That has not been officially proven in all four cases. If any of them.
The family of a Victorville man found hanging said he died by suicide - CNN
4th Black person found dead by hanging in U.S., authorities suspect suicide
In san antonio a few months ago, a black student at Reagan High School went into the weight room by himself and hung himself. Police have already said they do not suspect foul play these new cases. Suicide is unfortunately common and affects all communities. All races suffer from mental health issues. Suicide has also been up since the quarantine.
Given (1) the police do not suspect foul play in any of these cases, (2) covid has caused a spike in suicides, (3) hanging is one of the most common forms of suicide, (4) a black man has not been lynched in 40 years in this county through hanging (i do not think anyone of any race has been lynched in 40 years though hanging), it is logical to assume all of these were suicides. It seems illogical to assume they were not suicides unless new evidence arises to the contrary.
So you learn your history from western movies. I get it now.
Westerns, being a bookworm and my degrees from the University of Texas and University of Texas School of Law. Let me tell you, that Western about the Corwin Amendment was pretty good! My hope was you had seen a western before and at least understood that hangings were used against all people and why the mainstream does not associate it specifically with african americans. I can send the numbers showing in less civilized times that people of all races were lynched in america, but I doubt you are interested.
You can pull out all the stats you want but the hangman's noose has a special and negative meaning to the black community.
Stats aka facts > emotions. Yes, to some black people that knot only represents a hangman's noose. However, to a fisherman, that knot represents something else entirely. To a boy scout, it is something else. To some muslims, women not wearing burkas are offensive. To some baptists, alcohol is offense. To some vegans, eating meat is offensive. Everyone is offended by something. People need to have enough reason and emotional fortitude to not get offended by things that are not intended to offend.... like a commonly used knot when it is not being used to intimidate.
I agree with you that it is bad and wrong if someone intentionally uses a noose to intimidate someone and those being threatened should be upset. I am saying though that since this knot and even nooses/hanging are not "lynching african american specific", people need to look at the context before getting upset and ask "is this a threat, or is this just here to pull the garage door down?"
