Dual FSU/Louisville Michigan/Iowa thread

I think on fourth and seven you have to at least throw the ball somewhere.
Yes it has to come out. No matter what. If it gets picked, then it gets picked. It may not even be worse than just taking the sack. But if you eat it, then there is absolutely no chance. That play screams that this game was a fraud.

Guys wide open the QB misses. Run out of bounds before getting to the sticks, Just fall down because.... why not. That is one bad football team.

I listened to this 'game' on the radio as I was driving in from Kansas tonight!!! Amen, Louisville is pittyfull and qb is really bad, but they may play in the Orange BowL.....imagine that mess!!

Head-to-head has to matter and we beat the Tide on their home field... pretty much dominated them in the second half. Not only did we win the Big 12, we're the only team to beat the SEC champs, and the only team in playoff contention to be a P5 conference champion with a win over another P5 conference champion. Add these SOS rankings to the mix, and it has to be Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Bama. Not only does FSU look like ****, their SOS sits at #16.

Taking all the pro and con discussed of who would be the best team for us to root for. I am certainly glad I rooted strongly for Alabama.

Why? How did Alabama winning help us? If Georgia won, we would have still gotten in over Florida State. You need to catch up.
Not so sure about that. I think the committee would have preferred to drop FSU via SEC/Bama vs B12/Texas.

My point being several posters were just sure that our best chance was for Georgia to win. I was rooting for Alabama thinking in my mind it was the best senario. Georgia lost and we got in. I was right.

Texas would have been in Bama's position (us vs. FSU) had UGA won. I'm glad that it didn't even get to that. The ESPN predictor app was correct that it was better for us when Bama won.

Agreed. If Georgia had won, the committee would have seen a nice and clean slate of four undefeated Power 5 conference champs. Not much of an issue there. We would have an argument, but it wouldn't have been very strong.

The more I think about it, the more I agree that FSU got hosed. Yes, they looked like crap against Louisville, but they still are an undefeated Power 5 champion. They beat LSU and Florida, and their conference had an overall winning record against the SEC. I've often said that the SEC is the strongest conference in the country, but the margin isn't near as large as the SEC die-hards make it out to be. In this down year, the committee should have left the SEC out of the playoff completely. Alabama beat Georgia and won the conference, but it lost to Texas and should have lost to Auburn (who lost big to New Mexico State the week before).

It's not cut and dried, but the argument for Florida State is much stronger than the argument for Alabama.

If Bama beats Michigan, it would hurt the argument that you posted.

My wife is a FSU grad and a pretty passionate football fan. I did not care to tell her yesterday that the Noles did not get picked for the Big Dance. Well, she found out this morning and she was PISSED OFF!

She wanted an explanation of what happened. Why did 12-1 UT & 12-1 Bama get picked and 13-0 FSU did not, etc., etc.???

I explained several of the factors the committee considered to make selections and that it was inevititable that some team(s) would not get picked and their program and fans would disagree with / take offense to. Then I ducked and missed the frying pan thrown at my head!

However, I was just barely wise enough to not to bring up FSU has a backup QB, their offense sucks now and they barely beat Louisville, thus the committee probably took that into consideration.

Fortunately she had a Dr. appt. to leave for, so she had to stew about it out of the house....

Were I an FSU grad (I would have made a serious career mistake) I might have my panties in a twist. But, step back from it a second. FSU would get absolutely killed by any of the others. Vegas would have to give 40 to get a reasonable two-sided betting line. Honestly, at Texas -30, I would bet the house. They are terrible. Does anybody really want to see their team manhandled and humbled? Think about wild injun fans.

Well, that was yesterday, Are you dead today?

I found myself rooting for Bama even though the prevailing wisdom seemed to be that we needed Georgia to win. Glad it worked out how it did.

FSU would lose to all four playoff teams and Georgia. I guess we will see them play Georgia so there is that.

Would be nice to see Gawja mudhole them to shut them and the FSU apologists up like Tech did to Cal and Rogers back after the 2004 season. I have no doubt they will.

FSU has a great defense, but yeah I wonder how many points they'd score. Didn't they have 65 total yards at halftime in the ACC title game?
