Does God have a future?..ABC nightline debate

Is that true because you say it's true, or for some other reason?

So tell me, christian folks, how does one insure that he/she will have a place in the christian heaven?

Do you ask because you really want to know the answer, or for some other reason?

Have you thought about a law enforcement career, coel? Or do you just like to be in charge?

How about you answer my question if you know the answer?

Does my question make you nervous?

If my question does make you nervous, or if you just don't want to answer the question, perhaps some other christian will.

XOVER,

I see that my method has touched a nerve. If so, then I apologize. I was merely repeating, somewhat ironically, the question that Dionysus asked me only recently. Perhaps your annoyance is better directed at him.

And now the question returns to you:

Do you ask because you really want to know the answer, or for some other reason?

Lol. Lots of words there, coel, for such a simple answer to such a simple question.

Faith.

And yet you add to that very simple, very elegant, very understandable word "faith" a dark foreboding, by adding below it a pejorative phrase ominously containing the word "prophecy." I therefore wonder if you say what you mean and mean what you say. Right now, however, I will take you at your word: Faith.

But fair is fair. On now to answer your question. No, I just wanted to know what the current answer to get into heaven is, circa 2010, according some Christian on this thread.

When I speak with religious folks, especially Christians, I like to see what they are talking about with respect to what I consider to be the ultimate issue, which, for the Protestant strand of the Christian religion, would be heaven (to my way of thinking). I get different responses from different Christians, and I must say, "faith", as a complete response, has never popped up before in my experience.

I like your flavor of Christianity, plus now I can better understand where you are coming from in this discussion. For example, your answer confirms to me that you fit more on the protestant side of Christianity than on the Catholic side, more on the "hereafter" side than on the "here and now" side. Yet, your answer shows you to be incredibly liberal, at least in theological terms. Good for you!

Heaven takes "faith". Thank you.

I have faith in the love of my daughter, among many other things. Happily, your answer is not confining, such as "faith based on the existence of things unprovable," (just as an example), and that's good. Since I do have faith, my ticket is punched for coel's version of the Christian heaven. That makes me feel good (even warm and fuzzy) because I have never particularly considered myself a "Christian", so I am exceedingly pleased that there are sects of Christianity that are so inclusive.

Still, how do I know that you are correct that "faith" is the way one gets to go to heaven, without simply taking your word for it? Just have faith? Faith in Coelacanth?

I ask because I know there are many Christians out there that would criticize you for giving such a simple pathway to heaven (although I certainly wouldn't).
