Herman is the problem

It’s beyond injuries. This is like David McWilliams Charlie Strong Part III. Players have no passion and don’t seem to want to win. Meanwhile Ohio St and LSU move along with new no-name coaches.

There does seem to be an issue in the locker room. I have an issue with the way he chased off Shane Buechele. I always thought that he was better than Sam and Herman never gave him a fair shake, claiming he wasn't a leader. Sunny Dykes says Shane is a great leader. SMU is 8-0 and getting it done with way less talent than Texas.

This is more than just TH. He made questionable position coaching hires and has non-existent recruiting in-roads. We're getting lapped by everyone in the state.

I don't know why at Texas we have to have a coach that's learning on the job. Now we'll have to go through the whole cycle of rebuilding with a new coach again. And will we hire the right guy this time? I wonder if Texas will ever be good in my lifetime again.

Last year when he called him the sixth chair violinist wanting him to lead the orchestra. Herman doesn't like that Shane has a quieter leadership style.

There is definitely something wrong in that lockerroom. The guys are playing like they aren't motivated. They should' ve played against TCU like their hair was on fire after their near miss with Kansas. Instead they were even more flat.

Horngal that’s what bothers me! I wondered if I was over evaluating but it bothered me when I saw (often) defensive players walking into position instead of running or jogging. Though I was just being picky but not not so sure.

The defense got burned on long passes because of getting beat one on one. But to be fair, that “D” played pretty well.
I love Shane but he is not playing the same level of competition. I do think he throws a better deep ball and I don’t know about his gameday play selection, but my guess is would be better than what Sam has to deal with.

Shane could not stay healthy when He played for us. That is how Sam first got to play.

I was hoping the 'doing less with more' title that Texas had since Mack's days would die out under Herman. Looks to have only got worse. If you believe 'insiders', we've only begun to see the decommits and players entering the transfer portal.

The good news is that they have an open date next week and several of the injured are supposed to return against KSU. Wonder if Sterns, Whittington, etc can make a difference.

I hope so
but so many are posting that he has lost the team and makes poor coaching decisions.
I did not think the team quit.

I don't think the team quit, isn't trying, loafs, or lacks spirit, etc.

I think we're mostly suffering from: (i) many injuries, (ii) predictable play calling on both sides of the ball, (iii) over-reliance on Sam to constantly bail us out and win the game, and (iv) in-game (and halftime) coaching failures to adapt and make the necessary adjustments.

How did he chase off Shane? Shane was the starter until he was injured. This board was so big on Sam and wishing Shane the best, as I do. A bad game from Sam and now Herman chased off Shane. Tough crowd.

Personally, they look like a team that feels burdened by their own and the fans' expectations of them this year. They remind me somewhat of the 2009 team compared to the 2008 team. The 2008 team just had fun playing the game, especially following the ou game. When you mix talent with confidence and joy you have the makings of something very special.

The 2009 team grinded more and didn't look like they were having as much fun as they did in 2008. They had expectations and they weighed heavy on that team all year. You could just see it. They just had so much talent they were able to overcome it.

I see that same thing with this team. They have talent, but they just don't look like they are enjoying themselves at all. They can't get past the burdens they are putting on themselves and it seems to have sucked all of the fun out of it for them. Add that to a growing lack of confidence and what we have been seeing the past few Saturdays is the result.

Tom says we need to work harder. No, we need to work smarter and we need to find a way to bring some fun and confidence back into that locker room.

and playing a much easier schedule.

Sam was Herman's QB from the second that he was hired. Coach's decision to live with. Shane was (and is) the better passer of the two. Yes, Shane was injured, but no matter who stood behind a Charlie Strong O-line was going to get injured.

I totally agree Shane is the better passer. However, Didn't Sam play behind that same Strong line?

In the past, when he was having fun, Sam would give the somewhat emphatic first down signal after he ran for one. No longer.

This team is exhausted and emotionally broken. Add to that the incompetence of the coaching and you get yet another disastrous, disappointing season of football futility.

You can't win in Herman's offense with Shane. Plain and simple. Unfortunately, Herman is too much of a genius to adapt his offense around his players' strengths (think installing the zone read for VY). Herman will never change. The players know this, and they simply must fend for themselves (think transfer portal).

Sam is perfect for Herman's offense. Unfortunately, the lack of a serious running threat at tailback puts too much pressure on him to be a perfect passer every game. The O-Line is extremely weak right now.

lacking a power run game has hurt us. when you have 1/G and can't get into the endzone because you lost the deep threat ... there's a big problem.

it's not really that complicated ... which is prob why mensa doesn't like it.

Sigh ... I thought Herman was gonna develop from those exceedingly bone-noggined calls 2 years ago. He hasn't.

that fake punt really paid dividends, didn't it? Can you say "my defense can't stop a kid on a tricycle?"

I'm done with blaming the players. Players will give the coaches exactly what is expected of them. Coaches are as much to blame for the injuries to DBs. How about maybe raising expectations for the dline to make some tackles and some sacks instead of just making excuses for them. How about putting a actual front 7 in the game instead of playing a bunch of DBs.

This staff is so concerned with trying to be smart, they are getting out fundamental ed by real coaches who teach their players how the game is played.

At this point this is 100% on the coaches. They fix it or GTFO. If Tom Herman wants to prove to the world how smart he is, then he can go back to Houston and prove it there. We need a football coach who can teach his team how the game is played. I can't believe after 3 years we are this sloppy and undisciplined. For all his talk about system, Tom needs to fix the system or get fired.

I take issue with the opinion that Herman “chased off” Buechele. That’s simply not true. I was initially in the SB camp, and preferred Shane over Sam. The problem was that SB didn’t have the mobility, and he couldn’t improvise when the pocket collapsed. Sam could, and it because evident early last year that Sam was the better choice. For almost all of the games since Maryland last year Sam has been outstanding. That’s not just my opinion. It has been virtually the unanimous opinion of those who cover the game, some of whom the Texas fans don’t like.

Sure, he had a bad day yesterday. But to use that aberration as the basis to suggest that SB was and is the better QB would require a PhD in selective memory.

If we're frequently getting our butts stomped in the 3rd Quarter, that's usually a sign that the other teams are making appropriate halftime adjustments, and we're not. That's got to improve. It's probably worth a 7-10 point swing per game.

Just saying...
