Why keep someone underperforming and believe he was hired to win 70% of his games, still be eligible in November to play for Big 12 Ship, and has destroyed recruiting. A 5th year of Herman with a RS freshman Qb under Herman means 6-6 at best...

I think He-Man is a mediocre coach, and will accomplish nothing of consequence at Texas.

That said, if there's not a good candidate to hire, should Texas take a big risk on someone else, when you'd have to give that guy at least 3 years to either win or get the boot, while Herman is quite fireable this time next year, with only two years left in his obscenely inflated contract.

If I was the AD, I'd say that we've not happy with the results of this or previous seasons, and the goal for next year in the B12 title, with changes made if that goal isn't met.

If that scares off recruits (at least those who haven't left already) who think that Herman only has one year left, so be it. No one should shy away from having a conference championship as the goal.

I voted retain solely based on UM not returning to coaching. I don't see any other coach on the market right now that is a program changer. The one and only defense for TH right now is that he seems to have a pretty good class of young players on the roster.

There is no defense for Herman after what he's done off the field and on to this University. And he's not taking responsibility. So you want to go 5-7 without a veteran QB? Bc he's guaranteed to give away 2-3 games, won't hold players accountable wrt EOT and still thinks he's the smartest guy in the room.
Watch Billy Bowman light Texas up next yr at the Cotton Bowl, a former Texas commit. He's had 4 years to get it done and he's done more damage than good.

Conf championship is always the goal. How many ultimatums does he get to miss?
TH lowered the standard. I guess some are OK with that. If I had $millions to pull, I would do it.

It's been seemingly :deadhorse:, but it is much more than Xs and Os, which this guy sucks at, anyway. he can't handle the ancillary aspects of the Texas job. Period. His *** needs to go.

Herman's biggest blunders were not "On the Field". (Do not take this to mean I think he has been blunder-free...) His biggest blunders were in mismanaging the PR aspects of the job as it relates to the little fans, the BMD fans, High School coaches, and all of the other groups surrounding this program. Tom Herman never got close to putting the proverbial BBs back in the box. If anything he scattered them out even further. As I see it there is absolutely, positively no way to repair that side of things, and therefore, he has to go. And now.

He's done a bang up job otherwise.

CDC’s modus operendi is to run to something (see T&F, softball and W. B Ball) not from something so unless we have coach we want to run to it will be one more year of what we have. In 2013 all we knew was were running from Mack and that led to the farce that ultimately was Charlie. There are worse options than Herman so first do no harm and only if there is a better option pull the lever.

Change for the sake of change is not always good. A good start would be if tommy came out tomorrow and profusely apologized for absolutely screwing the pooch on the Eyes of Texas issue and committed to working on being less of an arrogant *** and that he will spend the next twelve months laser focusing on restoring faith in the program. Of course the odds of that happening........

I don't see him doing that but IF he does ALL those things, he still wont' know how to value points, use the run game effectively and win close games. And he won't have Sam to cover for the mistakes by making comebacks. Do leopards change their spots?

Keep firing and hiring until you get it right..... Haven’t y’all played slots???

Me and Joe fan are contemplating Art Brile's. I don't care about his past. If we are not getting Urban then let's get briles. He's got the Moxie to turn things around.
This would be akin to CDC going all in a championship poker tournament. Does he have the nads?

I'd hire Petrino before Briles.

How about we hire a consulting firm out of Nevada - BB Sports Consulting, who will assign Bill Bradley to oversee football and act as HC?

He will be an employee of the consulting firm not The University. Who cares who plays QB. The other team will never score.

I second that motion.

I'm for UT overlooking the degree requirement and bring in former Texas High School All State QB, UT QB and NFL All Pro DB - Bill Bradley as the next HC. He was DC at Baylor for several years.

FWIW, in his last game as a Longhorn he had 4 INT. vs. aggy! A record that still stands.

CDC has to take dollars and cents into the equation. That's part of his job description. Apparently, according to rumors, enough big money guys had ponied up enough to make a deal with Meyer. Same rumors say they won't pony up that kind of cash for anyone else. To me, that means CDC's options might be limited.
Buy Herman out, but keep an assistant on as head coach on a one year deal (which has been mentioned here). Keep Herman and see if he rights the ship on all fronts (doubtful); or take a chance on our second choice (whoever that is) which provides no guarantees.
I don't know what I'd do, quite honestly. My gut tells me Herman has to go. But CDC knows him a lot better than I do. I think we may be damned if we do and damned if we don't.
Please don't hire Art Briles.

Art Briles as an option is a non starter. No way in hell he ever coaches at UT.
My theory is he gets mentioned so people can have a reason to talk about what a scumbag he is. He can't get a job as an analyst. He's a far better coach than 99% of those who do.

Thought about this alot.....
Choosing between TH staying and the names I've mostly heard is like choosing death from paper cuts or belt sander.

The only option I would kick tires on is if Matt Campbell beats ou again to win the CCG (timing would be good and, well...the obvious)....I think you'd have to give him a hard look. The only problem with a guy like Matt...and a few others I might like....is I'm not sure I would want to do that to them...they seem like too good of guys.

I'll add, though, that while I believe he would be a coaching improvement (not sure about recruiting affect) I feel our program is in a state that only a Dabo/Saban/Meyer type could have a chance of possibly turning tide on a major scale.
Anyway...if we aren't standing pat with Herman...he's a name I would still at least look at more closely than most of the rest of the lot being tossed around. Again...if he can knock off ou in 2 weeks...just consider him dont jump.
Spolier: Did you know Matt Campbell has the exact same record as TH at this moment in time....in Iowa...with much lower rated recruits?
Let that sink in....

Five Reasons that Texas should replace Tom Herman with Matt Campbell

Matt Campbell got beat by LaLa this year at home by 17. Iowa State gets kids that don’t quit.

In the context of losing out on Urban Meyer I vote to retain him as we've done with Shaka and hope he grows with the job. It's too much money to buy him out.

Now, I TOTALLY get that recruiting is a mess. And I know that the Orangeblood alumni is insulted by the Eye's debacle. I don't have an emotional feeling about that, but I do get the angst of long-time alumni who love that song. It's not racist at all; it's Texas.

If the Eyes of Texas was once racist, then liken it to how Christmas Day was once a pagan celebration. The pagan celebration is a footnote in history solely known by those who wish to dig that far back. In the same vein, The Eyes are solely about Texas Longhorn pride. It has displaced it's historical problems. Those problems have been deleted and the current feeling surrounding the song is 100% about the University and the bond the everyone who took a class there feels.

Herman needs to get that.

If he can commit to personal growth as a coach, a leader of young men and a true representative of this University then maybe we can weather this storm.

Otherwise, I'd like to hear what Plan B is because I haven't heard anything that justifies a $24 million buy-out and ANOTHER 3-year honeymoon while we wait for the Plan B coach to recruit, "His players."

I agree with this approach. Another season of Herman may be mediocre and lose us some recruits. However PLEASE REMEMBER CHARLIE STRONG!!!! Things can be worse here and it wasn't very long ago that they were.

When Mack was put on the shelf we all thought Texas had a super secret plan to land someone amazing (some thought Saban :rolleyes1:). Turns out there was no real plan, our first several options turned us down, we were nationally embarrassed, and we ended up with Strong. Do you remember the Charlie Strong years. I do. I remember watching Arkansas whip the dog **** out of us in a bowl game. I don't seem to remember any other bowl games during the Charlie era.

If there is a great coach out there and we have agreed to terms with him ... buh bye to Herman. If not, wait for one.
