Great sportsmanship story

Amen to the last two posts. I couldn't say it any better than that. It amazes me that people even started arguing the point on this thread.

Well, since I"m old now and not playing any competitive baseball, I guess I can see where it's acceptable.
When I was 19, though, I don't think anyone I knew would have helped the player do that. That's the rules, not a technicality. I remember my coach playing in a baseball game around Liberty Hill; he broke his ankle sliding into 3rd, rolled over in pain, the 3d baseman tagged him out. Then called for help.
Just because you don't want to help your opponent win doesn't mean you're a bad person.
Reasonable men may disagree.

They should probably change the rule in women's softball so it doesn't happen again.

One important point I think y'all are missing is the timing. We don't know how long this was discussed before they picked her up. No video of the actual injury and the beginning of the carry.

It's completely possible that the young lady would have crawled around the bases on two hands and one knee if there had been no other option.

I basically posted as much on another thread around here about this. Someone asked if this would have happened in a a men's league and I answered that it wouldn't have happened because the opponents wouldn't have thought of offering and the batter would have dragged his *** around the bases.

But that's not to say the girl wouldn't have dragged herself if another option hadn't been presented.

Huck-

My understanding of the story is that it took some time and decision making- complete with the manager asking if there could be a pinch runner and the umps ruling no. I'm thinking it didn't just happen right away.

I hope nobody is taking my posts the wrong way. i think it's a great and inspiring story that would have never happened in a men's game, I think the guy would have tripoded it around on his hands and knees.

Again, not better, not worse just different. I think the story is great and shows some great things about how women can interact (in the ideal) that's different from men, just like the marathon story shows some great masculine traits.
