tweaked somewhere. That and some more quality recruiting will help a lot.

TCU put up 14 points on us in the 3rd Q. We put up 3.

TCU first drive of the 3rd Q - 5 plays, 70 yards
TCU second "drive" of the 3rd Q - 1 play 44 yards - the long bomb to Reagor

On the bright side, this is Patterson we're talking about, so he'll usually out-coach everyone in this conference (even Riley). IMHO, we've got to step up our in-game adjustments. There seems to be a stubbornness, a resistance to change and adapt on-the-fly, and an over-reliance on Sam to bail us out and win the close games.

To me, it's not all doom and gloom. We're stacked with raw talent, and injured men will soon be back (hopefully). We have an overall competent (though not dominant) offensive line for the first time in about a decade. Sam is human and should be allowed the occasional rare bad game -- this was one.

I support Tom and am glad we have him, but all is not just fine and dandy with the overall coaching performance of this staff. I would expect Tom will make the necessary changes in the off-season. He pretty much has to. Every remaining game will be a dogfight, and I expect we'll win most of them.

Herman isn’t going anywhere for as long as he wants to be here.
This **** is too funny. Talk about over reaction .

Clemson “fans” were saying the same thing about Dabo 3-4 years into it.

Remember when a ******** WVU team with Holgerson lit up the scoreboard on Dabo to the tune of 70+ points in the bowl game?
All this hysteria makes me wish I were a black market Midol dealer for the sufferers here.

Except KK definitely schooled him last year with a lot less talent. Then the TTU fans made sure his *** was fired, to his benefit.

Good points, Duke, just don't think the personnel is deep enough yet on either side of the ball to achieve reasonable goals. However, I digress. There's over a week until the loss to K-State, and I have to save all of my remaining energy for the discussion that follows.... ;)
