DKR South Endzone project information?

There are been posts mentioning the tent replacement, but I had not heard about permanent grandstands being included. If true that will be great.

Yeah, I also found it interesting that it says it is to be "substantially completed" by August 15th, 2009. I would have thought that any permanent seating would have to wait longer than that to be built, especially after just completing the NEZ.

It sounds like the preliminary plan to add the lower deck only. Think of what we had in the north endzone last season and put it in the south. Maybe that's what this means.

I don't see how it would be possible to build any type of structure which will be connected to sections 1 and 32. It took a lot of work on the North end tearing down portions of the far ends to prepare it for the new endzone. They would have to do the same on the south end. Maybe they will build a structure that stands alone in the middle but in place to be connecting in the next off season???

tearing down parts of those end sections on the north end was done well in advance of any construction on the north end. I don't see with them messing with sections 1 or 32 before this season is what I was saying.

I'm having a hard time visualizing what they're trying to do. Is this phase 1 of the total S endzone "master plan" or is it just a semi-permanent bridge to that project?

From that link, the Substantial Completion date is 8/15/2009.

That would give them the same amount of time they had last time.

But can they get all their ducks in a row by December of this year to get started?

25 million?

Sounds like a half *** job, or like a 1/10 *** job. IMO nothing should be done if it can't resemble the north endzone.

IF its only stands and plumbing $25 milion is plenty, vs the gyms, classrooms, luxury suites, stadium club and upper deck in the north endzone.

It would be great if they could put in a permanent structure that would fit into the overall design, then build around it when they decide to build the whole structure in the future.

I was thinking about it and even using the most optimistic numbers cant get us a lower deck for 25 million. But then I thought, most of the demolition is already done, they probably wont be digging down 3 or 4 stories, they would only have to build up to the chair back seats and it might come in just below G-Tron. They could finish the suites, club seats, and upper deck later. Then this line made me think otherwise.

"Improved security and site access features around Gate 32 and the east plaza at the Moncrief-Neuhaus Athletic Center; and necessary HVAC modifications at the east stadium suites."

If they were going to finish the bowl there wouldn't be anything left of 32 to improve.

Or maybe I'm thinking about it all wrong.

it's just a more permanent structure to replace the temporary stands and provide concessions and restrooms.

that's why it's referred to as a "grandstand" type structure.

Again, it'll be the size of the temporary stands.
Nothing more, nothing less.

I would be willing to bet that whatever permanent structure that is put in place will be designed to work with any future expansion plans to complete the south bowl.

This is good news.

$25M seems low to me. Not just for seats, but for all the lemme lemme upgrades to the Moncrief-Neuhaus Athletic Center.

i can't find the source right now, but i do remember that dodds said the most immediate changes to the south endzone would be to replace the temporary (rented) bleachers with a more permanent bleacher installation, including concession stands and restrooms. these would be 'temporary' in that they would be torn out when the south end zone 'full bowl' project is approved.
the 'permanent/temporary' construction is what this $25M will accomplish.
personally, i do not expect the permanent bowl to be constructed until Godzillatron is close to replacement (by super GZ, in super hd).

I immediately thought of OU's stand as well. That could easily be built to be permanent an be part of the future expansion. Simply build it in the right place and with a permanent tunnel. I'd rather see a something like the north endzone was this year though. Even if that makes it only half as tall as it would be. Would look nice and be cheap to do.

Don't get too excited. A good and undefined portion of that 25 mil is going to some other pretty expensive things besides seats and 25 just doesn't go as far as it used to.

I have a hard time with anyone spending 25 million on something that will eventually be torn down. As such, I assume much of that 25 million will go to something other than the seating.

Perhaps a retractable roof.
