There's just so much hotter and greater out there.
Hotter in the sense that their body temperature is 98.6, as opposed to Farrah's?

This article and others like it is why I read The Atlantic despite it's leftism. The most interesting point is near the bottom of the article.
This article and others like it is why I read The Atlantic despite it's leftism. The most interesting point is near the bottom of the article. Democrats who go to college and follow the news are actually dumber about Republicans and their views than those who don't. And it isn't a lack knowledge. It is affirmatively believing something that is wrong. They know something that isn't so.
Man...you went right to the attacking college educated liberals as the most "interesting part of the article" as if on cue for the theme of the article.
It's the difference between getting an indoctrination and an education. It's interesting because the opposite should be occurring in colleges. We should be becoming more knowledgeable about various points of view and the people that hold them. Instead, we're becoming less, and as the article suggests, it's a much bigger problem with Democrats. Something's wrong when that's happening.

The real problem is that in the internet age we are all seeking confirmation bias. The less educated aren't as keen on the internet, or have as much time, which accounts for some of the difference.
The internet certainly drives confirmation bias and is a major part of our general polarization. I would definitely agree with that. However, I don't think the disparity of internet use between college educated people and non-college educated people is enough to account for such a big difference. Keep in mind that anybody with a smartphone and a data plan can be on the internet. You don't have to have much money or education to do it.
Either way, a college education should give people the discernment to look beyond superficial internet analysis of politics. It clearly does not.
Your underestimating the technical divide. I work for a luxury retail company with fulfillment centers in rural USA. A consistent conversation in the last 6 months have centered on how Technology illiterate the employees in those fullfillment centers are. My role is to modernize the employees systems and I'm consistently told these employees are carrying flip phones and applying through the local library.
My experience while vacationing to my hometown in NE reinforced this. My farmer uncle, who has a Computer Science degree still only has access to dialup internet access on his farm, one that sits less than a mile outside city limits in the largest town in the West half of the state.
In short, the technology divide between urban and rural communities is MASSIVE.
Again, what's a "hate crime"? He should be in jail for his actions. Neither he, nor anybody, should be jailed for what people imagine is in their heads or hearts.
And he should rot in jail for his actions, not for whatever you may think about his mental state. I am not for the thought police, not under any circumstance.
The problem with 'hate crime' enhancements is that it opens up the door to appeal or, worse, an inability to GET the conviction in the first place. Prosecute the offense that actually can be proven, specifically the assaultive act and, in this instance, the death of another person. This guy didn't leave anything up to the imagination. He left a trail for everyone to know what was in his head and heart.
They need to break up California into 2 or 3 separate states. Then the working class in Central and Eastern California would have a chance to make it work for them.
