Euro 2008

The Spaniards are putting on a demonstration of how to methodically beat a European Championship opponent into submission.

Sick gathering of talent they have.

I will be in Spain next week. It is gonna be fun celebrating with them....

They are the smoothest team I have seen in a while. Every pass is perfect. Every trap is smooth. As cliche as it may sound, they really look like a finely tuned machine. If any luck is on their side... it will be hard to stop these guys.

No it won't. I like Spain as much as the next guy, but history suggests they are nothing more than a 1st round tease. They certainly have the trojan appetite for victory, but do they have the spartan will to sacrifice for it?

Spain looked fantastic, but lets be honest about their competition.
Russia should not have made it in to this championship.
They are by far the worst team out there.

We will know more about the Spaniards when they play Sweden.

Longhorn TIm, I just had the same conversation with UTRyan earlier how swiss and the austrians are the worst two teams in the euro. The austrians are playing most of there youngsters in this cup.

yeah, i'm just glad the refs are being reasonable about it all. this game could be another holland/portugal from world cup 06 if the refs were quick to card

You probably haven't had the pleasure of seeing Uruguay play. They hold the record for fastest red card in a world cup: 20 seconds.

Uruguay is disgusting. Also, their officials are too. Remember in that horribly called game v. Italy where our player was sent off wrongly, Italy got away with just short of shanking our players. Italy finally got a guy put off so to make up for it, they toss another of our guys. Then the diving and ******** penalty kick as time was running out. Yeah, you remember that game, right?

Well, also remember that the ref was this shitball from Uruguay that was disallowed to officiate the prior World Cup because of scandals and bribes taken in his country.

In many ways Uruguay is the Italy of South America in how they play, though they don't win. They are also not super talented like Italy is. If only Italy did not resort to cheating and ******** ***** play they would be accomplish just as much if not more.

Ah, I feel better now. Time to go eat.

Well the game was getting a little physical and the fouls were pretty frequent, but there were no horror tackles. i think the refs had good control over the match, doling out yellow cards when necessary but letting a lot of stuff go (seemed to me there was a bit of diving going on, especially from the czechs.)

the amount of cards handed out in 2006 was a bit ridiculous, and holland/portugal was a prime example of it.

That was a crazy goal scored by Switzerland. For those not watching, it is pouring down rain. So much so there are puddles and areas of collection on the pitch. When they kick the ball in the air and it hits the ground, it skids to a stop. Short kicks on the ground are even slowed down, sometimes stopped only half way there.

So Switzerland is taking advantage of poor defense by Turkey and takes it down the right side. Guy gets past the keeper who falls going for the ball. He overruns the ball as it hit a puddle, comes back and scoots it along the groud through 3 defenders rushing the goal area.

It gets by them but stops about five feet in front of the Swiss player baring down on the ball. But he puts it in the net. These conditions are brutal.

The announcers are talking about how the match may get abandoned if the rain did not let up. It is flat out pouring.

The Turkey / Swiss game was just great. The middle part of the game resembled a high school rivalry game more than anything else. Very intense, both teams just really fighting it out. It slowed down at the end until the finish.

The Turkish goalie has had some of the best saves of the tournament so far. He saved a bouncing ball in the Portugal game off the post and made a couple nice ones in this game.

Hey man, stop that. You get me all excited and hoping that it will happen like it should. I will be taking advantage of having friends in all the major cities with couches to crash on. ****, some here in town should rent an RV and just roadie to as many matches as possible.

Irony at its finest today as I ate a Turkey/Swiss sandwich during the soccer match, completely unintended. The soccer match was better than my sandwich, for the record.

What taste won out of the two? Was it the meat or the cheese? Had you chosen right yet eaten the samich earlier you could have made lots of money. You may have a system for betting.

Thanks Pantone:

Just yesterday I was wondering what happened when teams were tied on everything. I'm sure it has happened before, hasn't it?

I'm not sure what I was doing during the last Euro BUT... I officially hate Greece now. Their style, while effective for the most part, sucks ***.

How lucky for them they they get to decide it on the field. I remember the 1990 world cup, where Ireland and Holland were tied in every category, and there position in the group was decided by coin flip. Ireland were 2nd and drew Romania, Holland got 3rd and drew ze germans.
