Have Rangers hit the wall

All season the Rangers have been stringing together wins sometimes with seeming bailing wire and duct tape of a lineup. Three straight losses since all star break coupled with losing 4 of 5 going into the break and you have to wonder if they finally hit the proverbial wall. Ogando is due back this week and lets see if Darvish is back after his two week rest but things are not well at the ol Ballpark right now.

I was kinda of thinking the same thing last night after getting swept at home by the birds... this team almost always found a way to string together a win - no matter how ugly or late. But what a horrible start to the second half of the season.

Murphy's bat is showing signs of life, but the rest of the lineup... R's cannot get a timely hit with guys on base - it is killing us. Ogando can't get back too soon - I hope he is ready. Darvish better get a "W" versus the Yanks tonight to stop the bleeding.

Yep. The only thing that can get them over it is to make some good moves at the trade deadline, get their starting pitchers healthy, and start hitting the blasted ball. Problem solved.

Garza will definitely boost the rotation. But I don't think the Rangers ar done yet on the trades. They still have a well-stocked minor league system and could use a power-hitting RH bat. I'm still wondering if JD is talking to Miami about Giancarlo Stanton - he'd hit 50 homers a year in The Ballpark, and he would be under contract control for another three years (I think).

Looking ahead, I don't see the Rangers signing Murphy or Cruz. Some club will throw big numbers and four or five years at Cruz, and JD won't go that long. As for Murphy, regardless of how good a teammate he may be, you can't have a corner outfielder hitting .220.

Thoughts?

They need a bat to finish this year and stay, and then a bat to replace Cruz next year as he is a FA at the end of the year. All of the hitting depth in the minors struggles to materialize at the major league level.

They also need another arm this year as Ogando is not and has never been starter material.

I know it is just the end of July, but I'm about ready to stick a fork in this team. They are in a major rut and showing no signs of coming out of it. Hopefully, the can start making the turn tonight against the Angels.

Danno got his wish. Good guys managed an impressive 9th inning rally to beat the angles and stop the 5 game losing streak. Hopefully this will get the train back on the track... we will see.

I am ashamed and feeling foolish this morning fellow Ranger Zealots... I know better, but when the Angles went ahead 11-7 in the 8th Tues. night and it looked like they might get more runs, I changed the channel and later went to bed without checking the final score... gosh I missed a good one!

Woo-woo, I was lucky enough to be at the game. Lots of fans left at the exact time you went to bed.

I was there for the duration and was handsomely rewarded. What a game!

Was surprised they didn't make a trade for a bat. I'm wondering if there's anyway Cruz is going to appeal and Rangers agree to pick up contract for next year? That seems farfetched, but don't know why else they'd feel good about their OF being Murphy, Gentry and Martin. There's bound to be some surprises somewhere.

Sweeping the Halos is a good start to turning the corner--the Rangers managed to gain ground on the A's for the first time in almost a month (A's lead down to 4 games). This next road trip (visits to Oakland, Anaheim, and Houston) should tell us a lot about this team, especially if word comes down that Nellie gets suspended for the rest of the year and chooses not to appeal. If that happens, Texas is in deep doo-doo offensively.

H69 - WOW you were there Tues. for the Rangers 2 TD rally win over the Angles 14 -11 - what an exciting game to be at!

Wed. night - "holy crap" is right - serious Ranger history last night with that 2-1 vick-tree: 3 walk-off wins in a row fellow zealots. And hell no, I did not miss the end to the game last night - loved seeing the guys tear off Beltre's jersey!

In response to the question posted by the title to this thread - the answer is that they have not hit the wall, they hit over it!!!

Awesome three wins!!!

My dad used to tell a great story about a friend who constantly picked bar fights -- and routinely got his but whipped. Drunk and crying after getting knocked down he swore 'If I every find somebody I can whup, I'm going to take him home and whup him every day!"

Now if we could do like the Harlem Globetrotter/Washington Generals thing with the Angels.

No. August 1st - Thurs. night - Good Guys up 5-0 vs. AZ in middle of the 6th and Yu has 14 K's so far - if he stays strong and stays in the game he may get 18-20 or more K's at this rate!

Crockett, I like the analogy. And good news...the Rangers play 20 of their remaining 53 against the Astros and the Angels. Let's hope those teams don't change their stripes any.

As much as I loved getting Matt Garza and watching him pitch, there are these results from the guys traded for him: Olt is 3-27 w/10K's at AAA Iowa and Grimm allowed 7 runs in 2 innings in his first start at Iowa. Ouch!!

Go Rangers!

This is why baseball is a 162 game marathon. 5 straight wins and suddenly the Rangers are tied for the wold card and just 2 and 1/2 out of the west.

I am worried that Monday sees Nelly gone for rest of season and that Murph and Moreland cant sustain this little burst they have both found but the Rangers have found some life and the obit I was ready to write after the Cleveland series now seems premature.

Former Horn Sam LeCure did the Rangers a big favor today. Came in in 7th for Reds and put down an A's uprising. Reds win by one...Rangers going for 1st place tie tonight.

Go Rangers!

With win last night and second straight series sweep of the Angels, that makes 9 wins in last 10 games and a virtual tie with Oakland though Rangers are 1 back in the loss column. 3-0 since Cruz was suspended and now 4 games down in Houston where we can hope the Rangers keep up this torrid run against the worst team in MLB. The last 10 days have saved a season since I was ready to play the funeral march after the Cleveland series.

The Rangers did hit the wall but Wash has managed to get them to pick themselves up and get back in the race and he may well be manager of the year for that. He doesn't get the credit he deserves for what he has done with this patchwork team, this year.

^^^ Yep. The good guys have managed to get out of the ditch. The loss of Nellie will be felt, but maybe--just maybe--they can weather it. Need to take advantage of a soft spot in the schedule this month when they can pass and, hopefully, create some distance between them and the A's.

what FW & Danno said. I too was worried after getting swept by the Tribe but these guys have turned it around. I like how agressive Wash has had the guys playing the last 2-3 games with Nellie out of the lineup. 4 steals in game 2 vs. LAA and 6 stolen bases last night in game 3 - including one double steal!!

Let's hope the day off today gets legs and arms rested and the team focused to go out and pound the lowley 'stros the next 4 games.
