Actually, for the most part, our line blocked very well. We did not need an elusive QB Saturday. We needed someone to find open receviers and throw accurate passes to them. We have that, we score 50 even with the bad play-calling.
What makes Ehlinger so troubling is how he mostly was not pressured and still could not find or hit open receivers. Maryland stopped bothering to rush because they knew he could not hit his passes. Other opponents will focus on stopping the run on 1st and 2nd, then make Sam try to throw into heavy coverage on 3rd. It will generally work except maybe with Baylor, Kansas and Tulsa. I would say “Tech” but even their bad defense pulled it off last year.
What makes me think we are kind of hopeless is with Ehlinger starting, the pass is taken away and it is very easy to game-plan how to stop us. Go all in on the run and you stop an offense with Ehlinger at the helm.
