I read something earlier about ballot paper size in Maricopa county. The ballot size was 20". The equipment used for early voting and mail in ballots could read the ballots fine.
The equipment for election day was for 19" paper so the 20" ballots caused problems when fed into 19" tabulators Imagine that
Demx much more heavily vote mail in and early. Republicans vote on election day.

When they did the test run the day before why wasn't that caught?
If that was the case it should have been a universal problem instead of only 30% of the places unless some machines were still programmed for the 19 in instead of the 20 in.
This is as weak of an excuse since the the one they made after they deleted the election database before the audit.

Remember 2 months back when I stated the dems seem too cozy, like it was 2020 all over again. Imo they had a plan in place to rig the senate. The math just didn't shake out right from Thursday.

IIRC now it was the in person ballot printer that caused the problem. That printer was set for 19" so trying to print a normal 20" ballot on a printer programmed at 19" caused problems and caused the ballot to be put aside.

As the article states, the timing is highly suspect. Crime committed in 2019, wait until mid terms are over to bring charges
I wouldn't call it being willfully stupid but more like having blinders on. Regardless of party Trump has a negative effect on some people and they want him to be their scapegoat/boogeyman. They will ignore the obvious to center everything negative from the election on him.
To back up LC's article above and I'm surprised the article didn't mention this fact that happened in Arizona in 2020. The postal system in AZ said there were 100K+ undeliverable ballots that were sent in the mail back to Maricopa. Maricopa claimed they got about 50K+ back. What the hell happened to the other 50k?
