Dumb Political Correctness

Publicity stunt for Florida Memorial University? It's a "historical black university" that most of us had probably never heard of before that article.

Might as well just rename themselves "Clown College". That's what a stunt like this says to the world. I always thought honorary degrees were completely ridiculous anyway, but to award one in a case like this is beyond ridiculous.

Even if a publicity stunt, one would have to think that they could come up with a more deserving candidate.

You would think but if your goal is to reach African Americans to attend your college I'd wager more of them know Martin's name than virtually anyone else. I don't agree with it but rather see it as an obvious attempt for cheap marketing.

This school isn't trying to recruit you or I, or our kids for that matter, but rather those kids growing up in the shadow of the Black Lives Matter banners.

^ this. Personally, I do not care either way. A school can give out honorary degrees to whomever it pleases. If the Martin family is okay with it and the alumni are okay with it, it does not hurt anything. If the Martin family or alumni object, the school should reconsider. Still a cheap ploy for publicity by the school.

As for the Martin-Zimmerman altercation, at the time I thought both parties were partially at fault and both made bad decisions. Subsequent to the event, Zimmerman has demonstrated aggressive, violent behavior and tried to sell the murder weapon online calling it an "American Icon." I now side with the Martin family that Zimmerman was looking for trouble, started and was at fault for the altercation. I no longer believe Zimmerman was defending himself and, like OJ, should not have been acquitted.

^ I do not understand black students, like those in the article, that seem to want segregation. At Missouri, black student groups wanted black only dorms. We live in strange times.

Strange but not unprecedented. I've heard many black nationalists speak well of segregation and argue that Brown v. Board of Education had significant downsides.

True. I guess these students are modern Malcolm X followers.

Graduation seems like a weird thing though to want to segregate. Most people I have known, of all backgrounds, prefer to be part of the big graduation with the big group. I feel like their families would probably mostly want to see them walk the big stage as well. How their families feel about this would be interesting to find out.

I can see how it happens. For the most part intellectuals preach black radicalism. MLK isn't the standard of greatness to them. Malcolm X, Huey Newton, etc. are. So if you preach that, then it won't take long before some black students buy into their ******** and ask for segregation - living quarters, "safe spaces," etc. If you're black and you decide you'd rather go to the real ceremony rather than stand in "black solidarity," you'll be ostracized as a traitor and an Uncle Tom. The peer pressure would be more extreme than anything most white people ever deal with.

This is can say I have witnessed first hand. A black student at UT while I was there was peer pressured into a racism claim over an incident that occurred that was in no way racist (and in fact the party who the claim was hurled at was doing quite the opposite). When the university investigated, the student admitted nothing racist occurred and the whole claim was instigated by the student's "friends". At a meeting with various student groups and black student groups UT set up to dispel rumors and make it clear no racial incident occurred, a vocal minority of the black student groups (4 or 5 people) were trying to push for ludicrious claims and positions. They did not seem to have the majority of support the black student groups and the UT Vice President there did a pretty good job in challenging and refuting them. That said, I can see how they can pressure other students and at Missouri, the extremists finally pushed through and won.

The student who was peer pressured knew the 4 or 5 were being ridiculous, but they were friends and student did not want them turning on the student. I will give the student that when push came to shove, the student admitted it was all bogus and helped dispel it instead of doubling down.

I am just fine with them having their own graduation and dorms and all that. If that makes them more comfortable, go for it. Just stop calling me racist when I look over my shoulder b/c a black guy with his pants down around his knees is following me down the sidewalk at night, for example.

A professor proposes the time-honored leftist final solution to everything they disagree with

So a professor had the audacity to question why transgenderism is a "thing" but "transracialism" is not. The response was predictable. Link.

If you read her article, she's not questioning the legitimacy of transgenderism. She's only questioning why the arguments in favor of it don't apply to transracialism. But of course the modern academic left can't just address her concerns on the merits, because they knew where they'll ultimately lead.

if anything "transracialism" likely has more merit because, as I am learning from the ancestry.com commercials, most of us are 60% something we didn't know about. I mean come on, that dude wore lederhosen for years and then he found out he should be wearing a kilt. Talk about being "trans".

I must say I truly preferred the old days when discussions about trannys only led to pro and con arguments on standard vs automatic.

Then this is for you. I bought a Mustang a few years ago and one of the reasons I picked the model I picked was it was the only one on the lot that was standard - they just don't make LX models with a shift anymore. So when I traded that in I got one with an automatic, but it had the feature (I forget what it's called - my Ford rep days are way behind me...) that lets you switch from auto to standard. I used it for about a week but it just wasn't the same. Something about working the clutch and the gears just makes it cooler. Just pushing a button to downshift just seems so... I dunno, sterile!

Your standard tranny is fun -- if you're on a winding back-country road. Unfortunately I spend 99.99% of my time stuck in city traffic, which is no fun with a standard. My last standard tranny was a 1989 Honda Prelude 5-speed. That was a fun car.

I digress. What I came here to post was that the two illegal immigrants who raped a 14 year old girl in a school bathroom in Rockville, Maryland got off scot free. The reasoning was that since the girl had sent one of the two sexy text messages, she was fair game.

Yeah, the first time I got a Mustang GT with a stick, I took it out onto 1431 out in the middle of the hills and got two speeding tickets in one weekend.

At least the Stanford rapist got some punishment.
