Favorite Fictional WW2 movie

Navarrone is one of my favorites also, the scene where the elevator goes up and down is one of the tensest in any movie ever.

so what do we consider WWII for this thread, does it have to be after Hitler invades poland or can it be before say while the Nazis are coming to power?

if it's the latter then Caberet has to go in there, that litte Nazi **** singing Tomorrow Belongs to Me has to be one of the creepiest things ever.

I am going to have to retract my previous post describing increduility at not identifiying "fictional" WW2 movies.

Asked one of my co-workers (super-smart guy) what were his 2 favorite fictional WW2 movies and his responses prove our education system is failing.

His first response was "that Audie Murphy movie, hell and back" my jaw hits the floor as I remind him thats a direct copy of Audie's autobiography, "Oh"

His next response, " A bridge too far" Dude, that's real, "Oh"

third response, "The Longest Day." WTF!!!!!!!

Man you understand I am asking you for WW2 movies that arent based on an event right??? "yeah" then how can you consider the best Biography movie based on D-Day to NOT be real???

His response- "Oh OK I get it, good movies, fake plot
then The Great Escape is my choice" - dude- real.

Memphis Belle- Oh come on, now you have to be Fking with me

Then he says the kicker. "Well I guess I cant pick the Dirty Dozen either" Me, Why not? Cause that one looked real.

I just turned around and let the topic go

With movies like Memphis Belle or The Great Escape it's a legitimate debate as to where they belong in the fiction vs nonfiction scale. How much liberty has to be taken with actual events before a movie changes from "True story that has some artistic license" to "Fictional story with many real-life elements thrown in"?

Wikipedia, for example, calls Memphis Belle "a fictionalization of [a] 1944 documentary". The single mission in the movie is actually the events of various missions thrown together, much like Das Boot has elements from several U-Boat patrols thrown together.

I kinda liked Memphis Belle, but I think it's my love affair with the B-17 that makes me like it. That one scene showing a B-17 taking off and its tail kicking out. That's the ****, man.

A lot of good movies here, including a couple I haven't seen, or heard of. Can't add much except the following...

Here's one that's not very well known, but is VERY good.:

A Walk in the Sun.
