Hartzell leaving for SMU

Vino Bevo

Wine - how classy people get drunk
Just saw a pop-up from a local Austin affiliate and then saw the email from Hartzell announcing his decision to leave UT for a new challenge at SMU. Many of you guys are more familiar with the inner dealings and decisions coming from his office but this feels like a loss to me and I'm sad to see it.

Good news this didn't happen during the peak of the DEI culture and here's hoping it has absolutely no impact on the decision as to who comes next.

Only thing I can come up with is that Hartzell was finding opposition to some policy he was trying to implement. My wild guess is either he was trying to remove all DEI in accordance with state law and it wasn't happening. Or he didn't want to remove DEI and the board was trying to get him to follow through in implementing state law.

I understand there might be fewer headaches at SMU but I know a President does NOT have complete autonomy.
Damn the pay difference would be a big draw

In Austin he had the Governor, Lt Govenor, Speaker, and every actual as well as wannabe politician yapping at his heals. Then there is our stupid-*** faculty. Constantly fighting for money from the legislature and the PUF. His life is 20 hours a day listening to demands from people, most of whom don't have a clue.

At SMU, he's got Clark and the boys and can get them on first ring.

SMU toyed with Tier One status rising to #56 a decade ago and then fell back to the mid 70s. They ain't that far away and remain ahead of aTm. Open checkbook, closed politics, spend 90% of his time on education instead of politics and ******** people.

Before Hartzell, who was the last good, much less great, Texas President?

When you reach the level of achievement and financial security Hartzell has achieved, it can tend to lessen your tolerance for ********. How would you like to endure endless wacky left wing whining from faculty and control efforts from delusional right wing fanatics Abbott, Patrick and Paxton?

The guy who was able to secure the Jet Pack man at DKR gets my vote.

This ^^^^^ not to mention 2.5X Salary. As I stated on the wrong thread, Hartzell did some great things and we are extremely appreciative. That said, he certainly is not without controversy. I think this is a win-win as both schools could use a new/different voice.

"and control efforts from delusional right wing fanatics Abbott, Patrick and Paxton?"
That would drive me to leave too

Crock Do you have examples of those men trying to control ?

6721: It's easy to Google each of those politians name and UT or University of Texas and find dozens of stories. I'll help you research if you are truly interested, but I lack the patience to prepare lesson plans in this forum anymore.

Crock?
You are the one making claims. I am sure you are sincere but if you make a claim and don't provide credible proof it weakens/dismisses your claim.

If you don't remember Abbott's response to campus protest or Patrick's work on "critical.race theory" I don't think you are interested enough to educate.

I talked to a guy just this morning who is a friend of a friend of Hartzell's, and he told me the same thing WRT why he would leave UT.
